I just got the platinum on the top 100 british films, so that's cool. Naturally I also lost a bunch of IMDB Platinums due to their usual shenanigans.

 Well said.

It's possible I joined ICM to track my IMDb list completion :ermm: - a very important goal back in 2010. Sometimes, in between, it looked like a lost cause, due to .. the shenanigans, you know.
However, I've got a ton of <200 rankings there and didn't even have to endure much rubbish for that - the lists from 1920 to 1960 are mostly fool- and mafia-proof, I think most of the genre ones aren't bad.
A few more platinums are coming there sooner or later by watching anything than fanboy tripe: Limelight (1952), Kes (1969), Opening Night (1977), Alice in den Städten (1974), Where Is the Friend's House? (1987), Mother India (1957), Vampire Hunter D (2000) (well I like anime) - and of course still some very good films from the 1930s & 1920s for me there.

Unfortunately, Evangelion blocks 5 (!) platinums for me and I'm postponing the series for years now ..
Sport films are absolutely one of my least-enjoyed genres, maybe on par with the better musicals; I'm missing 7 (!) Indian sport films and only 1 Indian musical in the respective lists. That's unexpected.
Documentary is a mess, I doubt this will climb to silver for me.
Miniseries ... well .. depends on how many times I want to invest 10 hours into nature docs :whistling:

The Evangelion on the IMDB lists are actually a reboot movie series that redoes the original series. so you dont have to watch that to watch the new ones (1.0, 2.22, etc).

And yea, sounds like my progress is pretty similar to yours other than knocking out the popular ones you've put off with Sports, Mini-series and Documentaries having many more left to finish than anything else. I like watching documentaries but knowing that that U2 3D movie is unavailable has lessened my drive to finish that list.

That's way too pedestrian. Why would you watch a worse version? If only to quickly move on to something else. But this one's #1 on TDADT! #2 on Paste! #9 on sci-fi list I added! #20 on ICM TV!

Why hasnt U23D been blocked from the list yet??? Somebody should complain.

I just checked the 27 list film and got no awards...critical miss!

The new Eva movies I wouldn't say are worse versions. They are very different from the original series, especially by the third one. I think they are certainly worth watching personally.

Oh and hey, I finally got bronze on Tom Vick's Asian Cinema list! Which is quite timely since I actually just started reading it recently too.

:poshclap: Not bad! Another first page ranking for you.
With 260 of 847 films, I'm only at 30% compared to your 50% progress and that's still enough for a 120ish rank. Certainly not a Academy Award list.

Wow. I have a mere 268 films to go. I guess it's going to be a busy weekend.

Just glanced at the list's top users. It's strange how there are three ties on the first page, and the first tie is numbered wrong and the other two aren't (which is why Apu is #24 rather than #25).

got mah first reward for JLG
Time Out's 1000 Films to Change Your Life, bronze

It's imaginary but I should be 2K checks from getting bronze on the 100K checks project (at least by IMDb count, it's 1K less on ICM - not updated)

with 66K music videos to go though, it's not that hard to achieve even if I eventually watch only 30K :P

It's only partially Godard tho. Last checks are its new shorts, before that a Godard and Japanese FOTWs.

Got the gold on the IMDB Independent list after watching Rush yesterday. A few days ago I got the silver on the BFI British Film list and I've seen a few more since, up to 78.

Don't worry Armo, I might be a spineless check whore who will watch anything for checks and ONLY for checks, but NGE/EVA was way too important for me to just burn it up, so I've gone the right way (NGE 1-26, EoE, Eva 1.11-3.33).
Although flavo isn't wrong and his hint is appreciated. Anyone who will not get much out of this stuff can go the easy way, has his 3 checks in like 7 hours and will never bother again. .. oh, wait, he wouldn't get EoE; but chances are he wouldn't get EoE even if he did bother with the series tehe

Son of a bitch, I did it. I finished Shaun the Sheep. I didn't even realize I was doing so. I watched three episodes while killing time waiting for friends tonight, and the one where Bitzer has to wear a cone just happened to be the last one. Finally, during the final season, it started growing on me. Maybe because Amazon had them divided into the seven minute segments they were originally intended to be, which is a more palatable dose. I guess I'll watch the two movies. I made it this far.

I'll watch a short on the Pixar list tonight and get my bronze, award #51.

I spaced it out over a period of months. I was pretty tired of it for a while, but I powered through it and it wasn't a terrible experience. My memory sucks, but I think I started it on the day the Pixar list became official.

My kids love it so we've been watching an episode or two at a time over the last few months. I think it's a pretty cute show. Definitely not as good as Wallace & Gromit but certainly not some painful grind like other things I've watched for checks on here...

You know, if you just watch every movie ever made and continue to do so the day every new one comes out, you'll never lose awards.

I have given up trying to maintain Gold/Silver/Bronze on the IMDb lists a long time ago.

(ironically, in the time since, I have gained Bronze on everything bar Miniseries, 1910s and Sports - I think)

The IMDB Mini-series is the only one I don't have Bronze on and I'm just one away from it (I did have Bronze on it before but lost it again in the shuffle). I do have a couple from that list lined up maybe to watch for the DtC challenge so perhaps I'll get Bronze on it again.

If you're looking for shorter ones to make a dent in that Mini-series list, here are some under three hours:
Over the Garden Wall (2014)
The Power of Nightmares (2004)
Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (1998)
O Auto da Compadecida a.k.a. A Dog's Will (1999)
Priklyucheniya Sherloka Kholmsa i doktora Vatsona: Sobaka Baskerviley a.k.a. Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles (1981)
Battlestar Galactica (2003) *slightly over three hours but still much shorter than a lot of the list

Thanks for the recs, but this is probably the list that I am least interested in making a dent in. :D I mean, look at me disastrously trying to get a Silver on the Box Office lists this month (because a certain challenge happens to align well with that goal) rather than work on miniseries. (D:)

There aren't too many lists where I pay attention to my percentages and "Awards." But I just finally achieved a major, sought-after milestone: "Gold" on the They Shoot Pictures top 1000. Woooooooo. And "Gold" is as far as I'll go, because there are about 40 films on the list that really don't interest me.

I saw "Certified Copy" and "Mildred Pierce" within the past day to hit 90%, though both viewings were fairly spontaneous and unplanned.

These may be the only other lists where I'm avid enough to directly pursue an award?

Czech/Slovak: 7 away from Bronze
366 Weird: 8 away from Gold
Criterion Eclipse: 13 away from Bronze
Samurai Handbook: 24 away from Bronze
Top 300 Silent: 36 away from Silver
Silent But Not Forgotten: 51 away from Silver
500<400: 75 away from Bronze
Amos Vogel: 86 away from Gold
Criterion Collection: 146 away from Gold

 One of the few very important medals for sure.
I'll be the first to congratulate you on your 366 gold!

I recently (well, in November) got my Silver on the 1001BYD, one of the great milestones, and know that I am only lacking for the TSP silver what must be a couple or at the most a handful of checks. I always scroll/look over the count for that to maintain the surprise for the moment when it finally happens.

I'm a Cyborg But That's OK
Innocence
The Triplets of Belleville
Dellamorte Dellamore
Wool 100%
Maelstrom

Innocence
The Triplets of Belleville
Dellamorte Dellamore
Wool 100%
Maelstrom
Indecent Desires
Surprised you haven't seen Triplets. Very likable flick.

Watched Le Samourai and Contratiempo to snag the Platinum on the IMDb Mystery Top 50 over the weekend. 8th Platinum overall.

Believe it or not, the IMDb lists are relatively stable. But, then I have platinum in almost all of them (missing 1910's, Sports, which I will get this week, Docs, Mini-Series, Romance and 1980's because I'm saving the films I'm missing in those). Every now and then I'll have to watch something and you can't be allergic to Bollywood, because they have infiltrated pretty good.

But then, one of my goals is to finish https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/imdb ... nietzsche/

Right, I know. I've seen much more obscure films from that list, yet somehow have missed Triplets. I wasn't too interested in seeing it for awhile, but then I saw The Illusionist and....

Actually lost my years-old Platinum for the IMDb shorts list, due to this nonsense?

They are indeed probably relative stable - but in the way that the films that keep jumping in and out in the 45-50 section are the same few films. But they do keep jumping, and there were a few IMDb lists where I would constantly go from 37 to 38 films seen and back with each update, leading to constant award changes. I think I ended up just seeing more stuff to rectify the nuisance that caused.

Yep. And the combination of this constant (if minimal) change + the fact that a great many of the films are ones that look like shit, or at the very least look like flash-in-the-pans that are probably not that great, and that will never be significant moments in film history. Only the box office lists are less interesting, and I don't work on those either. I'd say the chance of me ever having a bronze on the mini-series list in particular - where I currently have 6 checks - is lower than my likelihood of getting an award on any other official list on the site. And I don't specifically avoid mini-series (watched one last week in fact). But the criteria that are important to the average IMDb voter I guess aren't mine often enough for me to spend so many hours on every war or sports or musical docu min-series that gets hot.

And there's also the fact that a lot of people submitting changes to IMDb are idiots, and their worthless changes don't get caught immediately, so you end up with films that clearly don't belong even by the extremely low standards of the lists. Johnny Belinda was on the film noir list for quite a while years ago, a film that as near as I can tell isn't mentioned as noir anywhere else. That kept me from having a platinum on the list for a while and similar things keep occurring - I lose an award for a while because somebody thinks Eraserhead is a romance or whatnot and it gets through. I just don't see wasting my time on caring about lists that change at the whims of both morons and the marketplace, even if the changes aren't that huge from day-to-day.
