phishing PM

#1

Post by 3eyes » July 23rd, 2019, 4:09 pm

Anyone else get a phishing PM from Fanny Dobre? It was about something to get around Capcha, with link -- I deleted it.

I noticed one post from FannyDobre in a thread I was in, and it was strange because it was "her" first post and yet had a confident, somewhat contentious attitude.

I banned that user. Should've done it the first time around, but I'm just not into that routine yet. It seems we're big/old enough to start attracting spammers, so I'm sure I'll get better at it.

WTF is up with this stuff. They're all coming from quite different IPs too. Not really sure what I can do besides banning them, I'm pretty sure they're actual people paid to spam rather than bots.

I think scfz had a similar type of attack too. I forgot what their solution was though and am having trouble finding it.

Really freaked out when I read the thread title as I expected the worst, but the post itself is hilarious. Saving it for posterity.

Oh my they just get more interesting too. What the hell is "less porn" and why spam something like that? Anna porn seems quite specific. www porn is confusing. There's elder porn too, quite the variety. Family therapy porn seems like a very small niche. I wonder what rule porn is too. Is fuller porn porn made by Sam Fuller?

I bet a Sam Fuller porn would be full of rough sex. Everyday people. Stark lighting.

Also are there any normal guys here? There seems to be too many perverts and just dumb men. I like strong intellectuals.

There were two dozen other unactivated accounts. I've disabled registration for now. If they return after I reenable it I'll try to think of some other solution.

If you mean legitimate users registering, I doubt it. There's only one that might possibly be legit, I've left them for now. Everyone else had incomprehensible emails that were obviously autogenerated or other signs of not being legit.

sounds like they have to go to even greater lengths to generate clickbait that gets clicks?

Gaaah! I've actually made some progress but they're still going. I really don't want to spend time on this :(
Registrations are still open though. Might turn them off when I go to sleep, though.
If anyone gets through report the post, any mod can delete the thread and ban the user.

Edit: I tried something, let's see if it works.

Seems like it did. My assumption had been that this was 10% human 90% bot, but it was actually more like 0.1% human 99.9% bot and I found the correct little tweak to make. Will add this to the list of things to work on when I get around to working on the forum in a couple of weeks.
