I edited my contribution. Since I use the year of production (as indicated on the film itself as copyright year) in my own movie archives I missed Les Enfants Terribles by Melville, which I list as a film from '1949'. Orphée by Cocteau is also from 1949 but I remembered the differences between copyright date and release year. Also a lot of titles released in 1951 (by imdb standards) that have production year 1950: so Journal d'un Curé de Campagne (Bresson) and Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (Lewin) were in my 1950-list at first. But I understand the choice for following imdb to standardize things.

I don't think Angel Glez's lists should count for these year exercises. He is not posting his true lists.

I cannot be the only vote for Baron of Arizona...did I get the year wrong?

Also ah okay re: Rabbit's Moon, but since we're going by IMDb year I can't vote for it as 71 or 79 so better get it in now.

PREDICTIONS ? I'm guessing the Wilder with EVE a close second - RASHOMON, The Bunuei, and my fave should make top ten - possibly the Huston & Mann. The zinnemann deserves to.

OBSCURITIES?

THE SECOND FACE
Obscure B melo about disfigured woman getting plastic surgery ..... but at a cost. Minor Noir goddess Ella Raines gets good part.

Image
https://ok.ru/video/346109708963

Not too many other genuinely obscure movies on my ballot but a few that imho seem neglected or unadmired by previous polls

FATHER OF THE BRIDE - peerless comedy with Tracy's finest hour, matched all the way by Joan Bennett and was their ever a more luscious bride than 18 year old Liz?
Image

THE GLASS MENAGERIE I always loved this first adaptation of Tennessee Williams first success - even the happy ending - although some of the poetry lost
https://ok.ru/video/944923740674

STAGE FRIGHT for me 5# in the canon - lovely return to cosy England and humour, and RADA and garden fetes and a vast gallery of eccentrics.
Image

NO MAN OF HER OWN strong Stanwyck melo involving assumed identities, blackmail and flashbacks galore.
Image

GONE TO EARTH never a P&P Crowdpleaser but has been (rightly) desribed as one of the most gorgeous depictions of English countryside on film - and Jennifer Jones fans will enjoy her in full "primitive" mode - in fact a Shrophire Pearl Chavez!!!! On youtube but actually worth shelling out for official copy and accessing a large screen.

Seem like there are two versions released in the 70s after filming in 1950. Since this is a short, I don't know if there are even official theatrical release dates. I take it that IMDb combined all the versions into one listing of the filming year, i.e. 1950. Fascinating chronology. So following the IMDb year, this would be eligible.

Not gonna get to any more alas - can't watch everything. I particularly regret not having gotten to several Japanese films from Kurosawa, Ozu, Mizoguchi and Naruse (4 from him alone). Also would have liked to re-watch Orphée and La ronde. Oh well. Still one of the years I've seen the most from in this period, with plenty of great stuff even though I'm leaving out a few obvious choices because they don't hit me as strongly as most, or because it's too long since I've seen them, or - they're going to win anyway.

1. Rabbit of Seville (Chuck Jones)
2. Flicka och hyacinter (Hasse Ekman)
3. Devil's Doorway (Anthony Mann)
4. The Sound of Fury / Try and Get Me! (Cy Endfield)

5. Aventurera (Alberto Gout)
6. Gone to Earth (Powell & Pressburger)
7. Southside 1-1000 (Boris Ingster)
8. Black Hand (Richard Thorpe)
9. Armored Car Robbery (Richard Fleischer)
10. A Fractured Leghorn (Robert McKimson)
11. Gerald McBoing-Boing (Robert Cannon/John Hubley)
12. Treasure Island (Byron Haskin)
13. No Man of Her Own (Mitchell Leisen)
14. Spiegel van Holland (Bert Haanstra)
15. Francesco, giullare di Dio (Roberto Rossellini)
16. Woman in Hiding (Michael Gordon)
17. Begone Dull Care (Evelyn Lambart/Norman McLaren)
18. The Breaking Point (Michael Curtiz)
19. Stars in My Crown (Jacques Tourneur)
20. Two's a Crowd (Chuck Jones)
