Enjoying my place in the top 700 while I can, seems like I'll lose a few places next update.

Been here @icm for a few month now... Took time to adapt my differ ents exel list to the way it's working here :) still got huge packs of dvds I hadn't time to check... And then films I saw on theaters I wouldn't have checked yet....
But I took serious time theses last three weeks to see the most valuable official checks mostly to try to join the 1000 club ;)
I'll soon join the rank 200 here I guess... Just a few more polish and Korean movies;)

Nice! It takes a while to catch up to checking everything you've seen, especially if you're doing it manually. But it's fun to look at this stuff!

I don't think most people use that kind of engine fuel, whatever it is. At least I hope not.

More cheap Canadian airfares; very appropriate with this month's Official Challenge.

I wonder that myself. There was stretch of around 10-15 ranks in which I couldn't find any more of those images and I just assumed that I had finally hit rock bottom international flight price. Evidently not the case.

Different airflight service provider from the looks of things, but airfares still as cheap as chips in the True North:

It seems I'm gonna start 2019 with my new <600 spot after all. Started 2018 roughly at #1000, so I'm quite pleased with my progress.

I think I started the year in 343, I can't really remember and since it was my objective to watch less movies I was expecting to drop places. Next year, I expect to drop even more since my focus is on rewatching.

Started the year at 93, finishing at

where I've been since late November. I was on the money with my prediction; had I focused more on shorts and going through easy lists I might've hit the top 75, but the challenge focuses - particularly the low rating and 0 checks - kept the pace down a bit.

2018 was the roller coaster I was expecting it to be, with the largest range of rankings I've seen since 2014. It's also the first time since 2015 I've dropped to 23rd place, a result of the noir list adjustments made earlier in the year. It's no surprise that Xianjiro flew past me in July and never looked back. Jeroen0 going dark and Burneyfan returning (welcome back!) were bigger surprises, but they canceled each other out in terms of most people's rankings, including my own. JamesCameronScholar's meteoric rise in June was also a surprise, as was 3rd's sudden departure in December. Despite all these events, I wound up advancing one place in the rankings, though, so I can't complain.

Here's a year-by-year breakdown for me:

Year # checks gained # official checks gained Pos. at start of year Pos. at end of year Max. Pos. Min. Pos. Range Avg. Rank (polled 1/week)
2012~700~600704970482255.5
20131198968493050282240.7
201493476530223122925.3
201574289222212421323.0
201662344221212219320.9
201782258521202220220.9
201877855020192318520.0

(2015 looks a little funny in that my number of official checks exceeds my total number of checks, but this is because of the adoption of the TSZDT list, which netted me 228 new official checks)

It looks like 2019 will be a little calmer than 2018, with just a couple of people making a push for the front page and not a lot of activity at the bottom of the front page currently. There are a few users ahead of me that have slowed their checking or become inactive, so I predict I'll advance one or two spots by the end of 2019.

2017 updateShow
2017 didn't quite go as I expected - the updates to the TSPDT and Brief Encounters lists along with the newly adopted lists didn't work in my favour, and Gremlo shot up about 80 checks relative to me in February. As a result, we spent the rest of the year neck and neck (in May he passed me for a day or two, but otherwise I maintained my lead). Julliette appeared from out of nowhere, passing me in March and offsetting the rank bump I had in February when Robot2xl went dark. And, in the last couple of weeks, I passed Laydback, kicking me up from 21 to 20 in the rankings.

Here's a year-by-year breakdown for me:

Year # checks gained # official checks gained Pos. at start of year Pos. at end of year Max. Pos. Min. Pos. Range Avg. Rank (polled 1/week)
2012~700~600704970482255.5
20131198968493050282240.7
201493476530223122925.3
201574289222212421323.0
201662344221212219320.9
201782258521202220220.9

(2015 looks a little funny in that my number of official checks exceeds my total number of checks, but this is because of the adoption of the TSZDT list, which netted me 228 new official checks)

Compared to 2016 and 2017, 2018 will be a veritable roller coaster for me. With the More Noirs update I'll fall two or three spots in the rankings, back behind Laydback, Gremlo and possibly Johnlocke (with Gremlo's advancement I'll be the 2nd ranked Canadian in the list for the foreseeable future). And I have a feeling xianjiro will leave me in the dirt this year at the rate he's checking (he's a machine!). But I'll likely regain two or three spots as well over the course of the year from some members that have slowed down of late, so I'll probably wind up next year right around the rank I start it with.
2016 updateShow
2016 was a pretty nasty year for me, with half my weekends taken up by at least one day in the lab on average, but still managed 442 new official checks (including 52 from the addition of new lists early in the year). That wasn't enough to advance in the rankings; I started the year tied at 21st with Swoon, and finish this year still in 21st. If you consider I was 95 checks from 20th place then and 119 now, I'm actually slipping a bit! Not much activity during the year, dropping as low as 20th place (or 19th briefly if you count the small window in which Allison went dark in July/August) and as high as 22nd.

Here's a year-by-year breakdown for me:

Year # checks gained Pos. at start of year Pos. at end of year Max. Pos. Min. Pos. Range
2012~6007049704822
20139684930502822
2014765302231229
2015892222124213
2016442212122193

I predict 2017 will be more of the same, with little chance of catching 1SO (this will be the first year we haven't traded positions at least once since 2013!) and not a lot of pressure of being caught, for now at least. It's forever 21 for me, I think.
