That actually sound fun. I would definitely participate!
So should this challenge be done a month before next year's poll or soon, while the idea is fresh?
I'd say as soon as the World Cup is over would be best. It'd be cool if it was something ongoing, so people could jump in and out as interested, but, the downside of that would be that people would wait to watch the films. There's things I would like to promote, and this seems like the perfect outlet, if we can get people interested.. I really liked the film exchange that was going on last spring, but, that didn't last near long enough, unfortunately.
Not to rain on anyone's parade but I don't see it being a success, everyone will just be wanting to promote their own films rather than watching others, and realistically how many films will you be willing to watch that don't have very much interest to you outside the scope of the challenge?

I don't want to rain on your parade either, but this simply sounds self-centered. I think I would have the energy and commitment to watch other people's favourites, if only because they can submit only one at a time. Definitely going to consider starting this challenge when we're done with the showdown of this year's 500<400.

1170, 750, 368, 93. Phew, Wrony is really shooting up the list. I saw it just days ago and wasn't thrilled with it. Not enough story. I did like Woman of the Lake a lot, though.

I also like Beavis's suggestion of placing some parameters around the films that can be submitted: Obviously, they must have < 400 checks, but perhaps they shouldn't be on any lists, either, or at most one. And, of course, they shouldn't already be on the 500<400 list.

What do you think?

If this is a 2016 film, shouldn't it have been excluded from last year's list? Or was it listed as 2015 before, and then changed?
Regardless, surprised that a Dardenne film has less that 400 checks after two years.

I was wondering the same when I saw that. It's because it was on a list I added after I filtered out the ineligible films and didn't filter it out the second time.

I mean, I wish we had this idea a few weeks ago during the nomination phases for the official challenges. Something like "everyone on the forum can nominate 5 films (<400 checks, not on the current list, blah blah blah) and those become the only eligible films for the challenge". Would be super fun and would get a lot of participation.

Two of them are probably Alexandre and I Was Nineteen. How many more besides those is the real question.

Dardennes will only be on the list this year.

Ship Of Theseus dvd has been sat on my bedside table for 6 months. A good reason to see it. Plus it breaks my embarassing duck on the Golden Lotus list, the only official list I haven't seen a film from.

So it looks like I helped The Crows make the top 100 well I guess thats a win. Now with this showing up and after watching Corn Island yesterday I am up to 5 checks for the list, 2 more than the old list. Can I sneak in one more check thanks to an unexpected new entry to double my original count, highly doubt it but we will see.

I don't want to rain on your parade either, but this simply sounds self-centered. I think I would have the energy and commitment to watch other people's favourites, if only because they can submit only one at a time. Definitely going to consider starting this challenge when we're done with the showdown of this year's 500<400.
I also like Beavis's suggestion of placing some parameters around the films that can be submitted: Obviously, they must have < 400 checks, but perhaps they shouldn't be on any lists, either, or at most one. And, of course, they shouldn't already be on the 500<400 list.

What do you think?
I mean, I wish we had this idea a few weeks ago during the nomination phases for the official challenges. Something like "everyone on the forum can nominate 5 films (<400 checks, not on the current list, blah blah blah) and those become the only eligible films for the challenge". Would be super fun and would get a lot of participation.
My idea to encourage participation instead of nominate & run: You get to choose a second nomination once you've watched 5 movies during the challenge. Maybe a third nomination for having a movie with at least 3 backers/thumps up/whatever like it was suggested before. Obviously that is easier to have when you have 2 movies nominated already. So both, a good movie choice and watching more movies yourself, is encouraged.

Ah yes, The Slender Thread. I'm trying that with Cabeza de Vaca, here. Third time I've mentioned it in this thread, so far. Have even thrown in a few teasers and compared it to Aguirre Wrath Of God, which I think it stands up to in its own way.
Let's see if it catches on....
For what it's worth, it's been a favorite of mine ever since I watched it some years back. More people here should definitely check it out.
If you guys enjoy any of the above, I'd also like to recommend Jericó (1991) @ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095394
Thanks, Monty, I added Jerico to my list.

A great idea, as long as they're capped somehow (so max 3 or 5 nominations). Someone who watched 40 movies from the list shouldn't be able to nominate 9 films, eclipsing the nominations of others.

I don't think Strawman has shown up yet.
I don’t think it’d show up, neither would my The Deer.
I’m waiting for West Beirut and Budd Yam though.

The Deer definitely is on my list. Was last year as well. I'd also like to see Davandeh make it some day, although I know it won't be.

Currently at 81 seen (and 39 voted for). I'll be happy to get to 90 on the new list (I'm at 119 on the old list).

66 seen so far, but I have 20 checks from last year's top 79 that's less than 400 checks so I am expecting to end at close to 90.
