This leaves a top 11:

Akira
Raise the Red Lantern
Great Expectations
The Adventures of Robin Hood
Heat
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
Shoah
The Big Heat
(tie) In a Lonely Place, Make Way for Tomorrow, A Quiet Man

I just can't imagine why Heat is on so many lists. Doesn't sound like anything I'd ever want to watch.
I saw Robin Hood a couple of weeks ago...I'm still not sure if I previously saw it as a kid. I've wondered off and on if any films with great colors were released prior to 1939, but now I know there was at least one?

The other 10 films remain. TCM never shows Colonel Blimp. You'd think they would.

There are several other 3-strip Technicolor films before 1939 - Snow White being the other most famous example - but I think Robin Hood probably is the most vibrant of the ones I've seen. Some of the 30s Disney shorts have pretty great color too.

Oh jeez, I forgot about Snow White. I guess I was thinking about live-action films, though.

The problem is that a lot of the color movies of the 20s and 30s are lost. And some were just handcolored (but extremely well handcolored).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_e ... ture_films

The Garden of Allah (1936) - Did at least get a honory technical achievement plaque (Oscar) for it's color cinematography. The first for a feature, some cartoon shorts got honored in 1932.

I saw David Lean's 'Great Expectations" via Amazon Prime yesterday...enjoyed it more than expected. Great, indeed.

GE was my #3 most-listed unseen film, so now my top 10 is....

Akira (19 lists)
Raise the Red Lantern (19 lists)
Heat (17 lists)
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (17 lists)
Shoah (17 lists)
The Big Heat (16 lists)
Make Way for Tomorrow (16 lists)
Farewell My Concubine (15 lists)
In a Lonely Place (15 lists)
The Quiet Man (15 lists)

It's pretty unlikely that I'll ever watch Akira, Shoah (just too long) or The Quiet Man.

Well, Greed is #24 on the Western list... :whistling:
Taste of Cherry is a double (actually won the Palm D'or and Iranian), and can almost be argued as a Western as well, although, maybe not quite.

I JUST watched it and would argue against that - while I see the point, the lack of "battling the elements" or any sort of geographical struggle would argue against it for me. It was just... dusty. tehe

The Shop on Main Street - 10 lists
Fists in the Pocket - 9 lists
The Best of Youth - 9 lists
Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion - 9 lists
Cyrano de Bergerac - 8 lists
The Draughtsman's Contract - 8 lists
Fröken Julie - 8 lists
The Garden of the Finzi-Continis - 8 lists
Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion - 8 lists
The Iron Horse - 8 lists

The Best of Youth is 6h long, so it's a low priority, Neon Genesis Evangelion is part of a series, and I'm not sure about Cyrano, it doesn't look like my cup of tea. The rest look promising.

1. 8 1/2 - 32 lists. I don't really know how because I keep telling myself to watch it but I always end up with something else.
2. Schindler's list - 31 lists. I remember watching parts very long ago, been meaning to watch since then and right now I have a little less of an urge. Still planning to check it around.
3. On the waterfront - 30 top lists. Is Elia Kazan my worst treated essential filmmaker ever? I say yes because I have seen absolutely nothing from him.
4. El laberinto del fauno - 29 top lists. Seen parts, I even had it voted long ago, but I think I never watched the whole story. I'm interested.
5. Andrey Rublev - 28 lists. Daily reminder that I'm only halfway through (and have been for 7 years) one of the easiest big filmographies to complete. Of course I want to watch this, but three hours is a quite respectable length.
-- Bonnie & Clyde - 28 lists. I loved the other couple Arthur Penns I've watched but I dunno about this one. It's a sort of essential viewing but beyond that I'm not that interested?
-- La grande illusion - 28 lists. Over 10 years of cinephilia and I watched my first feature length Renoir last year. So... yeah I have good scheduling.
8. The best years of our lives - 27 lists. Respectably long and belonging to one of my most neglected classic directors, for no actual reason except it happened like that.
9. It happened one night - 26 lists. This one may disappear soon from the list, on a 1934 film poll in another forum this is the perfect chance to get it.
-- Solyaris - 26 lists. So you know, about Tarkovsky...

1. Lovers on the Bridge - 10 lists
2. Time of the Gypsies - 10 lists
3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - 10 lists
4. The New World - 10 lists
5. The Passenger - 10 lists
6. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - 10 lists
7. Blade Runner 2049 - 9 lists
8. Vengeance is Mine - 9 lists
9. Grizzly Man - 9 lists
10. The Best of Youth - 9 lists

Only recently arrived at the point where I only have "10 or fewer lists" checks (at least until the next blockbuster hits all the IMDb lists). I have two of the titles on disc, the rest are available from Netflix, so nothing's stopping me from watching these.
Personal film goals for 2019.
