But ... Venezuela ...

(They locked up the front runner for president, over a minor bribery charge, did not allow him to speak to the press for months, and seemingly no-one but a select few batted an eye-lid. So yeah, I am shocked this actually came out - but I doubt anything will happen. A Fascist is President, and America, as usual, is very, very happy about that).

Huge news coming from Brazil: an investigation with audio leaks (reported by Glenn Greenwald) is showing that the whole process that led to Lula's imprisonment was politically motivated and included collusion beetween judge Moro and the prosecutors (this imprisonment made Bolsonaro's election possible since Lula was the favorite to win, and judge Moro was named Minister of Justice by Bolsonaro). What was obvious from the begining is now confirmed. Another blow to the corrupt right in Latin America (not to mention they're failing in every south american nation in which they have power now).
I rate this story:

Nicolas Sarkozy set to become the first French president to be tried for corruption linked to his time in office after losing final bid to have the case thrown out

Sarkozy, 64, is alleged to have bribed a judge for classified papers in 2014
The judge had information about a criminal investigation into Sarkozy
He was said to have accepted bribes from L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt
The former premier will stand trial within months and faces ten years in prison .

I seem to remember Sarkozy's mistress being involved in a scandal that also involved Jacques Chirac somehow...? Is my memory failing me or am I mixing up French corruption scandals? There was something about her having received absurdly expensive shoes, this was some 15-20 years ago?

I voted PVDA-PTB (marxist party) three times in may. Far-right and far-left won the elections a month ago. Greens and traditional parties lost them. It was called a black sunday for democracy lol. The far-left made an absolute breakthrough, and yes they might be a bit communist but hey i'm a communist as well. The internet and the library are communist ideas....

Apparently my generation doesn't like traditional parties, and they are the generation which is the most in support of both far-right and far-left and we have almost 85-90% turn-out.

That is typical of the left . Everyone on the right is a nazi. No that is ridiculous. Trumps policies are moderate and sensible but on economics he is too much in the centre.

"Moderate Party" from Sweden advocates generous migration policy as catalyst to deconstruct the welfare state and suppress wages. And commodifying and privatizing everything in sight, also abolishing several taxes on high-income etc. They also think it makes sense for taxpayers to fund capitalist profits in education. And are obsessed with law & order. Yes. very sensible middle-of-the-road folks.

Huh. So in one post you say it's ridiculous to suggest that everyone on the right is a nazi, but then in your very next post, you literally say that everyone on the left is a communist.

Are there neo Nazis in Germany, if so they are a small minority. This description does not apply to the AfD who have sensible nationalist conservative policies not insane national socialist ones. As far as I know, or am I wrong.

I see Mugabe died. MSM say he was of questionable character but even have some quotations praising him. They don’t mention the main reason his policies were disastrous was not just due to corruption oh no, it was because he was a socialist and socialism always leads to failure poverty and suffering. But the MSM don’t mention that, they wouldn’t would they?

Feeling hopeful about this election now. Even if the conservatives win, it's ok if they don't get majority. There seems to be 4 major parties here, with 3 being in the left. If the conservatives win minority then the left still has the majority which means the country will still be stable.

I don't have to do strategic voting in my area either because it turns out that none of it matters. Since the beginning the liberals always DESTROY the election in my area, so I can vote for my most compatible ideals instead. The question is if I should vote for NDP or Communist.

NDP for sure. I’m all for remedying the injustice of capitalism, but I think the NDP are functionally better for a left agenda in a time when a post-capitalist society is implausible in Canada in the short-term.

Only turn off right now for the communist party of Canada is that they don't have an election platform yet. A pretty big turn off tbh. Their 2015 election platform however was practically perfect. NDP doesn't seem perfect. They are pledging to invest hundreds of millions into automobile corporations even though they are laying off so many people. I actually do agree with the communists that a lot of industries should be heavily regulated, or maybe even nationalized. That way it will concern the interest of the people as opposed of doing evil things and loopholes to make more short-term profits.

I also think that far left parties support small businesses more than the right does, even if that's one of the major talking points of the right. They always talk about taxes being increased for businesses, but what they fail to add is that the tax raise is for caps for large businesses. Many small businesses pay very little to nothing, especially if they make less than $400K here. Capitalism can work in theory, but only if it's a perfect competition. Without that, and without heavy regulations, large corporations will eventually become a capitalist monopoly. When that happens, they can do whatever the hell they want and no one can do anything about it. Since it's capitalist, they will obviously do whatever gives them the most short-term profits.

I know I'm qualified to talk about stuff like this as I was an accountant and dealt with taxes for small businesses, and I took economics classes.

I’m not sure that capitalism can work properly, even in theory. People are not rational actors, nor do they have perfect information. Capitalism will always gradually deteriorate towards a monopolistic mess filled with externalities.
