Threshold - For the journey

And some Belgian stuff... :)

Kings of Belgium - Unchained melodies

Three posts in a row since early December. Nobody buys anymore? :(

Today in the mail...

Eels - The cautionary tales of Mark Oliver Everett

Bruce Bherman - Untagged friends
Belgian singer-songwriter hardly anyone knows. I wonder if even Chilton knows him. I really like his style.

The five best cds I bought lately are (taking off the top of my head):

5. Lewis - L'amour
This is really hyped out there, right? It deserves to be

4. Brian Eno - Nerve Net/My Squelchy Life
This was a safe bet

3. von Spar - von Spar
Will I ever forget finding this on a local library?

2. Joe McPhee - Nation Time
Hallelujah!

1. Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth
Finally this masterpiece is in my collection

:yas:

I just received in the mail...

On vinyl and cd:
Hamster Axis of the one click panther & Mauro Pawlowski play the Peter Houben songbook - Insatiable

On cd:

Both Belgian obscure stuff. Mauro Pawlowski is part of dEUS, so he's a tiny bit famous.

I went music shopping today and got back home with several LPs and singles including this one that I picked up just "because I listened to it once or twice and remember I kinda liked it".

Image

And now I'm completely hooked on this group. It's surprisingly addictive. ^_^

I love the combination of theatrical scores with the extreme metal. The last few years I'm not often blown away by black metal, but when I am, it's mostly some original mixture of different things. I absolutely loved Phantom Ship, but thought Corpses wasn't as good as that one. I've listened to Fairytale twice now, so can't make a full analysis, but it sure is an album full of contrast and diversity. Loving it so far. :)

I had heard of them before, but never really checked them out because prog is far from being my favorite music genre. I listen to their last album 2-3 days ago and I'm glad I did because this is some really good stuff. Diversified enough without being all over the place. Reminded a little bit of Mantric as well.

Great!
It's not typical prog, so it shouldn't advertised like that. It's very diverse indeed, but every song makes sense. My favorite album so far is Coal.

I received "Slow-up", the first album of X-Legged Sally, in the mail today!! :woot:

Out of print for a very long time and the ones for sale online are pretty expensive most of the time. Finally managed to find one for a reasonable price.

Chilton, please share my enthusiasm, because the rest of the forum probably doesn't know this music.

For Dutchies...

This week I bought...

Image

I love the title: "Pater Moeskroen! Nooit van gehoord? Wel 'ns van geroken ja. Telt dat ook?"

This is really youth sentiment for me. I haven't heard some of these songs since I was 12. So many great classics like "Bea" (Bea van de bakker, daar lust ik wel brood van), "Oh oh" (Heb je ooit zo vals horen zingen?) en "Klontjes in de vla". I'm having a lot of fun with it and my kids love it as well.

In fairness there are legal means to listen to music even for free now (if you don't mind some restrictions) and you can always subscribe to remove those restrictions. I did use to buy quite a few CDs a few years ago, especially box-sets or special editions with booklets etc., but these days buying regular CDs is a poor investment unless you never intend to sell them. Same as with DVDs and blu-rays, only Criterions or special editions hold value, the generic editions will go for peanuts, in lots.

I know there are legal ways to listen to it digitally. I just prefer to buy a product. I enjoy music more that way.
I don't buy them with the intention to sell them later. Sometimes I sell some albums, because I'm not interested in them anymore, but that's mostly stuff from many years ago. I tend to be more selective nowadays. There was a time when I bought 20 cd's each month. Now it's about 20-30 cd's each year.

J-dog, you really ought to drastically cut back on your frenetic spending on music. Do you ever stop to consider how all this profligacy of yours will impact your kids?
