I thought about making up an "honorable mention" list for films by male directors with female-sounding names, but I didn't have enough good examples (among films I have seen that I would have listed if they had been directed by actual women). Jan de Bont would certainly have made the list for Speed, as would Laurie Hill for the short Photograph of Jesus, although unfortunately the latter has only 18 checks.

Here is my list: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls042767561/ it's ranked

I put the codirected movies in the end, except The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum, cause it feels like a von Trotta film and besides i like it too much, Women of Ryazan cause i doubt it will be in too many lists and Women on Uniform, cause for what i've read Sagan was in control

It seems a film by Rohmer slipped in there. Spotted one by Neil Jordan too.

Thanks, I fixed it. It must have been some kind of missclick. I rated "The Brave One" with 3/10 :D

Despite obviously still being an open-ended lifelong project, I've added Leslie Thornton's Peggy and Fred in Hell to IMDb such that it can be included as an entry here, for what it's worth.

Been wanting to see this for ages and the lack of an imdb entry is what stopped me. Guess I was just too lazy to make the imdb page. I'll do my best to see it before the lists are due.

Making my list now.

Decided not to include a few cases where there was a male director as well. Pretty much stuck with either couples or where the man was the co-director. Hope I didn't get any of them wrong.

I have added the imdb keyword "Title directed by woman" to my list. 1/3 of my list was missing it.

If you are sure that the director is female, please do the same and this list will be so much easier to figure out in the future

Added Elisabeth Vogler's Paris Is Us to my list. It's on Netflix (global), recommended! There's a bit of Lynch, a bit of Malick, some Drake Doremus, but mostly a lot of herself (and Paris).

My list: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls042276862/ ranked to #35. Still on two-minds about set director couples, for now I decided to keep them out.

Damn, I've seen A LOT of great films with women directors. Just by looking through everybody's else and remembering one all of two other films, I have managed to come up with over 150 films that I am happy to place my support behind. And I might think of more to add to the list before the deadline (I haven't interrogated that Letterboxd index yet). Anyway, with some many great female-directed films out there, I'm really hoping that we'll get at least a top 250 out of this poll - maybe more if enough films receive strong enough mentions.

Might toy with the order a little bit later but this is good for now. B)

That link doesn't work - probably due to Traverse changing the title.

Here is his list: https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/trav ... versetown/ . Great choice for #1. ;)

Ah, another vote for The Fits! Easily my favourite film discovery in this year's Directed by Women Challenge. Unless I missed it, I think you and I are the only two to vote for it so far. And thanks for reminding me of Deliver Us from Evil. Need to add that to my list. Great documentary that should have won the Oscar that year.

^We had it in the ICMFF last year, and I definitely discussed it with a few other forum members...hopefully it will get some more votes. It's a really interesting film, especially stylistically and tonally. I'm excited to follow Holmer's career.

By the way, for those interested, I have gone back and edited my original list and added a few dozen more titles. I'm now at over 200 female directed films that I am happy to put my support behind, and I'll try to research some more before the poll closes.

Highest ranked addition: Old Enough, which I don't recall seeing on anybody else's list. Also added Permanent Record - another great Marisa Silver film, with career-best turn from Keanu Reeves.

I'm going to download the lists in the morning, but since I expect I'll have a number of screenshots to find and some other things to do, I'll allow an extra day for submissions, so the deadline will be sometime on the 25th.
