The Addams Family (2019) is now an official check at the Worldwide Box Office.

Having checked Ford v Ferrari i'm suprised it isn't on the :imdb: genre lists. For instance, it has enough votes and checks to be qualified to the sports list. How these lists work anyway?
Not enough checks yet. It's at 1,127 currently.
If you look at the source linked at the bottom of the list you'll see that there is both a imdb vote minimum and an icm check minimum.
For the 4 FvF genrs:
action - 5000 votes, 1500 checks
biopic - 5000 votes, 1500 checks
drama - 5000 votes, 1500 checks
sport - 1000 votes, 400 checks

My guess is that the imdb list hasn't been updated yet, and once it does it will show up on the sports icm list. I think it gets an update once a month or so. I imagine now with the Oscar noms it will hit 1500 checks by the end of the month, and will show up on the other lists in February if it's rating doesn't drop too much.

That's what I did, I followed the source and I mentioned the Sports list because it does have enough votes and checks to at least appear on that one. I thought it was updated periodically, like 2 times a week as previously (mondays and thursdays for me).

Now that you made the comparison, why does Sports have so low votes and checks and not the same as the other ones?

Lower amount of highly rated movies. So would probably end up with all of Costner's baseball movies in the list with a upper threshold.

The icm list updates twice a week, yes, based on any changes to the imdb filtered list (usually just films moving up or down). The imdb list itself gets updated less frequently.

There are different minimums for different decades/genres, based in part I think on how popular each decade/genre is, and perhaps based also on the vote minimums of the old imdb lists when they still existed.

The lowest threshold is for the 1910s list: 200 votes and 100 checks (it used to be 30 checks a few years ago).
The highest threshold is for a lot of lists: 5000 votes and 1500 checks (it used to be 3000 checks for a 2000s and 2010s lists a few years ago).

16 lists now on the fok top 250! That's halfway where we were in 2018. Currently these have more than 100 points. It's Reservoir Dogs' to lose now. I found out i forgot to vote for Drive and Blade Runner and Apocalypse Now which i have seen a week ago will get a few points too from me. I have voted for every movie in the top 10 except Se7en which i think is overrated. Climax is almost a guaranteed entry unless we see a massive surge in entries which is very unlikely AND doesn't get named in any more lists. Midsommar and The House that Jack Built seem safe too to get on an official list.

Also does someone know how i can import top 100's quickly to the official fok top 100 file? I'm starting to do it manually but it takes a lot of time, and i want to quickly import it. Is that possible.

Ford/Ferrari doesn't have the sports genre tag on imdb. I last updated the imdb lists a few weeks ago, I'll probably do so next at the end of the month.

There are a lot fewer sports films, that's why it has a lower threshold. A couple other genres are the same (noir and western I think, maybe music and family too, I can't remember).

There are only 4 thresholds, 1910s is unique with 100/200, mini-series is unique with 150/1500 (people rate series on imdb a lot more proportionally than people on ICM check them). All the others are either 400/1000 or 1500/5000 based on how many films met the thresholds. Decades split 20s/30s/40s/50s at 400, 60s and later at 1500. I don't remember which genres are which off hand, but most are the high threshold.

The Addams Family (2019) is now an official check at the Worldwide Box Office.
I thought you meant the list was already updated, so I assumed some mod had already done it. I'll do it later this evening. Or maybe tomorrow.

I think I'll just plan to update them every two weeks.

Destry Rides Again
The Cremator (YES!)
Me and You and Everyone You Know
The Grand Budapest Hotel (cue fanboys everywhere)

While I am a Wes Anderson fan, I find it a little unnecessary for Criterion to release each and every one of his films...he seems to be the only contemporary filmmaker that has this kind of relationship with Criterion. Is there some kind of actual deal/contract between him and the label?

it's a business. They have to release some new movies to at least get some income. So yes, not all movies in the catalogue will be on the top lists.

I think I've read that he does have a clause in his contracts with production companies/theatrical distributors that Criterion gets home video rights after a set amount of time (3 years, or whatever).

and yeah I think the only Criterion title to outsell Anderson films was A Hard Day's Night. so, they print money.

I want one! (to print money for me)

sounds like a catchy title of a yet unreleased Beatles song, no?

I think Anderson's also a big fan of Criterion - and he probably likes the "prestige" of being a part of the collection, along with masterpieces like Jellyfish Eyes and Armageddon.

I doubt Criterion is obligated to release everything of his, but yeah... Money.

With that said, I do agree that releases like GBH do seem a bit extraneous.

and Criterion was, years ago, the only place where he could create the obsessively meticulous releases that match his aesthetic and presumable desire for home video releases of his films, and they've obviously created a decent working relationship, so why jump ship?

I wonder if any other filmmaker could obtain that kind of relationship with them...it’s certainly unique! I will probably will buy their eventual Isle of Dogs release though...in 2023 or whenever, lol.

David Lynch is approaching the level, but it's not quite the same because he's not putting out new releases regularly. His interactions with non-Criterion labels (after having worked with Criterion) are pretty notorious.

but no, I don't think anyone could have the same sort of relationship. To be critically successful enough to warrant Criterion's interest, and to have enough commercial cachet to make those demands with your producers/distributors? Probably not going to work in the current landscape, especially since this would be essentially limited to US filmmakers.

They also seem to have a pretty good relationship with Malick. They've released everything of his through Tree of Life, and they're apparently working on To the Wonder.

Not sure what will happen with Knight of Cups and Song to Song though, since their producer/distributor went under in 2018.

Three good choices but not huge on A Silent Voice. Not seen Hal but Garden dropping official status is quite sad. However Origin is a film I vociferously hated so it being dropped alone makes this a very welcome update.

That looks like a good update to me. The 3 removed movies are average, imo. The Garden of Words is one of Shinkai's worst, so I'm glad it was replaced with Your Name. I think A Silent Voice is a bit overrated, but better than the removed movies. I still need to watch Mirai.

I actually like The Garden of Words a lot, but it's hard to defend its place when Your Name isn't on the list. And having more Shinkai on it wouldn't really benefit the overall quality either. I also like Mirai and A Silent Voice a lot, though the 2019 drama (with the fire attack on the studio) might have something to do with its sudden appearance. From the 3 new entries, it's the one I see disappearing first when the next update is due.

NY Times list is updated. I also renamed it:
https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/ny+t ... ms+to+see/
Sorry, with almost 200 official lists to track, it would be much more helpful to know the old name and the new name. Other than actually going list by list, I've no way to know what was changed. :ermm:

The old name was something like 1,000 essential films to see. 1,000 had the comma and the NY times wasn't named in the title.

I've searched on essential but that doesn't help. Could it have been "The Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made"? Yeah, that's so closely related to "NY Times' The Essential 1,000 Films to See" that only a total idiot can't see the connection, but it's what I come up with when I search for "1,000" and I'm not finding a variation on that theme on the progress page (but since there was an update, my numbers don't agree so I can't use that to pin-point).

At least, if that's the right list, it's a much better, less generic, name.

Maybe we should add "formerly know as 'The Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made' to the description so those who don't hang out in film list forums might follow along with the change.

Yeah that's the one. I remembered it having a very generic name and the 1,000 because I'd miss it whenever I tried to find it with 1000.
