This Heat
One of my favourite albums is their album Deceit. It's incredibly avant-garde though, doing tons of ideas that even musicians today won't even come close to doing, like changing the song from a studio recording to a live recording halfway through.

Slightly off topic, but there's this one new decent prog rock band that I think you may enjoy. Ever heard of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard? Sounds like a band you'll probably love

Thanks! First time I hear of them, need to listen more - sounds more like psych with prog elements.

Heard of King Grizzard & The Lizard Wizard - nice track though.

When I had a better room for music I listened to a lot more rock and post punk - usually loved both when more 'experimental'. This Heat were always a favourite for that. And Durutti Column have to be one of the most chilled out post punk bands.

Might as well do five more tracks now.

29 A Certain Ratio - Knife Slits Water

28 Slint - Good Morning Captain

27 Can - Mushroom

26 Captain Beefheart - Electricity

25 My Bloody Valentine - Cigarette in your Bed

Soo just a top 25 left to do now :)

:worship: so, totally Anglophone and the 'top' artists were Miles Davis and Phil Collins both with 2 tracks each. :D

Bowie, Gottsching, Zeppelin
I've noticed you have several Collins tracks here, don't you like the early Genesis?
And now we know where Pirate Jenny comes from :whistling:
Good work, mate, thanks for sharing!

Thanks - Love Genesis, which tracks would you have chosen?
The Phil Collins tracks I chose were You Can't Hurry Love which could have easily been The Supremes version (and countless other motown tracks) and In The Air Tonight, which is just well... :)

And the Miles tracks were Tomaas (highlight of 80s era Miles and just has a good vibe) and the first track of Sketches of Spain (which probably isn't even my favourite LP of his) but there's just so many, I almost see Jazz and Classical as seperate forms of music but had to throw a few in somewhere.

Interestingly - the other jazz tracks I chose were

Joe Henderson - Black Narcissus and Canyon Lady (so there's another artist with two).
and Hancock Maiden Voyage (can't beat Herbie's chords) and the first from A Love Supreme.

I'm not sure a jazz top 10 would look the same - so it's an interesting excercise.
edit - oh I had the first track of Ornette Coleman's Science Fiction too - I love that record.

I think Selling England by the Pound is my fav album by Genesis, this track is absolutely phenomenal:

I actually don't have a problem with the commercial Collins period of the band (I know many look down upon it), but a "bad" Genesis tune is still 100 times better than most of the music today :D

I dunno why I always tend to listen to Collins more than Genesis as they're great (will be listening to them today) but even had a solo Peter Gabriel track (Solsbury Hill) in there too! So...

 That's one of the greatest bands ever and each member is a highest caliber musician so no wonder mostly anything they produce is of high quality.

:) This thing (and I think it's prob just DX7 keyboard) is one of the reasons to love In The Air Tonight for me.

Image

Very basic drum machine but what a sound!

I've purposefully left out film soundtracks really, as whole different subject, but I listen to tons of goofy 80s soundtracks as bit of a drum machine fanatic.
