Removed. Thanks.

And FYI for you (and everyone) to know how the removal process works: You don't need to link to the comments page specifically - that just creates more work for us because then we have to go back to the info page to get to the beta view, to get to the comments page in beta, to then remove or edit the comment. The further along the chain you link to, the easier it is for us to remove the link, but any of these three are better than linking to the comments in the current version.

Wow, I didn't realize you have to do all that for each dead link. I'll have to add a beta-ification routine to my script for the next batch.

No worries if you can't, but if you can figure out a way to betafy it, that would indeed make things simpler for us.

I assume you meant Sien's link instead of Gloede's, as there's only one comment? Unless someone already removed Gloede's without saying. Either way, both are removed.

Sorry for being so misleading - St. Gloede reviewed this film in the Japan challenge, totally not related to this thread or the ICM link. You're not obliged to know that, my mind was still over there. :D

The link from Sagittarius here ... well, it's a decade old and links to Rapidshare, do I need say more?

Two identical comments, both dead. And I still haven't seen the film myself, though maybe it's one of those films that people check despite a lack of subs.

Armo, say - your link on this film is dead but the comment still makes me kinda watch it. Are you able to dig up that version?

(Good example of a comment that's still of use even with a dead link)

If Ferg's comment was intended to give a working video link and not just information on the short, it's gone too:

For this short film, out of 5 comments, 3 contain exactly the same target URL (?!), 1 is a hint that a deleted comment isn't working anymore and only Dave's top comment is a helpful (=working) link. Maybe just remove the 4 others?
https://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/le+ ... e+letoile/

The same link (which collects a number of Lumiere shorts) is also posted for the following 3 shorts and it appears to be gone for me; am I just doing it wrong? Because the page sure still is there, albeit it tells me that the video is Non visionnable! :pinch: If the video is removed indeed, maybe all those comments can be removed, too ..

For this one, easily all comments except for monty's and swhaze's (the one with the working link) could be removed. Rohit's link appeared to be weird (and doesn't even load for me anymore), Thorkell's may look to a viewer like a YT link but is just a workaround for some issue on Rohit's link, anne_f_ and Public Enemy refer to Rohit's link again ..
I mean, we don't want to go around and start playing the police on what constitutes for a good comment, but all of this is just a mess and drags down the ICM experience instead of helping anyone, right?

Here, we have a similar row of comments refering to each other where the source link (veehd) may just be gone ..
In this case, ViniciusOG's comment brought it to the conversation. FilmWalrus and again Thorkell refer to it. (marco_n65 too, kinda, but it's completely neutral)
Sagittarius posts another link on Mediafire which is dead - RIP

It was. Someone reported the link was broken back in March, so I emailed the people and they said it was never supposed to have been available in the first place, but should be back up in April.
Email form Ngā Tonga wrote:Kia ora [Fergenaprido],

Thanks for your email and sorry for any inconvenience caused. A client had paid for this item to be preserved, for use in an upcoming film production, and it was inadvertantly added to the online cataloge. This film is due to be released early April, after which time we can restore this film to the catalogue.

I hope that explains it. This item should be viewable shortly.

Thanks

I'll write back to them and see what's up.

So reply to the comment so people know?
I don't know how joachim has been moderating comments, but I feel like that link can still be useful for people to find information about the film, and a responding comment that notes the film is not available there would be better as it lets people who may otherwise find that link in some other way that the film isn't there.

That's different from deleting a link to a deleted youtube account which is usually no longer of use to anyone since there's no extra info or context.

I realize that a few comments - like this one - may still be useful and are a rather grey area. Best maybe would be a moderator's notice on how the link isn't providing the video anymore.
But I just don't know and feel like I'm not the one to decide. I delegate cases like this to the moderators. If you guys want to remove or edit comments - or don't - that's all fine.
In the end, we all like a clean and as well enriching / informative ICM comment section experience.

Joachim has been doing most of the comment moderation, so I'll defer to whatever he feels is best. It just seems to me that it would be easier to just reply to the comment. There are no other comments, anyone seeing one will see the other.

I haven't been trawling the ICM comments for links to films in many years, but when I did there were a few films I found thanks to defunct links giving me a lead for how to search for a newly uploaded version.

Yep, it's a possible scenario. Don't worry, I'd say over 85% of my reports in this thread were just videos that got removed / 404 / erroneous either way :)

If a link only contained the movie (so 99% of the links are the regular streaming sites), I simply remove the comment (unless the comment contains more info, then I edit it). If the link has more than just the movie, I don't remove it. But this rarely happens. Almost everything posted here is Youtube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, etc...
