The Tale of Iya has some support here already, glad to see another fan!
I was pleasantly surprised that it made its way into DtC.
Hopefully The Works and Days (of Tayoko Shiojiri in the Shiotani Basin) will see some distribution eventually, I think it might appeal to the same crowd (provided they're not put off by the runtime).
I'm working on the TSPDT 1000 list myself (172 to go for platinum). Just saw Platform about two weeks ago and really enjoyed it! I really have to watch more of Jia's films. Still life (2006) is one of my all-time favourites.
Hi, everyone. I'm an up-and-coming cinephile with roughly 2400 checks so far. I had been using Letterboxd for all of my film obsessing, but I heard good things about ICM and figured I would give it the old college try.
My long-term goals are completing the Criterion / Eclipse collection, completing the 1001 Films to See Before You Die list (including films from previous versions), and reaching 10,000 checks with at least 80% features.

Thanks. I have other hobbies, but I try to watch at least two films every day. I only got really serious about film last year, so my numbers aren't where they could be. I have friends in my age group who have seen exponentially more films than I have.

Thanks! I guess I should give some indicator of my taste in film. My top 10 changes frequently as I see more movies, but here's the current iteration:
01. Synecdoche, New York (2008, Charlie Kaufman)
02. Boyhood (2014, Richard Linklater)
03. Li'l Quinquin (2014, Bruno Dumont)
04. Magnolia (1999, Paul Thomas Anderson)
05. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968, Stanley Kubrick)
06. Taxi Driver (1976, Martin Scorsese)
07. American Pop (1981, Ralph Bakshi)
08. Blow Out (1981, Brian De Palma)
09. Natural Born Killers (1994, Oliver Stone)
10. julien donkey-boy (1999, Harmony Korine)
I just saw Bringing Out the Dead a few days ago and am considering placing it somewhere in the 7-10 range.

Hello!
I'm not too sure what this says about your taste in movies.. There's a couple here I'm not too familiar with, but, the ones I've seen are quite different. The closest thing I can gather, is you gravitate towards horror? If that's the case, you're not alone here.

Yeah, I am a big fan of the genre.

It may be that there are some forum old timers who still remember me. After being a regular on the form for -- what? -- six years or so(?), I drifted shamelessly for a while, and then when the forum took on a new home, I didn't have access. Some time ago Knaldskalle helped me find a way back, and at last in the midst of a quarantine I have reconnected. I think it's been at least four years? I've missed the company of so many of you, and I've gotten rather frightfully rusty with the world of cinephilia, but if any of you still remember me, drop me a hello!
I hear you have a new Russian list and I'm going to have to find the discussion for that!

OMG! It's Arthur. Just avoid the political threads. I've been way too active on there and it's become a toxic dump, but recently got a lot better. Glad to see you're back

Mr. Yanthar!!! How are you? All is well in the Arthurian realm???

And I'm not sure I'll be able to avoid the political threads, as it's such an all-consuming topic to me these days, but perhaps it's best that I do.
The most toxic user there got banned from the thread, mostly for misinformation regarding COVID so it became a lot quieter.

Again, best I missed that, as COVID misinformation is one thing that will trigger me instantly.

As well as can be expected in such strange times.
And sadly time has made me uncertain. Are you in the Baltics? Latvia? Or is my memory betraying me?
Welcome back - though I don't remember you personally (I joined with the IMDb influx 3 1/2 years ago) I see your name pop up all over the place, and if I'm not mistaken you and I share the birthday of Charles Bronson, Osamu Tezuka and Monica Vitti, among others. I am by the forum's standards excessively mainstream - I actually like some American films - and EXTREMELY uncritical - I actually like, even love, many films - so chances are you'll hate me or think I'm a simpering idiot, but that's ok, I'm used to it. As you can see I'm also excessively cheerful and positive about myself. Anyway welcome back!

Hello, Old Ale! I did at some point long ago make some sort of failed attempt to rejoin before the forum changed locations. However brief that was, I actually did get a chance then to get a quick (and positive) sense of you as a (then) new and major voice on the forum.
I suspect our affinity will extend beyond the natal, as the way you describe your cinematic sensibilities, we are probably quite similar.

Great to see you back, Local!!
Still several oldies are hanging on here. Some have gone as well, that's life. But sometimes old members pop back in, like kingink a little while ago.
Hey, joachimt! Glad to hear from you and that you're still one of the "oldies hanging on"! Some day I have to join you lot on one of these Malta events that I hear such praise for!
Great to see you again! I personally think the forum is a much more peaceful place nowadays. The political threads can be toxic but it's hard for political threads to ever be great place in any forum due to the divisive nature of politics. COVID-19 thread is quieter now and has improved hopefully. We are trying to be a bit better now in terms of moderation (not that we have to do much).
Most of the old regulars still post from time to time. I've always hoped you would come back too so it's great to see you again.

And one of those posts should be to post your list for the films on unofficial lists poll Would hate to lose your voice on that this time around.

Welcome back Local! Yes, there was discussion here and a poll on the other forum about the Russian list, and it's been a fairly non-controversial replacement (so far).

How much time do I have left?

I'm not exactly thrilled that the old Russian list was dropped just when I was closing in on completing it, but I'm hardly in a position to complain now, am I?
