I bought a Switch a week ago. almost two weeks ago? time, whatever. I've got BotW, Mario Odyssey, Mario Maker 2 and TETRIS NINETY NINE BEST GAME EVER FOR THE LAST TWO HOURS. I might get Stardew Valley that looks pretty fun.

I really thought it would only take a week to do my next review. 16 days in and I'm only halfway done. Super Mario Brothers 3 is literally the hardest game I've ever played so far. I can't even beat the beginning of world 3 and tried for so long. The worst part is that I still have The Lost Levels to do as well.

Super Mario 3 is fun - and certainly hard. I'm not sure I've ever beaten it - I have made it somewhat far in World 8, but that was by using all the various warps and tricks to get there.

WOW classic comes out tomorrow. I haven't played WOW in about 10 years, but my brother and I are going to join up and play again. I've had a few months break from oldschool RS for a few months, but he's gone hardcore and got his first ever 99 a couple of weeks ago. I still haven't achieved that life-goal. I never played WOW as seriously as RS, but it's fun in a different way. I remember the first character I played was a human, and I wandered south into the western, sandy place that I can't remember next to the spooky dark forest with spider webs, and songs like Dancing in the Dark, Lovers in a Dangerous Time, Save Your Kisses For Me, In The Summertime were a few songs I had in my playlist at the time and they always remind me of wandering around those areas.

Anyway, bro wants to go horde so I'm thinking of going for Troll Hunter. Haven't played hunter much and never gone troll so will be nice to try something new. It comes out 6am tomorrow and my brother is getting up at 5.30 just to play lol. I'd like to start at the same time as him but no way am I getting up that early, plus I gotta do my morning Pokemon Go first.

3 days in and I'm stuck on world 7. Just on the first 3-4 levels of that world. Lost count on how many game overs I had. I'll try for a bit tomorrow and will spend around 7-8 hours on Wednesday. If I make no progress then, then I'll just skip to the Lost Levels and admit that I gave up on the review.

this is SMB3? man, worlds 7+ 8 are pretty tough but I think 5 is the hardest for me. the main problem with 7 + 8 are how long they are. there's like, what, 12 stages in each or something? fatigue sets in pretty quick.

I'm usually one for strategic and sports games, mostly offline just so I can relax but I have somehow found my way back to League of Legends. Not ranked or anything but just solo queueing draft picks without trying too hard but not trolling either.

I doubt anyone else is interested but if anyone wants to play a game once, just contact me.

Don't expect anything serious though, I started in season 2 but never got past gold.

I saved most of my powerups but had to use a lot for the 2nd half of world 5. I managed to make progress on world 7 after posting this (obv) but I can't save the game because I need the p-wing for one of the levels. I tried eating breakfast but I started gagging and have been nauseous ever since. This happened to me plenty of times before. I'm having physical symptoms of stress. This game is literally making me sick and might give me a meltdown. Guess this shows why I'm on disability.

This is going to be an interesting review lol.

SMB3 is awesome. I haven't played it recently, but I don't remember it being too hard. Maybe the newer games are just too easy.

Are you playing the NES version or the All-Stars version?

Tried the NES version but it doesn't save your game. When I realized that I can't beat it in one sitting I played All Stars. I'm not a skilled gamer. Still, games like Severance: Blade of Darkness are infamous for their difficulty, but I thought they were a cakewalk compared to smb3.

I wrote the review and my estimate is that my review of the trilogy will be around 20 minutes. I used fiverr to make an 8-bit pretentious hipster to spice up my intros so I'll wait until those are finished before doing my review. Worst case scenario I can just start working on my next game while I wait.

I swear if I only get like 20-30 views for this then I'm gonna be pissed.

SNES yes but it was zelda or jrpgs aside from All Stars. I'm completely new to NES games. I never had an NES until a few months ago.

So Minkin told me about warp whistles. I decided to use those to get to world 8. Only level that I'll miss in world 7 is the air ship so I think I would still consider it as beating the game. Time to give it another chance.

Lost Levels is the hardest of the 4, but if I remember correctly, All Stars lets you save at every level, so that makes it easier.

After you finish Lost Levels, are you going to play Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island?

If you want a break from Mario, maybe try the Donkey Kong Country series. DKC2 is my favorite platformer.

Yea I will give The Lost Levels about 3-4 days. How in-depth the review will be depends on how far I get. I don't wanna make it an all out review as this is just the bonus of All Stars, and my review is only for the trilogy. I'll be reviewing the games you've mentioned here, but in a different order. Go to this post to see the list of games I'm reviewing: viewtopic.php?p=586360#p586360

I did play Donkey Country 1 and 3 before and loved them. Yoshi's Island is easily one of my favourite games of all time. Never played Super Mario World.

Been playing WOW Classic the last few days. Been pretty fun. Teamed up with my bro, but it's still quite hard and a grind (and so many players around so fighting for resources). The oceanic servers crashed a few hours ago and we're still waiting. It's annoying, sure, but holy fecking hell the crybabies. I was reading on the twitter and forums and everyone like OMG HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO ME HOW IS THIS NOT FIXED YET GIVE ME ETA GIVE ME REFUND OF 50C FOR THE WHOLE DAY I'VE LOST BLIZZARD WHY DO YOU NOT CARE ABOUT MY SPECIFIC NEEDS AND THAT I NEED TO PLAY NOW. They're more annoying than the fecking downtime.

Got my 2 sprites done from fiverr. Will add them to the intro of my videos, and made one of them my avatar. In about a week or two I will get my own logo and a better looking YouTube banner done from fiverr as well.

I made it to the fortress in world 8. Will play all day tomorrow to beat the game and dedicate the rest of the day to The Lost Levels. Don't plan on beating it because it's just a bonus part of the review, but it'll be interesting to see its infamous difficulty. The review might be done on Monday or Tuesday.

There are some Super Mario World hacks that are much harder than any of the official Mario games. If you're interested in seeing them, I can post some links to speedrun videos.

I did watch a few super mario maker videos before so I can see how hellish they are.

I had sleeping problems so I played the game again and actually beat it! One of the greatest achievements of my life. I'll do my best to finish the review today but I won't stress too much on it.

There's no way I'll finish today. My guess is sometime Sunday. Monday morning at the latest. I can confirm this so far: It will be 21-22 minutes long. This is easily my most ambitious work and I'm already very proud of it.

shaved almost 6 minutes off his PB? damn. I'm almost tempted to watch the whole thing... maybe in chunks, later.

I watched the first 10 minutes, I hate the dolphin level (no, actually, I hate all dolphin levels) but the snow level right after it is pretty great.

and by dolphin level I mean the not-underwater one. the underwater one, thalassophobia, is actually pretty nifty, I like that one.

You mention that you disappear when you get hit in Super Mario Bros. I don't remember this happening to me (but I played it a long time ago, so maybe I'm just forgetting).

I'm wondering if it might caused by your TV. Do you know what fps your TV is? If I remember correctly, Super Mario Bros. is 60 fps, so if your TV is only 30 fps, it could cause you to disappear.

I hope showing the footage of it was enough evidence. I used a capture card that's connected to my computer instead of a tv. It has multiple ways to connect to it, but for the NES and SNES I had no choice but to use the RGA connection. I noticed that for the newer consoles it records at 60 FPS, but it looks like something that's not HDMI only records at 30 fps (and only at 480i).

This might explain it, but the weird thing is that I didn't disappear in SMB3.

You say that you can't jump out of water in SMB3. To jump out of water, you just need to press up+A.

Edit: Never mind, I see that you realized this later.

You say that the frog costume lets you jump with more control. Actually the main advantage of the frog costume is that you can swim faster.

I think I might stop reviewing. I had some praise but no offense but it was people closer to me so there's some bias involved. My mother wanted to see it too. She's usually ecstatic when seeing them. This time she was a lot more monotanous when I asked how it was and she started it with a "well...". I posted it on the amateur game review subreddit as well, and all it got were downvotes. It's clear that I wasn't made for reviewing.

EDIT: Oh and I lost a subscriber too.

The reddit post says 67% upvotes.

I think it's not a bad review, but I think there's room for improvement (but it's probably better than I could've done).

Your videos will probably get better with more experience. You may want to look at other people's reviews for inspiration.

Have you considered streaming your gameplay on Twitch? Maybe you'll be able to find a bigger audience there.

Yea it changed after making the post, but my partner decided to upvote too so I guess that one doesn't count.

This is only my 12th review so of course I'm not the most experienced yet. I do tend to watch other reviews but tbh most aren't that good. There's one smb review that has 700k views but he only talks about his nostalgia for it. Some reviewers I really love and look up to are lgr, pushinguproses, and cannot be tamed. The main thing I want to do is provide a different approach to reviewing. Most look at each element seperately while I treat the experience as a whole. I'll only mention an element of it if it stands out in either a good or bad way.

I don't want to stream because I'm not a good gamer and it'll embarass me, and I lack the pizzazz to keep it entertaining throughout.

Thanks for the partial complement. Maybe it was just too early to do a review like this and I should have waited until I had more experience. Still, if you see my Harvester review you'll see how much I already improved.

It looks like the experience is already coming, at least in my text. I'm only a quarter into the next game but I already have enough rough notes to make around a 7.5-8 minute review, and this is without the intro, storyline, and concluding paragraphs. Who knows how it'll be when I finish the game. I think my editing is already decent, but maybe things will go more smoothly later on. I know the audio is just gonna take months and months of practice, but if you watch all the game reviewers, even the more professional ones like Brad Shoemaker, it took them time to master it too.

So as it turns out, someone watched the review by searching "video game review" on youtube. Someone else watched it by searching "mario bros". I'm actually starting to get into the common youtube algorithms. This is huge news.
