reddit sucks generally speaking, but there are a few great subreddits that collect weird, esoteric things neatly in one spot.

on the one hand, i may be talking about porn. on the other hand, i'm definitely talking about porn.

but i do sincerely like that places like r/rustyrails exist. sometimes a man just wants to gaze at a graffitied railroad tunnel that's become overgrown with weeds and shit.

I use a lot of reddit, but I also use RES To filter out like 90% of /r/all

I stick a lot to sports.

Yes, works for me. I tried logging in on a different browser. It gives an error the first time, but works on the second try.

yeah, no luck, I've now tried Chrome, Firefox, and even IE. I could log in to v2 on Chrome and IE, but my check isn't recorded. I can't get past the login screen on v3 in any browser no matter how many times I try.

I can login and access everything no problem, but cannot check or watchlist anything yet. I'll try again later.

Can log in, see movie pages and lists, but cannot check anything either.

Time to change the domain name to www.idontcheckmovies.com. :pinch:

I couldn't log on last night. It's obviously related to the database issues we've seen over the last day or so. I don't think it'll get much better until Marijn gets to Amsterdam (where the servers are located) to fix it, whatever the problem is.

It's possible that the temporary measures aren't sufficient to keep things going. I'm not clear on what the issue is, but it sounds like it might be failing hardware (hard drives?).

Marijn on wrote:We're back up, but slow. Our main database servers are down (hardware issues) and I've reconfigured an application server to act as database server. Unfortunately, this server has a lot less memory and no SSD disks, which makes the site slow. This is all I can do for now, I'll go to Amsterdam on Wednesday to fix it permanently.

Well, we can still see movies regardless of what icm is doing.

But right now: Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. Too bad it doesn't count for the japanese challenge.

ICM just froze my computer, such that I had no choice but to brutally unplug it. Afraid to go back for now.

The freezing was in an inactive browser tab, and I saw "ALERT" as the tab's name?

Hmm, you sure this was ICM? Can't imagine how this could happen in an inactive tab, that usually only happens when a script hijacks your browser which would be from whatever your active tab was either directly or from a pop-up.

Yes. No help there either. My name is at the top but I can't check films.

in addition to the above, I cannot log in to v3 on either Firefox or Chrome (no matter how many times I try).

I'm guessing these are going to continuous issues for the next few days so will probably make this my last post on the subject.

Do we know when the hardware will be able to be fixed so that normal services (esp. rankings) can be restored? I thought it was Wednesday, but haven't seen any updates anywhere...

Hardware on both database servers has been replaced. Servers are reinstalling OS now and after that I need to do some configuring. Probably ready for use by the end of this week.

Slowness I can deal with, but the Tim Dirk update cost me my bronze despite having already seen one of the two new additions. Pretty sure 55/110 equals 50%. Well I guess it will be fixed Monday.

In some cases you have to watch N/2+1 to get bronze. Don't know if that's the case here, but it might.

I'm certain this was just a code issue. In the progress tab when sorting by closest award it's not only not listed with the lists that need one check, it isn't even on my entire left side.

I've been waiting for a new bronze as well, but figured it's just one of things that isn't updating due to the server issues. No biggie. The thing I find odd though is some of the users near me in the rankings are incrementing daily -- ie: their numbers of official checks is increasing -- and while I've done a lot of official checks, my total remains unchanged. It's just seems odd since computers usually don't selectively do some users and ignore others. But again, as long as the checks are being recorded, it's (relatively) easy to wait for the repairs and rebuilds. So still, no biggie, right?
