I have pretty good stats on the list as well.

Seen: 247/250 (99%)
Highest unchecked: Doctor Sleep (#205)
Number of favorites: 45/247 (18%)
Highest favorite: 28 Days Later... (#3)
Number of dislikes: 4/247 (2%)
Highest dislike: Creep (#128)

Now if we can get rid of Creep, Suspiria, Final Destination 5 and Dead End we'll have a pretty great list :whistling:

And also, here's the full list of every film. The iCM list doesn't include the film 'Cuties' because it keeps giving me an error and according to IMDb it hasn't even been released so I guess whoever voted for it got an early screener or something.

iCM: https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/tszd ... htysparks/
IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls081170504/ (still in progress, taking ages)

Stats for the full list:
Seen: 954/1733 (55%)
Number of favorites: 94/954 (10%)
Number of dislikes: 32/954 (3%)

Maybe they meant Cooties? :)

Stats for the full list:
Seen: 1008/1733 (58%)
Number of favorites: 173/1008 (17%)
Number of dislikes: 76/1008 (8%)

Thanks for the full list by the way, great for tips and filler watches!

Highest unchecked: Resolution (#87)
Number of favorites: 24/213 (11.26 %)
Highest favorite: The Descent (#4)
Number of dislikes: 2/213 (0.01 %)
Highest dislike: 1408 (#178)

Regarding the total list :
Seen : 762/1733 (43.97 %)

My stats for the lists.

Top 250
Seen: 245/250 (98 %)
Number of favorites: 24/245 (9.80%)
Highest favorite: Let the Right One In (#1)
Number of dislikes: 2/245 (0.82%)
Highest dislike: Funny Games (2007) (#125)

Total list
Seen: 949/1733 (54.76 %)
Number of favorites: 41/949 (4.32 %)
Number of dislikes: 25/949 (2.63 %)

I really like the top 250 list, a good ordering and mix of films from different years and very few dislikes.

Let's see, I'm at 235/250 with the highest unseen being The Endless. I'm guessing I'll probably end up finishing this list come October though (a lot of modern horror hasn't really slotted well into many of the challenges this year, particularly with the decade challenges cropping up every other month).

I don't really keep track of favorites and dislikes, but in general I see very few weak links here.

The only ones I'd say I actively dislike are Ju-On (2002) and The Grudge (2004) for pretty much the same reasons. That franchise as a whole is just super cliche and lacking narrative cohesion. Basically it's a lame jump scare factory, and I don't dig it. There are several others I'd say are pretty mediocre like the F13 remake and Final Destination 5 but I didn't feel strongly enough about them for a true dislike.

The once incompleted (even though has 12 checks?) Grizzly II: The Concert, now called "Grizzly II: Revenge" starring youngsters Charlie Sheen, George Clooney and Laura Dern is finally getting released this fall. The first one was an independent hit, a Jaws on land with bears.

Man, there must be some hardcore Francophiles on MM with three modern French horror films in the top 20. And Martyrs at #2? Um.... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is no way Martyrs is the second greatest horror film ever made. :P

Well, that French wave was quite big, not to mention pretty fierce, but maybe more so in Europe than the US? Wouldn't have surprised me is Martyrs had even topped the list. It's one of the darkest and harshest horror films I've seen (#10 for me). It sure beats The Thing or any of its US contenders.

I'm more surprised Grave made it that high up. Less of a typical horror film compared to the others.

The main thing that strikes me about that list is how modern-centric it is - over 1/3 of the list is from 2010 or later, and there are as many films from 2019-20 as there are from before 1961. Pretty much as skewed as an IMDb list - what I'm reminded of most though is some lists I remember from issues of MOJO and EMPIRE back in the 90s of "greatest albums of all time" that were full of brand-new British discs from Oasis or Radiohead. I definitely enjoy seeing lists like these that promote the newest stuff - really just to see what the kids are infatuated with at the moment - but I find them hard to take seriously. At least this is just an online poll of I suppose anybody on that site, as opposed to something purporting to be scholarly or critiical.

Then again Sight and Sound picked Ladri di biciclette as their #1 film in 1952 when it was less than 5 years old.

It's just "an angle", just like the critic/cinephile lists are just "an angle". It's a community that's a bit more open, meaning not everyone there's a hardcore cinephile, but there's also many people who like film and like going to the movies, but don't necessarily need to know what horror in the 40s looked liked. Probably a more realistic intersection of horror fans too and as such a more useful list for (contemporary) genre fans. It's an angle very much absent on ICM, which is mostly full-on Hollywood or full-on cinephile.

Not that I think it's the best list ever. Too much recent Hollywood horror for my liking, with some bottom of the barrel stuff popping up (because some people had trouble compiling a minimum list I assume). But I'm glad most films on there at least (still) work as horror films and that it's a selection mostly based on taste, less so on canon-worth.

I mean: Unofficial films 73/300 (24%)

Yeah, it is a pretty modern rendition of horror (though still a great horror resource), but that's to be expected since the farther removed from the "good ol' days" we we get the more they seem to be forgotten or supplanted by more recent years. I've got 238 left and 50% are from 2005 forward.

273/300 (91%) for me, then again I've spent more than 15+ years at that forum, so I kinda know what people like/which films get pushed there.
It's a stark contrast with the TSZDT list, where I get a mere 55%.

I’ve seen 277. Most lists like this made with a small sample are very heavy on modern horror, and definitely some oddities that don’t really make sense on an ‘all time’ list. But I’m always happy to find lists that I’m not 100% on and I’d never heard of Yummy before so also nice to discover a new film.

I'm at 268/300 on it which is about what I'd expect. A bunch of the ones unchecked are ones I was actually playing to watch during this October horror challenge anyway, so I expect even if I didn't consult this list directly, by the end of next month, I'll be a lot closer to finishing it. There are at least a couple on newer ones there like Yummy and The Golden Glove that weren't on my radar I'll probably look into as well.

It was 7 years yesterday that I made this thread, wow. Just went a-looking for some new lists. Went through ones that people had posted here but I actually already had most of them. Found a few lists had updates and found some new lists. Added them to the OP. Will see how things go over the next few weeks and might be able to release the new edition on time.

Anyone have any 'gap areas' they'd like to see filled so I can try and find lists? I found a couple of Indonesian lists after they were mentioned on another thread.

I'm not sure about gap areas, but looking at the 1001-2000 list, One Cut of the Dead stands out to me as a film that I would've expected to see in the top 1000.

I just did a quick google and found this list: https://asianmoviepulse.com/2021/02/top ... 2011-2020/

One Cut of the Dead is #3. The list also includes some Indonesian horror.

I'm not sure if you use TV lists, but if you do, maybe you can add some anime TV horror lists.

There are already several documentaries on the list although they do not seem to always be marked as such on ICM.

e.g. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, or any of the Mondo films, and isn't the Nightmare on Elm Stree: Never Sleep Again film on there?

The documentaries I was thinking are more informative/educational like "Best Worst Movie", "In Search of Darkness", "Nightmares in Red, White and Blue", "Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation!" or "Room 237" for people to get acquainted to the horror genre and the zombies list itself but I've also noticed some rise in popularity in documentaries about Serial Killers.

That's the "problem" with documentaries, they're never marked as another genre.

Is a documentary about horror part of the horror genre though? I would somewhat understand (though not support) films like room 237 making the cut, but I feel dumping a bunch of serial killer/true crime docs in this horror list would be out of character.

I have no idea what's happened but there are about 100 extra lists in the folders :/ I found a couple of almost-duplicates even though last year they definitely weren't there and I haven't touched it since. Not sure if something went weird with my Google backup or something. Now I have to try to find them all so I can delete them. Bleh.

I suppose the problem could have been on my end, because I'm linked to the Google Drive as well, but I don't know what could have caused all the duplicates. I have a method for checking for list duplicates, which I ran just now and I didn't find any.
