Yes, but TV can be watched with no interaction. (most) Video games can't.

The distinction between film and TV seems very arbitrary to me. People are ok with TV movies on official lists, and series of movies on official lists. So why not TV series?

Most popular YouTube vids is certainly missing from ICM. Maybe mixed with some best of TikTok.

Also best weather forecasts. I remember that one summer day when they predicted warm weather. Epic.

Apparently because adherence to the source is the holy grail. But it's clearly seen as an exception.

If interaction is the key though, best Twitch stream is certainly lacking.

They are insanely popular, it's true. This video of two talking cats has 1.4 million (!) ratings; more than Gladiator has on IMDb, and it arguably has better dialogue.
Maybe switch both on our ICM lists? :$

There don't seem to be any good lists for those subjects (just a few top 5s and top 10s), but there are thousands of "best TV" lists. I think that's a sign that more people are interested in TV lists than cat lists or Nostalgia Critic lists.

And most of the cat videos aren't on IMDb anyway.

It's just one of several metrics. Actually the Amos Vogel list is quite popular among iCM users. Filmographies don't get adopted because it would be too arbitrary trying to decide which ones to adopt.

It's all part of the game - but think of it this way, when was the last time anyone went into an art museum (I'm thinking one of the really good ones) and in front of every painting said "Oh, I love this one! Magnificent brush work! Stellar composition!"

Even albums from artists we really like occasionally have songs we feel the need to skip, but you don't know until it's given a listen or even a few.

Occasionally disliking things is normal - it's habitually disliking most things that is weird to me, and something I never experienced among my real life film buff friends. Of course that was mostly back in the era where you had to pay to see things and maybe make a trip. I guess when everything is free and easy having say a .250 batting average isn't such a big deal.

Ok so WHILE we are at it again, one curious, not trolled question:
Do we have official commercials on ICM? No, not 20-second tide pod clips and not Michael Bay films or every Hollywood movie to clearly show an Apple product ever - commercials. I recall that Makoto Shinkai did a few (quite nice, of course), and there was probably Martin Scorsese somewhere, and Guy Ritchie for BMW? Basically, those are short films, except they may have a more or less clear purpose and constrainted creativity .. or they don't!
re BMW: the The Hire clips even had Ang Lee, the mighty WKW and Iñárritu. Wow.

Thinking about it, the National Film Registry surely will have some. I remember this Let's All Go to the Lobby (mind you, I'm not American) and there's a high chance I saw it because of ICM. :D

Slightly Off Topic.

I think Scorsese's The Key to Reserva used to be official. It was on the IMDb top 50 shorts, if I remember correctly.

Never something where you have to sit through the same op/ed credits twice to get to the end of it (unless of course it's specifically done to mess with the audience's head).

If I understand correctly, The Human Condition trilogy are NOT movies, because you have to watch the opening credits 3 times?

And any TV show on Netflix is a movie, because Netflix has a button to skip the credits?

Exactly.

Also every movie on DVD is a game because it offers interactive ways to browse through the menus.

Speaking of games, there's actually an official check that allows you to choose your own route.

Motforestilling (1972)

It has 5 reels, and according to the director they can be watched in any order.

TV shows might get a lot more checks, but according to this poll at least, TV is clearly not a more popular option for an Official List, so I'm not sure why you would consider it a higher priority. Would be different if the poll results here showed a different trend.

Yeah, I don't get it: just because TV is more seen and some specific countries aren't, does that mean we should be giving priorities to, oh, I don't know, IMDb's Lowest Films or something similar, which also gains viewing popularity? :P

I'd rather see yet another animated shorts lists or additional country lists for Japan, Brazil, Philippines, Greece, Balkan countries in general.
