And it turns out the singer is the leader of a relatively well-known band.
I prefer him in Hercules & Love Affair's megasong Blind
He's a she now.

Yeah I'm not that keen and haven't heard all of their stuff. Still they're probably my fav russian band.
I've got level 1 with Группа Крови, Хочу Перемен!, Пачка Сигарет and now Кончится Лето in that order
Then the level 2 in no order is: Война, Закрой За Мной Дверь Я Ухожу, Звезда По Имени Солнце, Последний Герой 1989, Спокойная Ночь
And most of them I just heard for the first time.
Any less known favorites?

Right, I would probably also rank them as my favorite Russian band along Auktyon. Besides the obvious choices you listed here are some more of my favs:

I've been enjoying Kino ever since I discovered them in one of them Golos shows. Lately my favourite song is Zakroj. Kukuška, Pačka, Noč, Zvězda... (l)

Here's a Kino tribute I heart.

I've yet to watch the Leto bio as both my local cinema and KG are unsupportive.

P.S. Sorry but not sorry about the Czech transcripion.

Nice to see Kino getting exposure also outside of former USSR

Not sure I enjoyed that tribute as I thought it was a bit "out of tune" with the song itself.

This is one of those cases where the command of Russian is rather essential since the lyrics play a key role here, in fact it's one of the fundamental reasons behind their success, at times those lyrics seem simple, but at the same time very deep and complex, it's very hard to translate and get that message across, obviously a lot of that also has to do with the times when that music was created.

I must thank the talent shows. I very much dislike the local versions but the RU/UA ones are great (in big part because I seem to be immune to their English accents).

Very valid point, bal3x. I quit learning Russian very early on so...

"We've invited an Albanian interpreter but he only speaks Romanian so we had to find a Romanian one but he only speaks Serbian. The Serb speak Russian and the Russian speaks Czech only. Thankfully, I speak Czech." :D

Bono and Gavin Friday's excellent title track from Jim Sheridan's 1993 biopic about the the Troubles, In the Name of the Father. Friday's singing totally overshadows Bono's on this track.

Amazing Nyman soundtrack, Gruesome. Great movie too.

I've been listening to Dave's "PSYCHODRAMA," which was released last weekend and currently has an impressive 100% on Metacritic.

Never heard of Dave until now. He's definitely going to be a big name in hip hop; he's an amazing lyricist.

For the sample of Ginsberg's poem.

Europe! Europe!

World world world
I sit in my room
imagine the future
sunlight falls on Paris
I am alone there is no
one whose love is perfect
man has been mad man’s
love is not perfect I
have not wept enough
my breast will be heavy
till death the cities
are specters of cranks
of war the cities are
work & brick & iron &
smoke of the furnace of
selfhood makes tearless
eyes red in London but
no eye meets the sun

That's pretty awesome! I'd love to see them live. Must have been a rather surreal sight to see those two sailing by you on the river, haha.

I'm listening a lot to this these days, I'm really blown away (considering I wasn't that into their ealier stuff):

PS: I actually know that Asia Minor album and like it quite a bit (quite jazzy from what I remember). Might give it a play sometime again.

PS2: I love Slowdive too. I think my favorite song is 40 Days.

I was a fan of her band Rilo Kiley when I was a teen but haven't really followed her in quite a while...that may change though, I like that tune!
