can't say the combo of Beyond meat, pb, jelly, etc looks at all appetizing. I think I'd rather eat a handful of grass, lol.

Does this film have any connection to the book by Matt Scully? I used that for a research paper I wrote about 20 years ago... prob check out the doc soon.

Rock on, Laki. I'd say with your BMI of less than 19 make sure you focus on a lot of calorie-dense, protein options (e.g. nuts, seeds, peanuts, etc.) and dont' skimp on healthy fats. I had previous problems keeping wieght on when I was younger and went veg (and then vegan), but middle age and my slowing metabolism seem to have helped in that dept.

meat eater but partially because i felt pressure to eat meat when i didn't want to do, but given there was talk about not us eating healthy enough, i have already said that this is what i'm going to change, and that i'll skip evening meals too (so it will be intermittent fasting too).

I don't like meat replacers, so i'm probably not going to eat meats and that kind of stuff, just vegetables and lots of pasta and salads

No. It's an update of Earthlings, so unless you're an animal rights or docu completionist (which is all me), there's no reason to watch both of those, or any for that matter, although all conformists should watch at least one.

Thanks. Haven't seen Earthlings, but I've seen several other docs on the subject (most recently Land of Hope and Glory), so I'll check Dominion. It's easy to find anyway...

a bunch of OG quotes

Do not unjustly eat fish the water has given up,
And do not desire as food the flesh of slaughtered animals,
Or the white milk of mothers who intended its pure draught
for their young, not noble ladies.
And do not grieve the unsuspecting birds by taking eggs;
for injustice is the worst of crimes.
And spare the honey which the bees get industriously
from the flowers of fragrant plants;
For they did not store it that it might belong to others,
Nor did they gather it for bounty and gifts.
I washed my hands of all this; and wish that I
Perceived my way before my hair went gray!
Abul ʿAla Al-Maʿarri

Europeans are awakening more and more to a sense that beasts have rights, in proportion as the strange notion is being gradually overcome and outgrown, that the animal kingdom came into existence solely for the benefit and pleasure of man. This view, with the corollary that non-human living creatures are to be regarded merely as things, is at the root of the rough and altogether reckless treatment of them, which obtains in the West.

It is asserted that beasts have no rights; the illusion is harboured that our conduct, so far as they are concerned, has no moral significance, or, as it is put in the language of these codes, that "there are no duties to be fulfilled towards animals." Such a view is one of revolting coarseness, a barbarism of the West, whose source is Judaism. In philosophy, however, it rests on the assumption, despite all evidence to the contrary, of the radical difference between man and beast,—a doctrine which, as is well known, was proclaimed with more trenchant emphasis by Descartes than by any one else: it was indeed the necessary consequence of his mistakes.
Arthur Schopenhauer, On the Basis of Morality

The butchering of harmless animals cannot fail to produce much of that spirit of insane and hideous exultation in which news of a victory is related altho' purchased by the massacre of a hundred thousand men.
If the use of animal food be, in consequence, subversive to the peace of human society, how unwarrantable is the injustice and barbarity which is exercised toward these miserable victims. They are called into existence by human artifice that they may drag out a short and miserable existence of slavery and disease, that their bodies may be mutilated, their social feelings outraged. It were much better that a sentient being should never have existed, than that it should have existed only to endure unmitigated misery.
Percy Bysshe Shelley

My mom emailed me an article about this the other day, rock and roll. Hopefully it's the tip of a larger trend...
