Weird that this isn't even in the TSPDT 1001-2000 list
I'm delighted that so many people are seeking out Indagine this month. I'd like to think that my choice to use a screenshot from the film in the OP is part of the reason why, but then again, I don't think anyone watched The Face of Another when I hosted Japan last year.

Some of the humour is too goofy and slapstick for its own good, but there is generally a lot of fun to be had here as Ugo Gregoretti pokes fun at how our bodies work and aspects of society that we take for granted. The middle section is bogged down with worker/union politics, but the final third of the film is its funniest as the alien body snatcher protagonist tries to get himself killed. The whole project is voyeuristically shot by the wonderful Carlo Di Palma too.
I found this to be a lot of fun and I'm glad someone else here has gotten around to watching it.

An X-rated animated comedy with some truly wacky and surreal images that bring to mind Ralph Bakshi, including a snake charmer making a certain part of the protagonist's body wriggle and grow, plus some really oddball acrobatic acts. The screenshot above is pretty much the only non-NSFW image that I could find. The humour is a little hit-and-miss though, and the fairytale narration also sometimes comes across as odd, but this is at least daringly different stuff.

6. The Grand Duel (aka The Big Showdown) (Il Grande Duello; Santini, 1972). I bought this as part of a double feature blu-ray (the other feature being Keoma) for $2. Pretty good for the price, if you ask me. This is the second time I've seen it and I liked it better than I did the first time. It's still not great (too many movie cliches for starters), but it has a certain charm to it.

5. Blindman (Baldi, 1971)
6. The Grand Duel (aka The Big Showdown) (Il Grande Duello; Santini, 1972)

Hi, morrison! As far as 80s Gialli go, it has more visual flair than most, particularly during the first (and much better) half, a very adequate score by Armando Trovajoli, some suspenseful sequences well-built and sustained by Vanzina (an apartment attack, the highlight), and an hypnotic presence in Carole Bouquet (one of the film's English titles, 'Dagger Eyes', seems entirely appropriate). Unfortunately, the film's hybrid nature - part-Giallo, part-industrial spy triple-crossings - doesn't really gel, and it becomes remarkably silly, idiotic even, in its final stages...

06. Gli orrori del castello di Norimberga / Baron Blood, by Mario Bava (1972) 7,5/10

This film is the quintessence of gothic horror. Too bad it's not on any list anymore, I really feel it's a must-see for any horror fan...

07. La classe operaia va in paradiso, by Elio Petri (1972) 8/10

An italian Palme d'or !! The score by Morricone certainly adds to the intensity of this film, as well as the very intense editing and camera movements. A great film.

5. I corpi presentano tracce di violenza carnale AKA Torso (1973)

Not my first giallo film, but the first one I went into it knowing it was. And I thought it was quite good. An erotic thriller with plenty of nudity and violence, this also had a great aesthetic to it, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I went into this expecting it to be not much more than background noise while I played around on ICM, but this was WAY more engaging than I expected. And added it to my 500<400 list.

6. Mondo Cane AKA A Dog's Life (1962)

And then I watched this. Definite dislike. Random vignettes supposedly filmed around the world, loosely connected via narration. Not enough information to be useful or to learn from it, not honest enough to be respected, and with some decidedly racist undertones to it (a theme that appears in these Mondo-series "documentaries").

3: Long Live ... Your Death! (1971)7

Bringing the influence of director Duccio Tessari's work with Sergio Leone in their adaptation of Lewis B. Patten's novel, the writers lean on Leone's landmark Spaghetti Westerns in the miss-matched friends relationship between Lozoya and Prince Dmitri, and a search for gold taking place against a Mexican Revolution backdrop. Whilst not shying away from their inspirations, the writers give the title its own refreshingly quirky edge, via farcical comedy of the map being on Lozoya's bottom, and Mary O'Donnell standing out from the usual ladies of the genre,by diving into the fighting.

Backed by a Morricone-sounding score from Gianni Ferrio, director Duccio Tessari & cinematographer José F. Aguayo make the Spaghetti Western shoot-outs crackle with excitement,as the whip-pans rush to follow Dmitri and Lozoya's quest for gold. Holding them up to give info to rival outlaws, Tessari loads up on the tension with lingering close-ups catching the guys thinking up elaborate escape plans. Performing the theme song, Lynn Redgrave gives an energetic performance as O'Donnell, with Redgrave hitting the action scenes with a real relish. Appearing in only his second Spaghetti Western, Franco Nero gives a terrific performance as Prince Dmitri, whose swift exchanges with Eli Wallach's very good performance as Lozoya balances slippery comedy and crunchy shoot-outs,where both of them turn the other cheek.

With a very similar plot to Hitchcock's Rebecca, the choice of title here is rather astute and the film is at its best as wide-eyed Barbara Steele (from Black Sunday) wanders the corridors and passageways of the mansion, unsettled by the briefest glimpses of seemingly supernatural stuff. The story unfortunately makes little sense with the title character's motivations never clear and all the necrophilia stuff is way too vague to make much of a mark.

4: Nothing Underneath (1985) 7

One of only a few Gialli to have most of the soundtrack be recorded on set instead of looped, Carlo and Enrico Vanzina’s team up with Franco Ferrini in (to quote the credits) “freely adapting” Marco Parma’s novel is helped by the mix of real and snippets of looped dialogue giving Crane’s telekinetic ability the impression of there not being one lone voice in his head. Dressing Crane with a deep telekinetic connection to his sister in the opening, the writers take an oddly casual approach to Crane’s desire to find the killer, as his liaisons in the drug & sex fuelled fashion industry cool the mystery down, until a a fading flashback and a shattering final gets underneath the identity of the murderer.

Dicing away from from the traditional, extended first person tracking shots of the killer, co-writer/director Carlo Vanzina & cinematographer Giuseppe Maccari find the ultra-stylised atmosphere of the Giallo in pristine match cuts by editor Raimondo Crociani, who makes the impact from well done (non-rubbery) practical effects strike with clean cuts unveiling the aftermath from each murder scene. Using Commissioner Danesi (played with a very good edge of suspicion of Donald Pleasence) and Pino Donaggio’s moody synch score to cast uncertainty over the killer identity, Vanzina threads the mystery of the Giallo with the pristine glamour of the Erotic Thriller, via Crane joining models in glossy sex scenes, which get wonderfully broken by Vanzina in a reflecting final revealing nothing underneath.
