Somehow I have never heard the song below until today. It was mentioned in a book I recently read, which motivated me to give it a listen. And I just learned that it's the basis for a popular Australian dance. What a funky, curious world we live in.

My childhood Tina Turner favorite, along with I Can't Stand The Rain (which now I know is a cover). Mother had a best of CD. It's probably in my top 1000 still. Haven't seen the dance. Until now. Fun way to exercise.
Funny that my favorite Tina Turner song was discovered by me only last year. Those best-of compilers dropped a ball.

Was just sorting through some stuff and unearthed a Ziploc bag of cds that I bought back in the 1990s... this song is on one of them and I have vivid memory of playing this on the outdoor sound system at a block party on Venice Beach in ~1998. One of my best friends puked in the gutter and passed out at 7pm that night and at around 2am I had to drive about 10 people all over Los Angeles bringing them home... after I'd been drinking all night.
ah, the memories...

Black Sabbath popped into my head. There really is something audaciously lazy about rhyming the same word with itself in the opening lines.

"Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses"

like, did they think it was blackmas like christmas?

I revisited Just as I Am by Bill Withers, in light of his passing. It's a very good LP. The first three tracks are killer.

Hoo boy. That new lo-fi Mountain Goats album is fan-fucking-tastic. I'm a hardcore fan. I've seen John Darnielle live about 10 times. Songs for Pierre Chuvin is right up there with Tallahassee and The Sunset Tree. I preordered the cassette.

This is one of the best voices in pop music

If it wasn't for the song with Brooke Candy who might be the worst rapper ever, this would easily be one of the greatest pop albums ever made

Reflections is one of my fav pop albums but it's quite different from the usual PC music. I'd say it's more a deconstruction of trance music. Take trance but instead of it being optimist and party-friendly it's replaced with a cold and depressing atmosphere.
