Image

This award is for those brave souls who fought the good fight, but ultimately fell just short of the victory, landing in second place for an official challenge.

Almost congratulations to jdidaco for finishing in 2nd place in a second official challenge, earning Level 2 of this prestigious award.

Almost congratulations also to Simba63 for his first 2nd, earning Level 1 of this prestigious award.

2018's Obsessed Much? Awards

Image

This award is for those slightly obsessive people who manage to watch 100 films for a single challenge.

We had three obsessed individuals in March - congratulations to flavo5000, Simba63, and psychotronicbeatnik for getting over 100 watches (183, 113, and 119, respectively). flavo5000 and Simba63 both accomplished this in the Animation challenge, and psychotronicbeatnik in the Films Directed by Women challenge. And to further highlight this obsessive nature, this is flavo5000's third, moving to Level 3, with psychotronicbeatnik moving to Level 2 with the second obsessed month.

2018's 300 Awards

Image

This award is for those who have tallied 300 total watches across all official challenges. That's 25 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After March, we had four new people crest the "300 watch" threshold. Congratulations to jeroeno, jdidaco, 72allinncallme, and Gorro for amassing 300 watches across all official challenges! That's a lot of challenge dedication for so early in the season.

Did anyone ever have 100+ watches in 2 (or 3!) different challenges in the same month?

Anyone planning to watch 100 spaghetti westerns next month?

By my count, people have gone 100+ watches in a month for an Official Challenge 99 times since this forum was started. That has been accomplished twice in a calendar month exactly one time: In January of this year, flavo5000 went over 100 watches in both the Sci-Fi/Fantasy challenge as well as the Low IMDB Rating challenge (166 and 142, respectively).

As for Westerns, I'm certainly not (not my genre). And there have only been 3 instances of people going over 100 watches for an official Western challenge: PUNQ twice (May 2016 and 2017) and 72allinncallme (May 2017).

Thanks!

Of course, it would be flavo who did it :worship:

It'll almost certainly happen this month. It'll be interesting to watch the challenges to see who'll do it first.

I mentioned spaghetti westerns specifically, since they count for all 3 challenges next month. So if someone wanted to attempt triple 100, it would help to a have a taste for pasta.

This means we have completed one-third of the challenges for the year (I'm not prepared for it to be May)! psychotronicbeatnik has has continued to maintain a strong lead, racking up another win in the process along with full participation in all official challenges this year. Nice to rise up one spot this month, although -- even with an extra 65.5 points under my belt -- I am nowhere near close to any of the seven participants above me. I guess the challenge now is to try to enter the coveted top seven. The Easter holidays has certainly helped, but yeah, I don't have as much free time as many others here do.
-_- I was about to grumble about only moving up one spot again (despite winning one of last's month Challenges) until I realised that I am now in reach of those above me, which I wasn't before. Hell, I even have a chance of overtaking maxwelldeux at this stage, but shh, don't tell him. tehe

2018's X/X Awards

Image

This award is for those people who have watched X movies for X official challenges. The first level is easy to obtain - every challenge participant will have watched at least 1 film for 1 official challenge. But each subsequent level is harder to achieve - Level Two is 2 films in each of 2 official challenges, Level Three is 3 films in each of 3 official challenges, Level Ten is 10 films watched in each of 10 official challenges, and so on.

This is my personal favorite award. It's already starting to get hard to achieve some of those higher levels, and it's only going to get more interesting as the months go on. Level 12 is currently the maximum possible award, and only a single person has achieved that level. Here is a list of everyone with an award promotion this month:

Level 12 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 12 films in all 12 official challenges: psychotronicbeatnik

Level 11 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 11 films in each of 11 official challenges: 72allinncallme, jeroeno

Level 10 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 10 films in each of 10 official challenges: Mate_cosido, maxwelldeux, OldAle1, sol

Level 9 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 9 films in each of 9 official challenges: 3eyes, hurluberlu

Level 8 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 8 films in each of 8 official challenges: Fergenaprido, RogerTheMovieManiac88

Level 7 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 7 films in each of 7 official challenges: flavo5000, Ivan0716, weirdboy

Level 6 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 6 films in each of 6 official challenges: cinephage, frbrown, Gorro, India Istanbul, nimimerkillinen, sebby, Simba63, vortexsurfer

Level 5 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 5 films in each of 5 official challenges: 45MinuteZoom, allisoncm, tommy_leazaq

Level 4 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 4 films in each of 4 official challenges: clemmetarey, klaus78, Mochard, ororama, peeptoad

Level 3 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 3 films in each of 3 official challenges: edward5, Hippiemans, Lilarcor, Lonewolf2003, morrison-dylan-fan

These are still fascinating stats and a fun extra-challenge to maintain a high place in them. I appreciate all the hard work you must put in tabulating them.

I thought at first that jdidaco should have shared my Level 12 spot this month, but I think you have inadvertently left him off the list for Level 11. He was a Level 9 holder previously, and this month he finished the following challenges with these numbers:
70's - 70
France - 16
TSPDT - 2
I may not fully understand this one but it looks to me like he should be at Level 11.

Great question, and a fantastic illustration of the quirkiness of this award and why I like it so much. (And sorry to pick on you, jdidaco, but you have some fascinating results.)

So jdidaco hit Level 9 after March, with at least 9 watches in all 9 challenges up to that point. But in the Latin American and African American challenges, jdidaco had exactly 9 watches. The promotion to Level 10 requires 10 watches in each of 10 challenges; after April, jdidaco has at least 10 watches in only 9 challenges, thus staying at Level 9.

Let's dive into my data:
maxwelldeux 44 Sci-Fi/Fantasy
maxwelldeux 20 Australian/New Zealand
maxwelldeux 20 Low IMDB Rating
maxwelldeux 42 African American Cinema
maxwelldeux 36 1960s
maxwelldeux 8 Latin America
maxwelldeux 60 Animation
maxwelldeux 8 Russian
maxwelldeux 26 Films Directed by Women
maxwelldeux 11 French
maxwelldeux 33 TSPDT
maxwelldeux 24 1970s

I'm at Level 10, since I've had at least 10 watches in each of 10 challenges. After this month, I can get to Level 12, but I cannot get to Level 13 - with my performance in the French challenge (in addition to Latin America/Russia), I can't get to at least 13 watches in 13 challenges; even if I go all-in with 100+ watches in all three challenges this month, I'd still end the month with 12 challenges at 13+ watches, so I couldn't get to Level 13.

Make sense?

That makes more sense. I had not considered how many jd had watched for each of the previous ones and I didn't see his name in the first three spots so I assumed he was left out.

I have a minimum of 20 watches in each of the challenges so far so as long as I don't dip below that and still compete in all the challenges then I should at least make level 20. but there are some upcoming challenges I may find it hard to get 20 watches in. Devilish challenge you've created, Maxwell!

Thanks for explaining it.

2018's 300 Awards

Image

This award is for those who have tallied 300 total watches across all official challenges. That's 25 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After May, we had two new people crest the "300 watch" threshold. Congratulations to OldAle1 and RogerTheMovieManiac88 for amassing 300 watches across all official challenges!

2018's Obsessed Much? Awards

Image

This award is for those slightly obsessive people who manage to watch 100 films for a single challenge.

We had two obsessed individuals in May - congratulations to flavo5000 and jdidaco for cresting the 100 watch threshold! Both accomplished this in the Cult/Grindhouse/Drive-In challenge, with 140 and 110 watches respectively. This is flavo5000's 4th 100-watch challenge this year, moving to Level 4, and jdidico's 2nd, moving to Level 2.

Level 15 is currently the maximum possible award, and only a single person has achieved that level. Here is a list of everyone with an award promotion this month:

Level 15 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 15 films in all 15 official challenges: psychotronicbeatnik

Level 12 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 12 films in each of 12 official challenges: 72allinncallme, jeroeno, Mate_cosido, OldAle1, sol

Level 11 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 11 films in each of 11 official challenges: jdidaco, maxwelldeux

Level 10 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 10 films in each of 10 official challenges: 3eyes, hurluberlu, RogerTheMovieManiac88

Level 9 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 9 films in each of 9 official challenges: Fergenaprido, Simba63

Level 8 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 8 films in each of 8 official challenges: allisoncm, flavo5000, frbrown, India Istanbul, vortexsurfer, weirdboy

Level 7 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 7 films in each of 7 official challenges: cinephage, sebby

Level 6 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 6 films in each of 6 official challenges: peeptoad, tommy_leazaq

Level 5 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 5 films in each of 5 official challenges: ChrisReynolds, Eve-Lang-El-Coup, klaus78, morrison-dylan-fan

Level 4 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 4 films in each of 4 official challenges: jvv, Knaldskalle

Level 3 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 3 films in each of 3 official challenges: Daviddoes, Nopros, sortile9io, te18

Level 2 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 2 films in each of 2 official challenges: Nathan Treadway

Level 1 - Congrats to all the new participants who have watched at least 1 film for an official challenge: insomnius, Melvelet, PUNQ, shugs

Updated Results

The fifth month of the year is now in the past, and all of the May challenges have been finalized. This means we have completed five of twelve challenges for the year! psychotronicbeatnik has continued to maintain a strong lead, racking up another Close, But No Cigar in the process along with full participation in all official challenges this year. In all, we've had great participation this year so far, with 80 people participating in at least one of the official challenges. And on a personal note, jdidaco is a doodiehead for passing me, while sol is suspiciously close. I apparently need to ramp up my film watching this month.

Not really. The wealth of doubles and triples last month is what led to me scoring so well - and this month promises to be pretty busy for me work-wise, so I doubt I'll be able to maintain my #6 rank with the next update. Of course, next month I am on holidays again...

Well that's good news for me. I have a couple days this month where I can just sit and binge-watch movies with no real responsibilities, so hopefully I can build up a bit of a lead... :whistling:

Results coming!

I assume I won't be able to maintain spot #6, but I'm curious to see whether I fall to #7, #8 or lower with the latest update.

2018's 300 Awards

Image

This award is for those who have tallied 300 total watches across all official challenges. That's 25 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After June, we had four new people crest the "300 watch" threshold. Congratulations to allisoncm, frbrown, hurluberlu, and India Istanbul for amassing 300 watches across all official challenges!

I assume I won't be able to maintain spot #6, but I'm curious to see whether I fall to #7, #8 or lower with the latest update.
I'll start pacing the results better tomorrow once I get a chance to actually sit and relax (too much going on IRL).

And as long as I stay ahead of you, I'm good. :whistling: But you'll have to wait for those results - I haven't even looked at the numbers myself.

2018's Obsessed Much? Awards

Image

This award is for those slightly obsessive people who manage to watch 100 films for a single challenge.

We had three obsessed individuals in June - congratulations to India Istanbul, jeroeno, and psychotronicbeatnik for cresting the 100 watch threshold! All three accomplished this in the 1980s challenge, with 156, 134, and 106 watches respectively. This is psychotronicbeatnik's 4th 100-watch challenge this year, moving to Level 4, and first for both India Istanbul and jeroeno, who both move to Level 1.

Level 18 is currently the maximum possible award, and only a single person has achieved that level. Here is a list of everyone with an award promotion this month:

Level 18 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 18 films in all 18 official challenges: psychotronicbeatnik

Level 15 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 15 films in each of 15 official challenges: 72allinncallme, jeroeno

Level 14 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 14 films in each of 14 official challenges: jdidaco, Mate_cosido, sol
