https://www.gq.com/story/trump-has-badger-questions

After Trump was reminded that the short-legged omnivore was practically synonymous with the Badger State, he'd make a point of bringing it up at seemingly random occasions to his beleaguered chief of staff. "Are they mean to people?" Trump at least twice asked Priebus in the opening months of his presidency. "Or are they friendly creatures?" The president would also ask if Priebus had any photos of badgers he could show him, and if Priebus could carefully explain to him how badgers "work" exactly.

He wanted Reince—resident White House badger historian, apparently—to explain to him Wisconsin's obsession with the animal, how the little critters function and behave, what kind of food they like, and how aggressive or deadly they could be when presented with perceived existential threats. Trump also wanted to know if the badger had a "personality" or if it was boring. What kind of damage could a badger to do a person with its flashy, sharp claws? An obviously enthralled president would stare at Priebus as the aide struggled for sufficiently placating answers, all the while trying to gently veer the conversation back to whether we were going to do a troop surge in Afghanistan or strip millions of Americans of healthcare coverage.
More proof of great leadership and Genius Level Smartness!

Interesting connection here - I've never read the book and don't remember the film that well so I wouldn't have gotten it

One big difference between story and reality is that Trump actually could

use a child as a human shield without derailing his political career. And if it was a black, hispanic or Muslim child it would actually help him.

Just get rid of the useless tipping system and get these people a normal wage.

Umm, this is America. Tipping as is normal as using up your life savings for healthcare, caring more about college sports than education, and voting for people who speak like third-graders. No thank you!

I assume their reasoning for this is that they want quality service to be of the utmost importance, so the employees have to "prove" themselves by being completely dependent on tips. It's such a broken system because it's more dependent on the customers instead of the employees ie flirting back when the drunk flirts with the bartender which will result with a bigger tip.

It really is a capitalist hellscape there.

I always want quality service, so why just make an exception for waiting tables? I guess there's some kind of tradition behind it?

According to Wiki tipping began in Tudor England, so 500 years ago or so. As to why it's the thing in the USA, I'd hazard a guess that it has a lot to do with the fact that a great many of the people who work in tip professions - waitstaff & busboys, barbers & hair stylists, taxi drivers, hotel staff - are or have traditionally been women or minorities, and the owners of the businesses and their business organizations and trade groups didn't want to pay as much for those jobs as they would to white men, especially more educated or middle/upper-class white men. And in a certain way it's a demeaning thing - you have to sort of beg for your tips, for your living, which also appeals to the capitalists.

Bloomberg is trying to buy out the Clinton’s who really control the Democrats by offering Hillary to be VP. If he feels too old at the conference he could reverse the roles and give her his delegates.

Bloomberg qualifies for 9th debate. He joins Buttigieg, Sanders, Warren, Klobuchar and Biden. They have all qualified for the 10th debate as well.

Steyer & Gabbard creates the last kids table.

Gabbard should drop out and back Sanders ASAP, she still gets notable percentages in certain polls, and it would not be insignificant - while she has no part herself. (and of course she is almost a shoe-in for a cabinet post).

Steyer should stey ( :whistling:) as the more votes he gets the worse the right wingers will do.

Bloomberg now leads in a third Super Tuesday state. (Many states lacks polling so Bloomberg could be leading in more states)

I'm so tired of the Dems' infighting that I've stopped paying attention. I'll vote for whoever, but I don't think they have a prayer no matter whom they nominate.

Meanwhile, will the Blob pardon Netanyahu? The Onion will tell.

Remember when Biden was the biggest concern? He seems like a godsend now compared to Buttigieg and especially Bloomberg.

I'd rank them Butti>Biden>>>>Bloomer

But then again, I think there's a good chance both Biden and Bloomberg are one-term presidents who bow out and don't run for re-election bc of their age. Pete would be there 2 terms and could do more damage as a result. Had Mikey not thrown his hat in the race, then Bernie would have this things locked up. US politics during my lifetime has been a lot of putting ice cream in front of the dog and snatching it away at the last minute.

We are all still talking as if there's a chance that the führer won't still be in office come next January. Don't know if it will be more sad or funny when we look back on this. I'm leaning towards funny, the way Sátángangó is funny.

Exactly Oldale. Sebby come on you know Trump will win anyway, no Democrats can beat him. There is also no way the Americans will vote Sanders in as President.

After Trump I imagine Republicans going for some religious evangelical. Then Democrats would have a chance. But need to find a decent younger candidate, under 70 at any rate.

Hilary, who couldn't get anyone out to vote, beat him by 3 millions votes. Bernie is outpolling him and will drum out the young and independent voters. Trump has no chance against him.

Without cheating and voter suppression and a judiciary in his back pocket, you would be right. And let's not forget an extraordinarily uneducated and, even now, uninterested electorate. Sorry to be Debbie downer, but I think Trump is "President" until he dies.
