We're at 7. One spot left for someone who wants a middly-aged misanthrope to toss shit on something they hold dear.

Well look at me, being so Absence-minded.

We're at 8. No more recs. Thoughts on Loma and Miranda Sex Garden coming soon.

The Dalek album is easily one of my favourite hip hop albums.

Yeah, same here. A lot of great stuff was made on the verge of hip-hop & electronic.

Not the ones I love. A few examples of albums I was considering:

Transatlantic - The Whirlwind
Devin Townsend - Empath
Haken - The Mountain
Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory
Leprous - The Congregation
Ayreon - The Human Equation (or any other album, but they are all over 60 min, most are doubles)
The Mars Volta ‎– Frances The Mute

Not familiar with Mal Waldron but fuckin finally some jazz.
You probably know some of his work (he played with Mingus on Blues & Roots and with Eric Dolphy on Far Cry, to name just two), but yeah, his solo stuff usually flies under the radar.

Miranda Sex Garden - Fairytales of Slavery (1994)

Days 1-7, Listens 1-7

This did not work for me. I don't like the vox and the panoramic sludgy gothy dark wave soundscape didn't tickle me at all. I would have preferred something that felt smaller and chillier. With different vox.

Final verdict: 1/5

Loma - Loma (2018)

Days 1-7, Listens 1-7

This almost worked for me. Kind of a hard record to pin down with words. It sounds like lots of things I've heard before -- mainly It band indie shit that was popular a decade ago to 5 years ago -- churned together to create something ever so slightly novel. But that's not nearly enough to be engaging. As with the MSG album, once again not digging these try-hard female vox. Kind of an oddness to them, sounds like a music teacher reading off a lyric sheet after chasing a cup of coffee with a valium. "Relay Runner" is kind of nice. No other standouts.

Final verdict: 1.5/5

1.5 is better than 1, I guess :ermm: I think it has a bit of trip-hop/Portishead influence

The oxbow album probably has my all time favourite vocal performance. Very manic and avant-garde, but very emotional and you can definitely hear the talent. I usually find mixing an orchestra with rock music to be a turn off but it somehow works here. There are touched of noisy dissonance with the guitars and orchestra but it's rarely there.

The writing and the thinking stuff is very hard for me at the moment so I haven't been doing it. Still have listened to all the albums. Eventually will post thoughts.

If there is a round 3 I'll probably demand requests of one and done 70s tax scam records and one and done 70s tax scam records only.

I'm trying to align my write-up with the release of Detox.
