Don't remember why I watched this (almost exactly) two years ago, must have been promoted before.

Didn't like it. 4.8/10. Can't remember much about it to tell you more, to be honest. Glad it's got too many checks for the hidden gem list now.

Just watched. It was okay with a mix of clever cinematography and a rather trite story. Suffers from the usual 'problems' I find in most silents - the makeup on men is way overdone (though I don't remember any black lips) and the acting is just too 'big.' There was no subtlety. But the bigger issue was the story just didn't interest me. It was hard for me to decide on a rating, but I went with 6 stars and not 7. Feels very overrated to me on IMDb, but that's nothing new when it comes to silent cinema and me.

Listen, Daddy. Teacher says, 'every time a car alarm bleeps, into heaven a demon sneaks.'

I remember watching it as the last movie of "film of each year challenge" in 2015, minutes before going out to new year's eve party. The story seemed rather naive and annoying but there was some amazing cinematography - especially that ending made the whole thing worth watching.

I feel like I would have been more invested in the film if the default look people expressed on their face wasn't a stone face/frown.

Decent romantic melodrama. The story is old hat, but the editing and photography are the main attractions. Worth seeing for the swing carousel scene alone: A vision of the fairgrounds as a source of menace and despair. The image below was one that quite took my breath away.
