Well, it's still a nice guess! It's no dealbreaker film for me...I'll still associate with you (whether that's a good thing or not, I'll leave you to determine, ha ha). Say you hate Ugetsu, though, and the gloves will come off.funkybusiness on Sep 18 2013, 07:50:10 PM wrote:I opposite of love that film?burneyfan on Sep 18 2013, 07:49:31 PM wrote:Oh, nice guess...I love that film.funkybusiness on Sep 18 2013, 07:43:27 PM wrote:Odds Against Tomorrow?![]()

Expression One: How to cut a rug.
Impression One: A deceiving pulse.
Expression Two: A woman, his woman, left on a bed.
Impression Two: Salt seeps from the earth. All luck.

Cryptic!
I don't know. Each line makes me think vaguely of possibilities, but no one film I can think of yet pulls the clues together.
The expression-impression alternation makes me think either someone making facial expressions or sending messages, and someone else receiving and responding. Or it makes me think of expressionism and impressionism.
No idea. But I'll just randomly throw out Satantango.

Not Satantango.
The reception/response is the right angle, but mostly interpretation. It's a film that requires some interpretation.
Clue two: Everybody was kung-fu fighting. Well, not quite kung-fu. and not quite fighting. But those outfits!

Clue three: A loose adaptation. Alex is in it. I don't think it's gay at all.

My father didn’t have the skill of a professional cameraman. The result? Avant-garde cinema.

Me then? Alright.
Clue 1: A prequel often thought of as a sequel embeds itself more into the stylistic tradition its creators originally imagined while garnering almost no praise in the process. Mini-clue: Also seen as racist.

Have you seen Godard's Le petit soldat? The main character from that is a character in Beau travail. Both played by the same actor, Michel Subor.Local Hero -- aka MestnyiGeroi on Nov 3 2013, 07:00:36 PM wrote:Thank you! Temple of Doom is in fact a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark, not a sequel as people seem to think. The original idea for the Indiana Jones series was to make a film version of pulp action stories from the 30s and 40s, very unrealistic, over the top, caricaturistic, and well, pulpy. I think the second film is more successful in that regard than the first (even if they are Nazis in RotLA!). and don't get me started on how shitty that Sean Connery one is. blech.
Which means it's my turn... Argh....
