sennaho's quest to...watch movies!

#1

Post by sennaho » November 9th, 2013, 3:01 am

I am just making this to have a place to list all the movies I see and the rating I give them. Maybe I'll write small reviews sometimes, but that depends on how much time I have on my hands.

I would be happy to discuss the movies and hear how awful the movie I gave a 8 really is!

This is my quest to watch movies!

Awesome. Good luck. Hope you watch tons of great films, and I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread. Too bad you didn't care much for Onibaba and Vargtimmen though, love those - but I got far more agreements than disagreements on the list above.

I thought it was really boring and uninspiring. Nothing really interesting or great, I just sat bored trough the whole thing. I know a lot of people disagree with me, but that just how I felt!

Thank you so much :)

Those where two movies I wanted to like but just couldn't. I felt that I should watch Vargtimmen both because it's so highly ranked as a horror and because I am norwegian myself, but besides a few good scenes I didn't get anything from it.

Onibaba was people running and people having sex, so I didn't really enjoy that one either ;) I like running and sex it's not that, but a whole movie was a bit too much for me. Couple of great scenes, but again, didn't work for me!

95. The Mist (2007) 8/10

I loved this movie! I had no idea what to expect and didn't really knew what it would be about, but this was my cup of tea. Good human drama even though I hated the christian rambling woman so hard it was provoking as hell.

Loved almost every aspect of it. Not the best story ever, and the "it's the military's fault" is nothing original, but I didn't really care, as the movie was interesting and grabbed my attention trough the whole thing.

Oh yeah, the ending is truly heartbreaking!

96. The Wind Rises (2013) 8/10

Got to see this one at the local animation festival. One of the first screenings of this in Norway I think.

I really enjoyed this movie quite a bit. A lot different than the other Studio Ghibli movies I have seen, but I didn't mind. A good drama/biographical movie. Interested in reading a bit about the real guy behind the character in the movie now. It had good movies, good characters, a good story and it was quite emotionally as well.

97. Wolf Children (2012) 8/10

The other movie I got to see at the animation festival. I had no idea what kind of movie this was (except from two lines about it on imdb) and it blew me away. Quiet, slow, beautiful and emotionally. A masterpiece!

98. Total Recall (1990) 6/10

I just got this on BR the other day and yesterday we decided to watch it. We didn't have time to finish it, so we watched the other half today. Not the best movie I have seen, and I didn't thought it would be, but for me, this was kind of underwhelming. I had hoped for a bit more action and Arnold awesomeness, but was kind of let down. It had it's moment though and had some great special effects.

99. Cape Fear (1991) 6/10

I have not yet seen the original, but I enjoyed this a bit. Not my favorite De Niro performance, but it was fun to see him in this kind of role. It had some good moments, but it was nothing special. Some of the scenes where pretty hard to watch, but not too many made me feel anything. An ok movie and the worst of Scorsese I have seen so far. (Haven't seen that many)

No problem! I hope that you get a chance to see it and that you like it. I didn't know that the movie existed before two days ago, so I am happy that I got to see it. Tell me when you have a chance to watch it :)

100. The Naked Gun: From the files of Police Squad! (1988) 8/10

I have heard of this movie since I was a kid, but I newer got around to see it. I have no idea how I would have liked it when I was a kid, but I loved it now. This was right up my alley, with slapstick and cheesy comedy and some really laughing out loud moments. Leslie Nielsen is great!

101. The Girl Who Leapt Trough Time (2006) 8/10

After seeing Wolf Children the other day, I had to check out the other movies from the same director. This movie was already on my computer so it was an easy choice to watch this. As with Wolf Children, the movie is pretty slow paced and the story is not that "important", but there is a bit more story elements in this one, but it worked really well. I loved it and recommend this movie!

102. Gravity (2013) 8/10

I had been looking forward to see this for a while and today we got to go to the cinema. I don't really know what to say that haven't been said before, but I can say a couple of my thoughts. I enjoyed this quite a bit, but I wasn't completely blown away. The visuals where amazing and the acting was great. Most of the time I loved it, but the problem I had with the movie was that it kind of dropped me some times. It allowed me to relax and not care too much for a while, and that made me like the movie a little bit less. This was not because the movie was slow, I loved that, and it's hard to explain exactly what I mean. Sandra Bullock was amazing and I will be surprised if she doesn't get a nomination for best actress for this part. I can recommend it, but I think you'll have to see it in the cinema to get the full experience!

103. Pet Sematary (1989) 6/10

A decent movie. Not my favorite at all, but it had some decent scenes. A bit slow and didn't really care for the story.

104. Airplane (1980) 5/10

Some funny moments, but nothing special. All in all it was decent, but not that funny!

My movie-watching habits really goes up and down! We have nearly not watched any movies this year, but the last two weeks in august, we have watched almost 30 movies, so we have a movie-watching period again ;)

Will update once in a while...hopefully.

September 2014
1. The man from earth (2007) 7/10

A different and interesting movie. It felt kind of independent with some cheesy acting here and there. Besides that, it was nice to see a sci-fi movie like this.

2. Dark City (1998) 6,5/10

Pretty good movie, this one. Different and not like anything I have seen. I enjoyed the story and the acting was good.

3. Office Space (1999) 7/10

A nice little comedy. Not the best I have ever seen, but it had great characters and a nice storyline.

4. Infernal Affairs (2002) 5/10

This one didn't really do to much for me. It was a bit straightforward and I felt like most of the movie was easy to forsee. It was ok I guess.

5. City of god (2002) 8,5/10

A really great and strong movie. Crazy to think about that this is based on true events, but also good to be able to see things like this. Great story and nice cinematic elements.

6. Hedwig and the angry inch (2001) 7/10

Strange, great music, great acting, weird, and different from all the other musicals I have seen.

7. The funhouse (1981) 3,5/10

This one didn't do anything for me. Some nice scenes here and there, but all in all, pretty much just boring.

8. Rushmore (1998) 8/10

Another great Wes Anderson movie. I loved the whole thing!

9. The Producers (1967) 6,5/10

Some nice bits and some good acting, but you kind of knew where it was going from the beginning of, and it wasn't so amazing, but I enjoyed it!
