Republican and Democratic bases have near identical support for trump and biden, respectively. independents support trump by a not-negligible margin. trump almost has significantly more enthusiasm among his base than biden does. all this even with an impeachment and one of the worst catastrophes any president has endured while in office in modern history.

nice job, democrats.

DSA endorsement comes with its ground game and resources.

24% of the organization even voted against endorsing Sanders, arguing that their resources should be used elsewhere.

(And I really really hope that, if Biden loses, the case is made candidates like Sanders work as acceptable COMPROMISE candidates for a section of the left, who will simply not endorse or even vote for anyone as far right as Biden - thus making it clear that they need to make compromises for this section of voters if they ever want to win again)

Democrats flipped the Wisconsin Supreme Court seat: Judge Jill Karofsky won and beat the Republican incumbent  She will start serving later this year (August iirc). Now it's going to be 4 Republicans and 3 Democrats instead of 5-2.

I'm honestly torn. The democratic party needs to be completely reshaped, and quick. And that won't happen if Biden wins. But if Trump gets re-elected, the SC is fucked for the rest of my lifetime, and who knows what other decades-long damage he can do with another 4 years. It's lose-lose.

I have never before dipped into this threat, but I thought I would do so now to mention that for the past several months, I've been writing criticism of the Times on twitter as a hobby. Check it out. Although really, I've been criticizing the Times for years to friends and in the paper's own comments section. This twitter account is a stupid waste of my time, yet I feel compelled to keep commenting because the Times keeps getting worse.

Anyway, the Times has reached a new low over the past month, first in its Coronavirus coverage, which I am convinced has gotten people killed. And now in its coverage of this accusation against Biden. For the record, I'm not making any judgment about the accusation itself but rather how the Times has covered it. And to understand that, it's worth reading this interview with the Times editor-in-chief that was published yesterday. It's the most extraordinary self-indictment I've ever read from a journalist. It almost reads as a confession to malpractice, though it's clear the editor is completely unaware of how badly he has messed up.

Cringeworthy reading. I lost all respect for the Times after the Charlie Hebdo attack:

If people are allowed to vote by mail, I believe Biden will win and it won't even be close. If that doesn't happen, I worry about the outcome. The Trump crazies will get out and vote. They give no fucks about their own safety or anyone else's. As a major Bernie supporter but also someone who believes in voting blue no matter what, I plan to spend the next six months trying to convince friends that while Biden is a deeply flawed candidate, putting the Democrats back in power is the only way to potentially salvage our nation. If we're going to have an accused sexual predator as a president, it makes sense to at least have one whose power would at least enable good people who want to make a difference. Also, if Trump wins re-election, he will inevitably get to replace RBG, and then the Supreme Court is permanently fucked.

Other sources may be correct up to a point, increased voter turnout favors Democrats. But there are also structural problems with the V-B-M system, e.g. 22 % of the ballots are discarded. So you would have to over-win if you were Biden.

Trump loses popular vote. Trump doesn't get majority of EC votes. The house of representatives' state delegations elects Trump. This would be hilarious, make it happen simulation God.

From the BBC:
Trump notes the coronavirus emerged in the middle of his trade war with China, arguing no one has been tougher on China than him.

"And all of a sudden out of nowhere comes the invisible enemy," he says, referring to the pandemic.

He also told reporters: "We think we know where it [coronavirus] came from. We'll be talking about that, probably a lot."

Is there a way to get Cuomo into the race? He comes across to me as compassionate, open-minded and common-sensical. Surely he's better than the 2 marginally pre-senile candidates front running.
