Thanks, Panunzio. I would like to have a list directly from the source instead of something copied from a flawed Letterboxd list. If we can get something more trustworthy, I can update the list.

So the New York Times 1,000 list seems to have been updated in October. I tracked down a copy of the filmography, and put it in a list here:

https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/the+ ... /panunzio/

There don't seem to be too many major changes, but there are now a number of films from the last 15 years included.
Are you sure that this is really intended to be the new edition of the previous NYT list? To me it looks like a different list altogether. It is taken from a different book with different editors, isn't it? For example, this includes silent films and the other list does not.

I have nothing against the switch (I haven't really looked into that), but this just seems more like a new list rather than an update of an existing one.

EDIT: I do dislike the current/old NYT list for excluding silents, so good riddance, though. :poshclap: And I guess that the new one is the current authoritative NYT list anyway, so maybe it can be considered an update (to the current NYT stance, that is), even though it looks like a different list.

There is still a lot of overlap between the two lists, especially in some of the lesser known and more esoteric choices. That to me would make it seem like they used the original list as a baseline, and updated it to include silents, recent features, more documentaries and experimental films, etc. I can't really see how this isn't an update of the previous NYT list.

In that sense it may be well considered an update, yes. And it is a much more comprehensive list.

Thanks, Panunzio. I would like to have a list directly from the source instead of something copied from a flawed Letterboxd list. If we can get something more trustworthy, I can update the list.
Sending it over to you.
The index lists "The Decalogue (2000)". I know of only one Decalogue, which is Dekalog (1989). Not sure if 2000 is a typo or if there is another reason for this year.

You have the wrong Handle with Care, panunzio. It shouldn't be the one by David Friedkin from 1958, but it's Citizens Band from 1977.

Láska (1973) should (very probably) be Szerelem (1971). The book lists "Love (1973)". Szerelem is already on the list.

It's not https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068889/ ? "Láska" means "Love" in Czech.

You're wrong. The years in the book correspond to the NY Times review date. Love 1973, in the book, is the Hungarian film.

Panunzio's list has Sayonara twice:

Only the 1957-version should be there.

The index lists "7 Up / 28 Up (1985)". The / sign indicates this listing is about those two titles and not 7 Up till 28 Up, which would make sense to include in a book. For now, I'll just include only these two titles. Would be nice if someone can check the book for this.

I don't have the new book but in the old book it is just those two. The review is of a double feature of just the two and makes no mention of those in between. I assume it's the same listing in the new book, if they had wanted the series as a whole they could have chosen that.

Edit: those are more changes than I expected.

There is a new entry called Black Rain(1989). But there were two famous Black Rain made in 1989. One by Ridley Scott, another by Shôhei Imamura. maybe Imamura's Black Rain is the right film, but I don't have the book. so I don't know.... I just have doubts.

Is the big box office list (tm) still going to be updated? If so, Ford v Ferrari, Knives Out and Star Wars should all be on the list now.

Yes it'll still be updated, it's just a busy time.

Was it on Panunzio's list in the first place? When I exported that list to check it with the index of the book, it wasn't there.

I just updated the BO-lists. I used the cutoffs as before.
However, BOM changed the pages again. Now both lists are 1000 titles long, so now there's also a top 1000 adjusted. I'll discuss this at the modsboard.

But we have to follow the source. Its BOMs choice and not ours. There is no way of knowing these numbers now. :$

So "All-Time Worldwide Box office" list growing from 811 to 1000 movies and "All Time Box Office" list expanding from 200 to 1000 movies? I foresee a lot new official checks...

For the adjusted list I think 1000 is great, but I'm concerned by how much older data mojo is missing. It doesn't matter for the top 100 since they got most of the big hitters, and was kind of forgivable in the top 200, but probably a third to half of films that should be on a top 1000 aren't there because of their very lacking pre70s data.
