I agree, the more I use the beta the more I find this to be my number one complaint. I look for the number of official lists a lot, it seems.

Here's a mockup how I think it should look:

I also don't care much for how the Owned and Watchlist functions are somewhat hidden, but, I'm alright with that, as they are lesser features, and I probably use them more than 99% of the users of the site.

Nevermind! I see what's going on there.

I haven't used iCM for ages really, but I don't use the beta very much for similar reasons. The things I use the most are difficult to see or find on the beta, so I just stick to the current iCM.

maybe that won't be a choice much longer - sounds like we're getting ready for full deployment

Me too.

And I noticed tonight that something seems screwy with the Genre fields. Previously, if I filtered my checks by genre:short, I had 3,150-something checked films. NOW, in the new format, this same filtering gives me almost exactly half as many. Something ain't right. Maybe it's that problem again with films that have more than one item in a field. (I recall something going wrong with films having two directors?)

Hmm, I don't know what that could be about. I looked through my own and while a lot of shorts don't show up it's because they're not tagged as shorts. I couldn't find any tagged as short that don't show up in the filter. I guess we'll have to wait until the redirect is lifted to see.

Huh...and now I've been switched back to the old format again. And I'm back to 3,155 Shorts checked.

What I like least about that design, is that the number of lists the movie is in is hard to see at a glance

This seems to be a common concern..

Thanks for your feedback.

The reordering of favorited, disliked, owned and watchlisted movies is something I totally forgot about. This will be added soon (it might be a separate page sort of like an edit mode, but I'm still thinking about this).

As for your other concerns, I do feel it's just a matter of getting used to the new design. But that doesn't mean I won't listen to you. Just use the new layout for a while and let me know what you think then.

On the progress page, when I choose lists --> category:Institute it's blank.

Brief thoughts:

I can't help but feel my eyes darting around on a 3.0 movie page to get the same information that can currently be taken in at a glance. It's the difference between gazing at a handful of rice in the palm of your hand and that same handful of rice scattered evenly across your living room floor. The font and color choices of 3.0 also make said information more difficult to read than on the current site. This is my biggest issue with 3.0 and one that I don't think can be massaged out because it's tied into an overarching design choice (making the comments less front-and-center prominent would help, though). Put simply, the site is prettier and more professional-looking in its new incarnation, but it doesn't always do its job (in this case, provide the user with information about a film) more effectively.

There are aspects of 3.0 that are a marked improvement (like the new progress page), and some that I'm warming to (list pages), but I would figure at least 60% of the time I've spent on ICM over the years has been on individual film pages, so having that experience change in such a drastic way will take some getting used to.

When I have a look at a friend's or even a stranger's 'checked movies' page I don't see when he/she actually checked them. I don't like this.

I can see the information just fine, but the sort is all messed up since I don't keep my browser maximized - so that's annoying, especially when I'm trying to update my spreadsheet - I like to have it and the browser window display side-by-side when I update my checklist stats page - that's going to be a nasty chore if I can't get the official lists to actually display in alpha-numeric order

The titles are blocked by the numbers for bronze etc. which are on top of the titles instead of being to the right of them as they were.

The merging of the two columns is has multiple breakpoints, rather than just one, so if your browser width is in that in between place it's a huge mess.

also, sure this has been mentioned elsewhere, but we don't have any number of films attached to the rankings data in the new format - so while we know joachimt is #1 on UNESCO, we don't know if he's seen all the films or just more than the person at #2

hopefully a fix is on the to do list

Thanks, Peaceful, that was helpful. I made it larger (Ctrl+) and eventually I got the titles but no awards data; then I made it smaller and got both.

The default size on an ipad in portrait is also a mess. Same as what 3eyes mentioned. All the titles are covered by the awards medals.

Landscape view is fine.

How do you edit a personal list in ICM 3.0? I wanted to add a few movies to one of my lists, but I couldn't find an edit list button.

Maybe he's in Rankings' compact view where it doesn't say.
In normal view, it says 532 checks in this list · 63% completed

So btw, in compact view, is it really more important to see personal stats like user's country and status, instead of list checks/percentage?

okay on iCM 2.x it displays "1 joachimt 532 checks in this list, 63% completed" though interestingly, when I copy and paste I get the following "1 joachimt 63 checks in this list 532 checks in this list, 63% completed 0 toplist checks" (from the sourcecode "<span class="progress" title="63%" style="width: 63%;">63</strong> checks in this list</span>" though don't see code for the "0 toplist checks" bit)

anyway, on iCM 3.x it displays "1 joachimt OSCAR NOMINEE · NETHERLANDS 9.7K 480 436 48" and I have to hover to see it's "9733 [total] checks", "480 favorites", "436 dislikes", and "48 lists". Nowhere does it indicate how many titles from the UNESCO list he's seen.

Sorry, in list rankings, I really don't care how many TOTAL favorites, etc a user has - this information is extraneous as it has nothing to do with the UNESCO list. What I want to know is how many titles from ONLY the UNESCO list have been seen - in other words (from v2.x) 532 checks/63% completed

BINGO! thanks for the assist - yes, that makes all the difference. I see the information I want displayed in the 'normal' view. However, I still would say "532 checks in this list · 63% completed" is more relevant for the compact view.

at least now I know a work around - Thanks Armoreska! :D

I have a question about the Progress page in the new design - what was wrong with the "background bars" (ie the background of the table indicated the percentage of a list watched)? Moving it to a "loading bar" under the title seems like an unnecessary waste of space (the list titles are small) and makes it much harder to compare list completion at a glance.

Inside the actual lists: Why is there a "Popular this week" on the right side? These are all films I have seen (and pretty much everybody else). How about putting something like: "This weeks Top 10 favorite/checked" or "Top 10 films that made the jump over 400 checks" for a greater variety of films. I don't think the mainstream moviewatchers come to icm more than a couple of times... ? After all, icm is quite elitist - compared to soccer.com or so... ;)

okay, I'm going to skip beta discussion here - posting comments in multiple places is annoying and insane but that also means I won't be able to see what issues people raise here (and if they apply to me too)

I've moved my copied my comments re compact view of rankings to the official forum
I note that there is a sort by "completion" but I can't make head or tail of it - before I bother Marijn, can anyone explain it to me? It's not by % completed or number watched or number left or anything else that I can think of.

It SHOULD be by %, but progress page is jumbled up, whether sorting by completion, name or rank.
