A zori zdes tikhie AKA The Dawns Here are Quiet (1972)

I was a bit
"We all talk pig Latin" she says... I'm afraid to miss half of the film with my bad English and my subtitles...

That kind of mystery-for-the-sake-of-mystery bothers me sometimes (yes, Lost is a good example) but not in this case. We are being put in the position of the boys, we don't know where the father has been, he just re-appears in their life.
I think their not knowing where he's been is part of the key to their relationship with the father - would the same conflict be there on this trip if he wasn't such a mystery to them?

Yes, I agree, Lost is different, it really got "lost" as it progressed... but here the mystery didn't bother me at all, I think it was quite fitting within the overall atmosphere of this excellent film. 9/10brokenface on May 22 2012, 07:55:45 AM wrote:That kind of mystery-for-the-sake-of-mystery bothers me sometimes (yes, Lost is a good example) but not in this case.

Understandable, I kinda feel the same way. Hard enough writing reviews in my 1st language.
Merci Beaucop.
