I'm happy with BIFF and a Korean list without goddamn Ariang. I wouldn't have picked the Toronto list over another Cannes list, but it will be a very easy platinum whenever I feel like getting around to it, so I'm not mad.

Good job, mods !
The Award winner of the past 8 years has gone on to get a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars. Will 2021’s Nomadland be the 9th?
tehe

This post has been a long time in the making, huh?
Yes, it has. I made the final edits yesterday to include the Oscar Winners from last weekend, but I forgot I had written that part in the TIFF section before the nominations were announced. Oops.

Torgo wrote: May 2nd, 2021, 2:25 pm You remember the original Korean list by KOFA? This was an epic bummer. People loved how Korea developed as a film nation and then we got this Top 100 with only super obscure films where people hardly had more than a single check in advance and only the toughest of cinephiles went beyond 10 or 20.
Just gave it a look again. Of the 20ish titles which are unofficial now from this list, a few have only 0 to 10 checks, and others 10 to 30 .. it wasn't the most crowded lists of all, you can say.

Yeah, I noticed this too. Also, the summary of new additions to lists goes away the way back to Sundance - three months ago. Not quite recent news.

That was just a summary of all the list updates since the last blogpost, primarily awards since it was Award Season. It was never intended to be "recent news" :)

Do y'all think we should have a summary like this in every adoption blogpost, or just this one that takes place in Award Season? Or remove it completely?

I think it's very useful for the 98% of the ICM userbase who don't hang around in the forum all the time. Even I missed so many award updates or irregular refinings of the standard lists over the years ..
Keep it!

Thanks for the updates in the blog post, Max. I found it quite helpful. (Note: didn't know any other way to tag you publicly, so used a prior, somewhat unrelated post. In reply to viewtopic.php?p=709231#p709187 and viewtopic.php?p=709231#p709204 )

Yes, I'm absolutely supportive if it doesn't become an ungainly burden. The difficulty with so many lists is it's hard to keep up with minor updates, even for those of us who put forth the effort. Also, it's entirely possible someone will update a list and skip posting here, you know, because the phone rings or something. It's also possible that some of the new Mods won't be active on this forum. As an example, I'm guessing the TSPDT lists were mentioned in a TSPDT thread I probably don't read or missed. I'd no idea they'd been updated. It's also just possible I missed the notice somewhere else. So yes, absolutely good to have attention called to it. :)

For every adoption would be great. Emphasising the list has been handpicked by passionate cinephiles behind the scenes gives it a lot of value and helps the base of users to connect with the site I believe (as it looks otherwise very static).

AMP: 39/101 #82
BIFF Asia: 68/115 #290
TIFF: 27/43 #392

Not bad for a fresh start, the more newer titles on the Korean list help. The Asian list is actually rather bad for me, pointing exactly at my most-listed knowledge gaps and that certain couple of Iranian and Indian films .. could be an incentive for me to aim for a 100ish rank. Someday.
TIFF would be easy to improve but I really don't care.

That's exactly how I feel about that entire list. I rarely comment negatively on new lists (ex-mod, been there, done that, still have the scars), but this one just has zero appeal to me. I wish it were otherwise, but... Meh.

I did all right.
AMP: 10/101 #2908
BIFF: 44/115 #853
TIFF: 24/43 #724

I had 9 on the Film 2.0 list, but my rank was much better than the AMP one, probably because of how many more people have seen the newer titles on this list. Maybe I'll try to get under #2000 by the end of the year. For the other two, I'll just try to keep under #1000. I'm sure my rank on all three will worsen as people start to check out the new lists and watch films because of them. Happens to me after every adoption (though more so when a bunch of films are newly official, like with the Pinoy list last year).

But at the bottom, the immanent philosopher sees in the entire universe only the deepest longing for absolute annihilation, and it is as if he clearly hears the call that permeates all spheres of heaven: Redemption! Redemption! Death to our life! and the comforting answer: you will all find annihilation and be redeemed!

the BIFF lists has a few that have been on my watch-list for a while, having this official now might bump those up a bit. Also working on Korea this year, so the AMP list is a nice new impulse ánd I got quite a few I want to see from TIFF too... nice bunch of list

Knowing the new lists in advance i haven't lost any Award on the adoption process.

Was like 2 and 3 films away from 100% on BiFF & TiFF

Asian cinema was one of my weakness : so i was happy to see that i improved ;)

AMP is another story ... haven't lost the bronze i gathered from the 2.0 List ... that's enought for now.

AMP 35/101 #133 - HUGE gap between 1961-89 with nothing seen, my focus has mostly been on 90s-00s films so far
BIFF 96/115 #43 - surprised I did so well here, I guess it's all the Iranian and Filipino films I've seen
TIFF 32/43 #122 - I've only looked at this list a couple of times before it became official, never thought about it, so it's cool that I'm almost at silver I guess

Yeah, apart from Ki-duk SK isn't really my cup of tea. A disappointing mix of Hollywood (long and overly slick), Bollywood (every genre in a single film) and Japan (edgier, but never quite edgy enough). I've also seen a couple before I started keep track of my votes (I guess I should watch JSA & My Sassy Girl again) so I could've been a little higher in these lists, but not much.

I launched a question for recommends not too long in a different group, but people got super defensive when I started talking about the things I didn't like about popular SK cinema, so not much came of that.

Well, it probably does deserve another list that is impossible to complete (better yet, where getting bronze would be equally impossible). The outrage alone would be reason enough to adopt it :P

To be fair, that list is not sourced (I think it came from a Wikipedia listing). There once was a smaller personal list - Sin in Soft Focus - that I think would be the better adoption, but I can't find it on iCM any more. I could re-create it if the mods finally got serious about adopting a list that covers the important period between the silent era and the beginning of Hollywood's Golden Age.

It will take infinitely less time to recreate the list that did exist when I started campaigning for its adoption, than it will for any combination of mods to agree on it, let alone any other topic. Now sit down son.
