Not sure about the latter part of the video, but he does raise a fair point about empathy & politics. While it has its worth in the assessment phase, it should be kept out of the decision-making phase as much as possible. Not in the least because empathy tends to be extremely selective.

Thought this screenshot was too crazy not to post. Imagine going back in time and showing this to somebody.

Nobody likes me, I wonder why.
How can they think I'm so bad?
Nobody wants me, I'm gonna cry.
All that fake news makes me mad!
For every death that's blamed on me I tweet, "Forget it!
I'M THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS, GET IT???"
Of course you like me, say that you do
Or else I'll sue!

Also seems to be following the template of most modern-day propaganda docs I've seen. Layman investigations that end up hitting great and important truths.

If I'm reading that right, about 1 in 4 Republicans don't think that democracy is good or very good.

I am more worried by how 15-20 percent of Democrats, Republican and Independents think it is good to have a military dictatorship.
Also interesting that only 5-10% Democrats disapprove of Democracy, 20% of Republicans disapprove of Democracy, but the same number of both love military dictatorships.

Depends on what they mean by democracy. If it's the US kind, I'd vote against too.

I find polls like that tend to be misleading with ambiguous questions. Like does 'strong leader' = Putin? Or could it not equally apply to Merkel? Is it an either/or between being governed by a strong leader and governed by experts? In an idealised version of US system you have a strong leader (President) but with the checks & balances by the other branches of government (in theory, experts at law/lawmaking).

Yes, all true, every term is open to extreme interpretation. I.e. does strong leader mean "strong man", i.e. dictator or semi-dictator, or a competent leader. The army governing is the least open to interpretation though, and the stats there are clear.
Also, the question is simply "are good", so some of them might just think there could be merit in "army government". Without the exact question and motivations of individual respondents, stats like these mean very little.

According to the article, "Strong leader" is defined as someone “who does not have to bother with Congress and elections”. So much more Putin than Merkel.

The best solution for the defund the police and BLM movement is to have a tough on crime team vs fascists. Can a communist revolution please happen?

Sure, pick the candidate who had to drop out because enthusiasm for her vanished along with donations... Or maybe they just weren't sure they'd be able to carry California without her?

agreed - though maybe Biden's going for the moderate Republican vote and Never-Trumpers.
Last week, BLM/Portland was calling for supporters to write in a Black woman for president though I've not heard an actual name put forth.
Biden was already at risk of losing the Bernie Brats (Bros is too sexist for me) - I don't see how this is going to excite the BLM crowd. I can't say how "average" Black voters will react, but I'm guessing Kanye just doubled in the polls.
Why are dems so bad at choosing running mates? Case in point - Biden

The question the campaign really needs to ask itself, though, is if they think they can win if the left wing stays home like in 2016. I would not be surprised if the backlash to the choice of Kamala is such that we face the 2016 all over again.

yeah - honestly, I'm fighting back tears right now (mostly because my body's all screwed up due to illness and I'm waiting on test results that should have been back by now). Granted, we've survived this long with this mess, but it's just one fucking thing after another. Needless to say, I'm upset that they're now planning (or at least talking about) not allowing Americans to return to the country if they might have been exposed to CoV-19. Quarantine arrivals. I can accept that. But this sounds like another move against American of Hispanic/Latino origin, not to mention Middle Eastern, South Asian, etc.Knaldskalle wrote: ↑August 11th, 2020, 10:22 pmThe question the campaign really needs to ask itself, though, is if they think they can win if the left wing stays home like in 2016. Before today I had no doubt how I would vote in November even though I am no fan of Biden. I believe before I left this thread (was it a year ago?) I made that pretty clear. Now I'm not so sure. I'm not even sure how much impact this will have on our electors. Oregon was and probably will remain safe Biden, but I'm not so certain, especially if BLM comes out strongly against. I just don't believe this will win the hard left over.
I keep wondering: how will this play in battleground states?
I need to think about other things - I feel asleep during the final episode of GoT last night, so I need to go back to King's Landing to see how things turn out. King's Landing post dragon attack seems more inviting right now.

Maybe they figure they win more in the center than the lose on the left? Who knows? It's certainly not a move I would've made, picking Kamala strikes me as pepper spraying the left. I wouldn't be surprised if the Biden Campaign will go "but she's black!" to any criticism from the left about her politics. We'll see, I'm sure they'll blame the left again if Trump wins.xianjiro wrote: ↑August 11th, 2020, 10:37 pmyeah - honestly, I'm fighting back tears right now (mostly because my body's all screwed up due to illness and I'm waiting on test results that should have been back by now). I'm intentionally NOT providing attribution to protect the guilty.
JC! While I don't necessarily think of myself as 'old', I do know the fucking difference!
Anyway, I'm still reading to see what the spin is and how others are reacting: both are telling. I'm also curious what happens on Wall Street tomorrow. Chances are (and while I don't believe this will happen) if the upward trend falls off, then they're more concerned now that Biden's a serious threat to their largess.

It also looks like Omar will be on the November ballot - I'm glad all four "Squad" members will be well-positioned to return to the next Congress, but I have to say calling them the most progressive representatives in the House chaps my hide. Blumenauer and DeFazio have been fighting these fights for years (decades for DeFazio). I'm sure there are plenty of other die-hard progressives in the House from other states as well, but that doesn't seem to make as good click-bait.
