Just stopped in to ask: Have any of you observed cats beating time to music? I have, twice: One with his tail, the other (a Manx) with her paws.

I'd be more impressed if the Manx was beating time with its tail.

Actually, no, I don't think I've seen that. It doesn't seem inconceivable to me that a cat might move its tail in sync with vibrations, but are you sure it wasn't coincidence?

The one cat was beating its tail in time while its owner was playing the guitar. I pointed this out, so he gradually sped up the tempo and the cat kept pace until the music got too fast and then dropped back to every other beat.

The Manx was on a sofa facing the back; a jazz record was playing and it was definitely pushing on the sofa back with alternate paws in time.

I'm more of a dog person and have never noticed a dog doing anything like this. My babies, on the other hand....

With my moving to Mexico, I had to leave old grumpy Gato behind. :( I had had him for almost 4 years. I found a nice family (two kids) for him though, and he seemed happy enough with them.

Now I'm thinking of getting a new one, maybe a kitten. I've only had males (Oscar W., Mefistofeles, Faust and Gato, all fabulous names thank you very much), but now I'm considering getting a female.

Whatcha say? Are those girly felines worth it?

Why did you have to leave your cat? Is there some custom issue?

Well, for one, he's not as young as he used to be, and I thought he'd take more easily the stress of a new home than that of a 23 hours flight and a new home. And then, yes, there's also the customs issue. Gato doesn't have papers, so it would have been a very long and expensive process to buy him a ticket.

My dear sweet whackjob is frustratingly clever. After food, meowing louder than any cat should be able to, and attempting to break into our bedroom every morning about an hour earlier than either my wife or I want to wake up, her two favorite things are:

1. Pipe cleaners
2. Playing fetch

[Yes, my cat is better at fetch than either of my two dogs, but that's a different story.]

So Roary and I play fetch regularly with her pipe cleaners. Which is adorably cute. The frustrating part is that she somehow figured out that if she soaks her pipe cleaners in the water dish she shares with the two dogs and then brings it to me, it goes a lot farther when I throw it. Which is more fun. The dogs hate it, but the cat loves it and is too cute and adorable to ignore, so she gets away with it.

And since I'm pretty sure it's illegal to talk about your cat on the internet without sharing a picture of your cat, here's a picture of Roary experiencing Stockholm Syndrome because I comforted her and protected her from the evil dog that barked a couple rooms away while we were at the vet for her checkup.

Why not just let her in at night? Though, when my cat sleeps with me I need to open some doors for her sometimes anyway, at weird times. And she will scratch them until I do it.

Aaaaaaand hello, they have somewhat similar faces, don't they?
