This one looks interesting, sol ^
Maybe I'll try to catch it before the end of the month, so the post below is not my only entry here...
1. All the Devils Are Here (Bahamas, 2014) 6
It was interesting, though quite derived The strongest aspect for me was probably the soundtrack. Both songs and the synth score were great... the acting was hit or miss. e.g. the guy who played the nerdy character might have a pretty short career.flavo5000 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2020, 8:04 pm
To be honest, I think you could do better if you're looking for a genre film this month. I mean, Atrapados is a little offbeat and unusual, but I found The Caller much more satisfying (answering the long-asked question of what if Frequency was a horror movie).
Atrapados appeals to me partly because it seems gritty/bleak/realistic and partly because of the transformation that I read one of the leads goes through over the course of the film.sol wrote: ↑December 15th, 2020, 10:43 amTo be honest, I think you could do better if you're looking for a genre film this month. Also apparently - according to iCM - you haven't seen Juan of the Dead yet.
Same actually... I'm down to one film a day and it will probably remain that way for the rest of the week. I know that doesn't sound all that busy, but for someone who averages 2 or 3 films a day and has only gone one day this year with no movie watches, this final week of term feels jam-packed.
Oh, I wouldn't say I really liked it or anything. Just in comparison to Sex & Black Magic it wasn't AS boring. The whole first half of the movie is pretty dull.sol wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 3:04 pm23. The Body (1974) Trinidad and Tobago

This noirish thriller boasts some great Caribbean scenery and there are several very intense moments as the employer seems on the verge of discovering the plot against him. For the most part though, this is a poorly paced affair. It is almost halfway in before the murder plot is suggested and even once suggested, it comes with little sense of urgency/necessity. Yes, the ending is memorably stupid/over-the-top, but I don't think I liked this as much as flavo.
Oops. Need to stop skimming over reviews of films that I haven't seen. By the way, you're on 19 points, not 18.
