I was surprised to find that some of Charli XCX's music doesn't totally suck balls. Her Sucker album certainly lives up to its name (crap), but a lot of stuff on True Romance is really good. I haven't listened to Pop 2 yet, but your inclusion of it here is promising - I'll give it a listen!
Don't know if I'll listen to True Romance. I keep hearing that her music sucked until 2016. I was of course very sceptical of listening to her work, but everyone keeps saying how awesome Pop 2 is. Turns out they were right. The songwriting and structure is more interesting, the production is fantastic, and her flow is on fire. There are some top 40 flourishes which can be kind of annoying but I find that even for that style they were still somehow tolerable, probably for the reasons stated above. I see people calling this her experimental album, which I would disagree with. Art Pop? Maybe, but it's not weird.
The mixtape Number 1 Angel had some fantastic moments and incredible production, but there were still some top 40 crap in there.
Her EP Vroom Vroom was also a pleasant surprise. Now that one, I would call it experimental pop. Very surprised that a top 40 artist would make something that inaccessible. I would even say that there were moments where it's dark and disturbing. SOPHIE produced it too and everyone is going nuts over her work now, although I have some complaints about her newest album. Only complaint for this EP is that I don't like the high-pitched chorus in the song Vroom Vroom, but the rest of the song is great.
