Humongous Van Aert
beats top pure sprinters
He and VDP never cease to one-up each other!

still no repeat winners, but already the low countries have 3 apiece!

We probably won't see VDP next year as he'll be gunning for the Olympics, but he'll be attacking TDF 2021 like a madman. Good times ahead.
Also amazing win for Van Aert today. He's usually a very down to earth guy, but he was beyond ecstatic when he heard the confirmation that he'd won the race. Not bad in one of the cleanest sprints so far, with most of the big names present.

Exciting cross wind stage that was very decisive for GC. Pinot now very unlikely to win since he dropped over 1m, 30s. G to strengthen advantage over rivals in ITT. Ineos to control remaining mountain stages.

He couldn't demolish De Gendt, then took too much risk and crashed. Season over, it seems. Hopefully no long term damage there :(

De Gendt is even more of a favorite for me but since I didn't expect him to do anything here (lesson learned) I didn't mention him.

Of all Belgian cyclists I like Van Aert the least tbf. Hope the injury is not too bad.

VDP has way more potential than Van Aert as well. I can see him winning a lot of classics. Not sure what kind of rider he'll be in TDF tho.

G/Bernal, Pinot and Kruiswijk should attack 100 % tomorrow on Col de l'Iseran if they want to win Tour de France. But will they? Still 6 riders who can realistically win TDF if they have the best legs on stage 19/20 ... Exciting!

Even crazier that, if we assume Alaphilippe eventually falters (growing less sure of that every day but I'd still bet on it at the moment), you have the 4 main contenders in 20 seconds. That's crazy close.

Is this because of a heatwave? It's this early into the climate debacle, and here's what's going on?

That's even better! Short mountain stages FTW. But there's no suspense as to the winner. Only the podium.

Not sure today's stage will continue. They will start for sure in Albertville and see how the situation on the finish line evolves; right now it looks like the apocalypse over there.

Always a pleasure when the best tempo-rider don't win a Grand Tour. Congrats to Bernal for winning GC! Noteworthy that he didn't win a single stage, or finished top 3 on any stage. Bardet wins KoM, despite being a shadow of his former self in the mountains.

Love that it is not a time trial expert that wins the tour. Really good job bu the organisator to craft such an interesting route with only 1 ITT.
Expected more from this stage, Kruiswijk and Thomas took their podium place and didn't try for more (or couldn't).

I think it was a case of couldn't. I do think Bernal would have won the stage yesterday.
Nibali showed some fight for the stage win, but in all not an epic finish.
Bernal could go after the most tour wins records; at 22 now he could already reach 5 wins when most GC riders about reach their prime.

The guy is a monster for sure. He also has 3 more chances for a white jersey excluding the one this year.
