What other bands (non-ambient) tend to have songs over 10 minutes?
other than Neil Young, Grateful Dead, Allman BB, the main prog rock bands

Trance. No that uncommon in other electronic genres either.

I forgot about Tago Mago. I think the CD is in a box in my closet (I hope).

Longer than 10 min and not a prog rock band? Some of the classic rock variety: Floyd, Doors, Led Zep,Yes, Velvet Undergound, etc. Prob some of Frank Zappa's too and also Sigur Rós, Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Plus a band whose name I can;t remember right now... something white or white something. I guess some of those are actually prog though.

Dylan has a bunch of songs over 10 mins.

Was just listening to Lou Reed's Street Hassle today and the title track is 11 mins, and really great

yeah but the theme would have to be developed, not just the same sample played for an extended period of time.

Been listening to the Triple J Hottest 100 over the last few days. I've never paid much attention to these things (this countdown has typically been a big deal on Australia Day, but they did it early this year for some reason?), but I was getting bored of albums around the time I noticed it had already been done. I'm just over halfway through. I had listened to Triple J's top 10 albums of 2020 a while ago so I knew of a handful of songs but mostly these are all new to me. And wow they're pretty bad. There were some good ones in the top 10 (aside from that revolting Cardi B song :yucky:), and Mac Miller's Blue World, and the rest has been either really generic or bad.

Stuff I already liked/heard previously:

Heat Waves - Glass Animals (has grown on me a lot)
Spoiler
Booster Seat - Spacey Jane (preferred Hanging from this album, but not a bad tune)
Spoiler
Cherub - Ball Park Music (again, not my fave from the album but nice)
Spoiler
Blue World - Mac Miller (my boyfriend's a big fan and introduced me to his stuff a while ago)
Spoiler
New finds:

Hyperfine - G Flip (don't usually like this kind of music, but got stuck in my head)
Spoiler
Therefore I Am - Billie Eilish (I'd heard people complaining about this person before and I thought they were just some tween crap thing so was surprised this was alright)
Spoiler
"I do not always know what I want, but I do know what I don't want." - Stanley Kubrick
