It may be that there are some forum old timers who still remember me. After being a regular on the form for -- what? -- six years or so(?), I drifted shamelessly for a while, and then when the forum took on a new home, I didn't have access. Some time ago Knaldskalle helped me find a way back, and at last in the midst of a quarantine I have reconnected. I think it's been at least four years? I've missed the company of so many of you, and I've gotten rather frightfully rusty with the world of cinephilia, but if any of you still remember me, drop me a hello!
I hear you have a new Russian list and I'm going to have to find the discussion for that!
You should also post your list for the poll![]()
I'm not exactly thrilled that the old Russian list was dropped just when I was closing in on completing it, but I'm hardly in a position to complain now, am I?![]()

Ha ha! Yes, there are quite a lot of mediocrities on the LiveJournal list. That said the new list seems rather poppy -- sort of like an imdb250 for Russia. It would be nice to have a critics' choice list, IMO.AdamH wrote: ↑August 1st, 2020, 12:28 amFunnily enough, I went on the LiveJournal list after the blog post was sent out and the top comment is one from you saying it's a poor choice for an official list so I guess they finally listened to you 10 years and 4 months later!Local Hero -- aka MestnyiGeroi wrote: ↑July 31st, 2020, 11:22 pmHey, Fergenaprido! You are in the most exciting time of your film journey and it will be great hearing for you. It will also be interesting to see how your first love has affected your second love. Cinema was my first love (well, technically, not true, I loved books as a child) so when I come to novels I don't look for stories, but something more focused on form and expression (which I suppose is way Woolf is my favourite author so far, but I'm still a novice).

I have so many favorite novels. I'm not super picky on style or artistry but I have to admit, I couldn't get through the 50 Shades or Twilight junk so I am a bit of a snob about good writing. My favorite book of last year was Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. Many of my friends voted for The Nickel Boys over it though. If you like mysteries I've been really into Tana French lately. I love Deborah Levy, Ali Smith, Nadine Gordimer, Lisa See--oh there's too many to list and this is a film forum so I'd better stop.
Right you are! Audiovisual--it's just that I usually get yelled at when I'm looking down at my phone. So I'm still getting the audio part but missing the visual. Also hi and welcome
I used to fly through books when I was younger, mostly horror. But when I finally found the writer who appealed to me the most (Jeff Noon, Vurt was a revelation) other books started to pale in comparison, which was pretty much the end of that hobby. Still keep up with Noon's books though, vacation & reading is still bliss.
Hah! You sure are brave to admit that on a forum like this one :p
Noon isn't really horror ... it's urban fantasy/sci-fi I guess? Though it's really hard to compare it to something else (if anyone can recommend something similar, please do!)

I'm not familiar with Jeff Noon, but Charles de Lint writes urban fantasy, specifically his Newford series of books. It has it's dark moments, but I wouldn't consider them scary or horror, though.
