And now the 2010s are done! I finished off the 1001 list early in the decade, and it was just the Pitchfork list for the rest of it. And wow, what a terrible decade. The 2000s Pitchfork list was really interesting and varied and I found a lot of good stuff. Not so much for the 2010s. Complete crap. I have also been catching up with new entries to the RYM list so have also finished the top 1001 (not including archival/live) on there, aside from the 5.5 hour album that got in this week. Average ratings for the lists are included below..

Best finds from the 10s (that I hadn't listened to before):
John Grant - Queen of Denmark (2010) 7
Lil Peep - Hellboy (2016) 7/10

Other stuff I've liked since the last time:
Run the Jewels - RTJ4 (2020) 7/10

Current stats:
1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (2013 edition): 1001/1001 2.6/5
Rolling Stones' Top 500 Albums of All Time (2012): 500/500 2.7/5
Pitchfork 1960s: 200/200 2.5/5
Pitchfork 1970s: 100/100 2.7/5
Pitchfork 1980s: 100/100 2.5/5
Pitchfork 1990s: 100/100 2.4/5
Pitchfork 2000s: 200/200 2.4/5
Pitchfork 2010s: 200/200 2.3/5

My next goals are to explore more music from different countries, stuff from genres I'll probably like, the Pokemon genre project which I've been doing daily, and slowly working on the Acclaimed Music's Top 3000 Albums list (I've listened to nearly 1600/3000). And also starting to re-listen to some of my favourites and other albums I wanted to give a second listen. I rarely listened to albums before the original 1001 RYM project started in early 2015, but I've basically trained myself to listen to albums now. It's either my current playlist on shuffle or albums. I've now listened to a total of 2822 albums with an average rating of 5.1/10. I've listened to a pretty even amount from the 1960s-2010s, across 652 genres (according to the sometimes-very-oddly-specific RYM genres) and 52 countries. I've loved enough albums to have a solid top ~50, and a good top ~150.

The last five years have made it clear that I am NOT an album person, I don't find them very consistent works or nor do I find artists particularly consistent (same with film, so I guess that's just a thing). However, albums have been very helpful in allowing me to give everything a go. I've listened to countless genres and artists that I would have never have touched before or that I would've skipped immediately had a song played. I had a habit years ago where I'd give a song 30 seconds to impress me before I'd skip it. I might not have enjoyed listening to everything, but honestly it's given me a wider appreciation for listening in general and a better understanding of different types of music and what I like. My tastes haven't really changed, but have become more 'rounded', I suppose. I do not take music as seriously as film, and I'm not interested in/can't hear the 'technical' qualities, and all that matters to me (still) is how enjoyable I find it to listen to (what else?).

I have also been pleasantly surprised in a lot of ways. I found lots of individual songs that I liked on albums that I didn't really get into. I would've listed hip hop as one of the worst genres, but now it's kind of in the middle: it turns out it's R&B I hate. My boyfriend thought it was funny and confusing when he heard me listening to hip hop (basically the only music he listens to), but now we're able to have discussions about the music/artists/history and he always wants to know what I've listened to or liked. He's even keeping a secret playlist of hip hop songs he thinks I'll like. Could've named about 3 hip hop songs I liked before this, now I actually don't know how many I like.

I only recently started making up top of the decade lists so I'll share a very rough top 25 of the 2010s (only the top 12 is strong):
