I must confess I have a sweet spot for Magdalena Kožená, who's utterly enchanting in this cantata:

Damn I'm awful at keeping track of these threads.
Yeah I like Villazón a lot, probably my favourite of the tenors performing at the moment I've heard, other than Domingo.
Bryn Terfel is excellent yeah, he's always performing in the UK, not had a chance to see him personally unfortunately. In general the tenor repertoire is my favourite though.

Monty, any chance you'd be willing to add "classical" to the topic title? It seems a shame to start another music lounge when these two areas are so closely related.
BTW, watching the Glynbourne Festival presentation of Fidelio tonight.

So, continuing my quest to see all the great operas, even if only on disc. Given my very limited experience, I'm wondering if maybe someone else on the board might shed some light, and granted, filmed presentations are children of editors, so that may have colored my past experience.
How frequent are curtain calls upon completion of an Act? Of course I'm familiar with them at the end of the production and clearly there are show stoppers which lead to a soloist's or duet's (etc) acknowledgement of the acclaim with a bow or several, but this is the first time I've seen concerted curtain calls after each act (though granted, this could have been edited out of other filmed productions). BTW, it's not the entire cast, just the leads though not necessarily just vocal, some seem to be trotting out who served - not sure what it would be called - more of a dramatic sidenote than actually contributing to either music or narrative.

I'm not precisely an opera buff but I do seek out film versions of 20th-century opera, such as
Shostakovich - Lady Macbeth von Mzensk (1992)
Prokoviev - War and peace / La guerre et la paix (2000)
Carlisle Floyd's Willie Stark (2008) [All the King's Men]
