In 2020 only Khanate's "Things Viral" should be listened to
But then I was in for a lot of Sludge and Black Metal. Liked the new Ilsa and Primitive Man albums a lot.
I also listened to some softer stuff, mostly Emma Ruth Rundle (bringing things together with Thou recently!) and poppy anthems from Christine and the Queens and Caroline Polachek, Squirrel Flower and Torres were discoveries. Regarding older bands Pram was also a major discovery for me

Have only liked RTJ4, though Mac Miller’s Circles was decent too.
I'm still lots of albums behind. Got a list of dozens I want to listen to, so maybe I can post a decent list next summer.
So far I've bought 17 albums from 2020. Three of those are live albums, so let's not count those.
Of the other 14, I think this is my top 7 so far.
1. Haken - Virus
2. Katatonia - City Burials
3. Ayreon - Transitus
4. Pain of Salvation - Panther
5. Neal Morse - Sola Gratia
6. Sons of Apollo - MMXX
7. Carach Angren - Franckensteina Strataemontanus
But this might change if you ask me tomorrow.

I gave a 4/5 to the following albums:
Abysmal Dawn - Phylogenesis (2020)
Benighted - Obscene Repressed (2020)
Black Curse - Endless Wound (2020)
Bohren & der Club of Gore - Patchouli Blue (2020)
Borgne - Y (2020)
Cénotaphe - Monte Verità (2020)
Enslaved - Utgard (2020)
Jordablod - The Cabinet of Numinous Song (2020)
Myrkur - Folkesange (2020)
Nothing - The Great Dismal (2020)
Revenge - Strike.Smother.Dehumanize (2020)
I heard the new Oranssi Pazuzu and it was fine but I didn't really like it. Not a big fan of psychedelic music in general.
I haven't heard the other albums posted.

A metal fan that didn't hear Paysage d'Hiver? That needs to change ASAP. Easily one of the best black metal projects.

Yes I've heard great things about this project, and this album seems like a highlight of the year. I've been meaning to check out his stuff but the albums are long and I don't like not listening to an album in full the first time. And finding two full hours isn't easy for me these days.Pretentious Hipster wrote: ↑December 21st, 2020, 8:55 pmA metal fan that didn't hear Paysage d'Hiver? That needs to change ASAP. I plan on using this thread for recommendations, so if I get around to listening to it (or something else) I'll write a few lines.
I've only listened to a handful of albums from this year. Manger on McNichols and Alfredo were both very good.

I'd say save it until a snowstorm happens. I heard him for the first time when on a bus during a blizzard and it was a phenomenal experience.clemmetarey wrote: ↑December 21st, 2020, 10:54 pmYes I've heard great things about this project, and this album seems like a highlight of the year. I'm not cool enough for y'all. Folklore might be my favorite album ever. Still need to listen to Evermore.

I didn't listen to many 2020 albums yet. But Miss Anthropocene from Grimes and RTJ4 were the standouts from what I did listen to.
I’m to remember every man I've seen fall into a plate of spaghetti???

The New Abnormal by The Strokes is my current favorite and I can't imagine that changing - one of the best records my favorite band has put out yet.
How I'm Feeling Now (Charli XCX) and Top (NBA Youngboy) are my runner-ups. I also liked the new Dylan a good deal.

Oh shit, that reminds me I need to cop Rough & Rowdy!
Kinda curious about the new Stokes now too. I've only heard This Is It, but that's an obvious classic even for a non indie-rock fan, and the Rick Rubin production credit piques my interest.

The funny thing is I'm not even big on indie rock generally but The Strokes just put out the most perfect music to me; around the time Angles came out they started to do significantly more experimenting with their sound, too.

An unordered 13ish that I've liked enough for multiple listens:
Kelly Lee Owens - Inner Song
Waxahatchee - Saint Cloud
Porridge Radio - Every Bad
BC Camplight - Shortly After Takeoff
Hen Ogledd - Free Humans
The Avalanches - We Will Always Love You
Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters
Loma - Don't Shy Away
Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher
Sorry - 925
Adrianne Lenker - Songs & Instrumentals
Beatrice Dillon - Workaround
Sault - Untitled (both!)
missing live music a lot. Loma, Sorry & Hen Ogledd all artists I first encountered through live shows. And my ticket for Porridge Radio has been delay about 3 times now. Was supposed to be March 2020, now Nov 2021
