Contador would have attacked ....

The CG-contenders didn't even try to challenge TJV.

I miss Contador, very boring stage.

Astana really sucks at tactics. They saved Roglic. Awesome stage though.

While I understand the disappointment, their tactics seem sound to me?
They want to have a shot at the podium, if they hadn't led the chase their chances for a podium would have been greatly diminished.

Word is, it's the fastest stage >200km ever and with that profile

Riders arrived in 7 groups with 27 in group 1
Just 13 riders in group 2/peloton not counting a few of those who peeled off and got time loss
Roglic's teammates dangerously nowhere to be seen with 2 in the 19 minute group. One mechanical and it's over.
Group 3 was already 16 minutes down
Edet and Pernsteiner lost 23 minutes (group 5) and crashed out of top 10
Knox is now 8th on GC after being as low as 28th 10 stages earlier
Last group arrived 33 minutes down

Quintana is killing those breakaways. One more to win the Vuelta? That'd be one for the ages.

Roglic was completely isolated. Yet, Astana put 0 % pressure on him to help with the chase. #4 took all the responsibility while top 3 just had to "chill".

While it would've been a master move to separate half the Astana team together with López from Roglic, that doesn't sound like a very likely scenario, especially looking at the profile of today's stage. Unless they tried that earlier, when the break was suddenly jumping from a 4 to 6 minutes gap, sadly no live footage of that part of the race.

3 mountain victories...that's a repeat of Joaquim's 2012 where he also got 3rd in GC

James Knox missed out on the top 10 by 20 seconds after losing 11 minutes today...
9 10 ▲1 SOLER Marc Movistar Team 22:27
10 11 ▲1 NIEVE Mikel Mitchelton-Scott 22:34
11 9 ▼2 KNOX James Deceuninck - Quick Step 22:55
