A rare Silver:

Image

When I first registered on iCM, I was less than 10 checks away from a Bronze on the list, so this was one of the very first Bronze awards that I actively worked towards. And it has taken me over three and a half years to upgrade it to Silver...

I know, frankly it's disturbing. I would have liked to watch such famous movies in 20 years.
But, completing the Ozu filmolist is paramount.

Monogatari wasnt that much better than the average Ozu, not 17 lists better for sure. Looks like it simply got spun by critics into the limelight mostly by happenstance.

New bronze award for BFI's Top 100 British Films. Last two checks were Great Expectations and My Left Foot. My 81st award.

I got a message that my "Tim Dirks" award has been downgraded from silver to bronze, and yet I've seen exactly 75% of the films (84/112). I don't obsess over ICM awards, but that's puzzling. And I saw "Cuties" just three days ago, which suggests my award actually should have gone UP from bronze to silver.

Yeah, I saw that. Weird. Four new films have been added, including Cuties, but I think that was months ago.

There has been a bug with some lists where you should watch 75% +1 to get bronze. It's been like that for as long as I'm on iCM. The weird thing is it goes back and forth sometimes.

I've heard people mentioning before they were upgraded after checking and downgraded the next day. You should have been upgraded before you got downgraded.

Here's something funny, from the Korean challenge from August 2012.
jeroeno wrote: August 1st, 2012, 6:13 pm 02. Maeumui gohyang (A Hometown in Heart) (1949) 8/10

Finally after almost three years on ICM, the first check on the 100 Korean Films list.
By no means the best list on ICM but for some reason this has been the one list that's been THE ICM list for me because I didn't see any movies on this list before I joined ICM. I joined private trackers, started collecting AND started joining challenges, all because of this one list. And now I finished it. :circle:

Woow, at 188/250 checks, I just gained ..
Your bronze iCheckMovies's Most Favorited award has been updated to silver

I never really worked on this list, especially not after 2016. It just now happened en passant with enough older titles climbing into the list. I'm really happy because I love the composition of the list, it brings together many of the strengths of a geeky community. Getting to rank #75 and silvering it without extra effort means that my earlier choices in film must have been lucky.

Now to gold! .. someday.

Updated
Box Office Mojo's All Time Adjusted Box Office (silver, was bronze)
That happens when you simply watch all those official checks on Netflix and Prime. :P
It was an utter dislike that got me over this threshold.

New award: Time Out's The 100 Best British Films--Bronze! Earned this by watching Blackmail (1929) last night. It was the sound version which was the one currently streaming on The Criterion Channel. Somewhat surprised that the silent and talkie versions don't have separate imdb entries.

I wouldn't use the word "proud" myself, but I am glad that I have resisted focusing much on these lists - like you I have a high overall rating but I'm only at 1368 (Adjusted) and 4946 (Worldwide). I do have some interest in seeing a fair number of the unseen films on the adjusted list - stuff like Airport and The Towering Inferno are somewhat historically important, though I doubt there's much there that I'll really love. And on the WW list even less that I suspect I'll enjoy. Life's too short to focus on this kind of stuff; I'm sure the fact that I don't have kids also impacts my lack of desire to see large chunks of those lists.

I've stopped watching box office films I come across unless they're things I'd watch regardless of the official check. It's simply not worth it. I sat through a few horrid "hits," and The Bodyguard broke me.

That's typically been the case for me, though being right around 500 on the All-Time WW list I've sometimes said fuck it and watched something stupid just to get back the bronze. And I do have a high tolerance for bad action films - much higher than for bad comedies or kid's movies, the other two genres that dominate the list. So once in a while I watch something like Bad Boys for Life like I did a couple of nights ago; in this case I guess it was to see if it could possibly be as bad as Michael Bay's original travesties and you know what? It was.

I'm extremely fond of Michael Bay, with Bad Boys II being my second favorite of his filmography, but I haven't seen Bad Boys for Life yet. I'm trying to finish my 2020 watchlist by this summer, so I'll get around to it.
