Torgo wrote: September 30th, 2020, 8:54 pm Hm .. really most of my highest-ranking lists (other than 12 plats, either easy or IMDb) are pretty boring. I'll just dump a screenshot of my Top 23 or so for future reference.
Almost all of them are either IMDb lists which would be very easy to complete if I wanted to and then a chunk of Asian lists - which I worked on and am more proud of.

Quite cool:
#72 @21/73: Lola Award - Best German Film -> I reckon many users have high ranks for the (non-US-American) films of their homeland :)
#93 @182/250: ICM Most Favorite -> Never actively worked on the list, so this is surprising. Many amazing films pop up there, often overlooked foreign gems, weird and striking stuff. Gladly would improve it!
#95 @42/93: Samurai List -> One of my most concentrated efforts in working on a list. Stopped short of bronze...
#117 @26/32: European Film Award -> Hm, all of these are quite known and in many official lists, guess it has something to do with German/EU films as such. Surprisingly high.
#159 @54/104: Paste's Top 100 Animes -> Didn't even exist before my hiatus, just a big fan of the genre and still have a lot left to watch :sweat: 20 more titles for a neat rank in the #50s wouldn't hurt at all (someday).
Even better IMDb ranks now after doing a little homework on other lists: 11 IMDb plats, 3x Top 100, another 15 (!) in the Top 200. Makes me sometimes think I'm the only one who does them. :lol: Of course I could just plat the majority of them in the course of a week without having to sit through garbage only, but .. nah.

Updates on cool lists:
#90 @62/104: Paste Anime -> A little higher
#75 @188/250: ICM Most Favorite -> Also even higher and must be because of the shuffling, not of additional watching

#155 @84/118: Tim Dirk's Controversial -> I am interested in that. 2 new checks during the last 5,5 years :$
#167 @227/366: 366 Weird -> Same here, 4 new checks in 4 years

I'm strong in both Animation lists (#118 & #185) and I like that. Would take about 6 different films to go into the 100 for both. Maybe if I like to randomly look at some numbers one day. (... /re-reads this posting /shrugs)

I only have a single platinum, Academy Award Best Picture Winners which I've seen all of. Outside of that though I'm pretty high on a lot of lists:

1. Academy Award Best Picture Nominees - 571/574 checks, #5
2. Academy Award - Best Cinematography 116/123 #62
3. Golden Globe Award - Best Motion Picture 145/153 #69
4. Paste's The 100 Best Romantic Comedies 83/100 #71 (surprised that this is enough for #71 and that I've seen 83 of them, lol. The missing pictures are all easy enough to see. I just don't particularly care enough to go out of my way to watch most of them)
5. National Board of Review Award - Best Film 79/90 #90
6. Maariv's Best Israeli Films of All Time 5/40 #115 (doesn't take much on this one apparently)
7. IMDB's Music Top 50 45/50 #137
8. BAFTA Award - Best Film 71/75 #145
9. AFI's 100 Years 100 Cheers 97/100 #147
10. BBC's 100 Greatest Films Directed by Women 69/101 #163

I will never, ever understand this idea that platinums "don't count" in gauging the lists where you rank highest. If you have more than 10 platinums, this question just isn't suited for you.

Of my 10 highest rankings, five are platinum and five are not. The platinums aren't very notable or difficult, and the non-platinums are Amos Vogel (#16), 366 Weird Movies (#18), Brief Encounters (#23), Anthology Film Archives (#27) and UNESCO (#39). Of those five, I only consciously work on Vogel and 366 Weird.

I would love for the Czech list to be in my top 10, but I need at least six more Czech films.

Maybe we don't elaborate on them because the opening post asked for highest ranks other than platinums .. :P

And for my case, it's that they every single of them is so mindnumbingly boring I don't feel like listing them. Other than 11 IMDb plats - which I could double in a week or so - there's: The Cartoon list (wow), ICM Most Checked, AFI 100 Movies, Fok, Moviesense + FilmTotaal.
I just checked: There are actually no high ranks for ICM Most Checked. If you're missing 1 or 2 films, you're ranked in the 600s and 800s, lol. I'm missing 1 check on AFI 100 Thrills and am close to a #500 ..

Also - and that theory makes no sense - it feels and looks more competitive seeing those ranks with two digits or 100-something. Knowing exactly how much you ought to see to climb a few spots .. where almost no one has gone before.

Right, and the question makes no sense.

If he had asked "Name the 10 lists where you're closest to a platinum award," THAT would have made sense.

But you don't need to be nearly close to a platinum award to have a very high ranking for a list :think:

Yeah, exactly. If you are 1 away from Platinum on Most Checked, you aren't going to have a very high rank for the list. :shrug: But it's interesting how often EbbyWebby has participated in a thread where the "question makes no sense" to him. :unsure: Maybe it's an interesting question though regardless of whether or not you understand it. :)

Haven't posted myself here in a while. Not much has changed in 9 months. Badmovies.org replaces 366 Weird.
