By the way, do you have me at 211 in horror last year? The OP is missing 5 points.
I do have you at 211 in Horror last year, but that wouldn't show in this OP. Here's what I have for you this year:

Sci-Fi/Fantasy 30
Low IMDB Rating 62
China/HK/Taiwan 6
Action 42
Doubling the Canon 1
<400 Checks 140
Middle East 3
1990s-2010s 160
Comedy 86
Iberian 8
LGBT+ 111
Horror 31

You referenced just to you finding all scores in every challenge's OP. And horror is the only one that is different for me in that regard. But if you already have 211 then everything is sunshine and rainbows already. Thanks.

Oh I see what you're saying - yeah, my process was looking at the OP and double-checking there wasn't anything more updated at the end of the thread (which was pretty often, historically). What I didn't do was go through each challenge thread and recalculate things myself.

2018's 300 Awards

Image

This award is for those who have tallied 300 total watches across all official challenges. That's 25 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After Nov, we had two new people crest the "300 watch" threshold. Congratulations to Daviddoes and ororama for amassing 300 watches across all official challenges!

2018's Obsessed Much? Awards

This award is for those slightly obsessive people who manage to watch 100 films for a single challenge.

We had four obsessed individuals in November- one from the Nordic challlenge, and three from the Noir challenge. Congratulations to albajos, flavo5000, Simba63, and RogerTheMovieManiac88 for cresting the 100 watch threshold!

albajos hit 160 in the Nordic Challenge, moving to Level 4. And in the Noir challenge, flavo5000 hit 115, moving to Level 10, while Simba63 hit 122, moving to Level 2, and RogerTheMovieManiac88 hit 113, earning Level 1. Congrats to all of them!

2018's Close, But No Cigar Awards

This award is for those brave souls who fought the good fight, but ultimately fell just short of the victory, landing in second place for an official challenge.

Almost congratulations to 72allinncallme for finishing in 2nd place in the Criterion/Masters of Cinema Challenge, earning a fourth second and Level 4 of this prestigious award.

More almost congratulations to 72allinncallme for finishing in 2nd place in the Nordic challenge, earning a fifth second (two in one month?!?) and Level 5 of this prestigious award.

Almost congratulations to flavo5000 for finishing in 2nd place in the Noir challenge, earning a fourth second and Level 4 of this prestigious award.

2018's X/X Awards

Image

This award is for those people who have watched X movies for X official challenges. The first level is easy to obtain - every challenge participant will have watched at least 1 film for 1 official challenge. But each subsequent level is harder to achieve - Level Two is 2 films in each of 2 official challenges, Level Three is 3 films in each of 3 official challenges, Level Ten is 10 films watched in each of 10 official challenges, and so on.

This is my personal favorite award. It's already starting to get hard to achieve some of those higher levels, and it's only going to get more interesting as the year closes out. Level 33 is currently the maximum possible award, and no one has achieved that level, though we have seven people who have cracked Level 20. Here is a list of everyone with an award promotion this month:

Level 28 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 28 films in each of 28 official challenges: psychotronicbeatnik

Level 24 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 24 films in each of 24 official challenges: 72allinncallme, sol

Level 22 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 22 films in each of 22 official challenges: jdidaco

Level 20 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 20 films in each of 20 official challenges: maxwelldeux

Level 19 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 19 films in each of 19 official challenges: RogerTheMovieManiac88

Level 15 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 15 films in each of 15 official challenges: allisoncm, flavo5000, hurluberlu

Level 14 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 14 films in each of 14 official challenges: weirdboy

Level 13 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 13 films in each of 13 official challenges: Simba63

Level 12 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 12 films in each of 12 official challenges: India Istanbul, nimimerkillinen

Level 11 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 11 films in each of 11 official challenges: peeptoadv

Level 10 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 10 films in each of 10 official challenges: albajos, ororama

Level 9 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 9 films in each of 9 official challenges: VincentPrice

Level 7 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 7 films in each of 7 official challenges: funkybusiness, shugs

Level 5 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 5 films in each of 5 official challenges: Hunziker, Nopros

Level 4 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 4 films in each of 4 official challenges: Melvelet

Level 3 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 3 films in each of 3 official challenges: monclivie, Nathan Treadway, rnilsson19, tarr

Level 2 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 2 films in each of 2 official challenges: Good_Will_Harding, GruesomeTwosome, insomnius, Renegade, zuma

I know - sol hates you and dropped the "1" from your name. I fixed it in one place, but missed the other spot. And as is my luck, you managed to post right as I'm in the process of fixing it.

EDIT: Literally 7 minutes between that post and me fixing the error, but of course you read it and commented in that span. :circle: :cowbow:

Ouch. My average rank fell by 1.5 points with this update - I assume due to my dismal performance in the Noir Challenge, since I was comfortably in the top 10 in the other two November Challenges. Actually, we now have a situation in which only one person has an average top ten rank.

Wait, I'm confused.

I don't know of a single person from the IMDb days who called Ale "OldAle1" and I've known Ale for over a decade, so I have to actively remember to include the "1" whenever he posts in one of the Challenges that I host. I guess he must like the "1" much more than the hyphen that I dropped from my name upon registering here. Or maybe I just have less loyalty to extra characters after my username...

Basically, I accidentally switched the "rank" and "number of watches" columns in my spreadsheet. I saw the error early on and fixed it in the spreadsheet where I calculate every other award, but forgot to fix it in the leaderboard sheet. (I'm going to redo my process to avoid this stupid duplication next year.) I'll have it fixed in a few.

A small matter, but I believe I competed in all 33 challenges, not 32.
I know - sol hates you and dropped the "1" from your name.
I really just wanted to flip you some shit... :guns:

What happened was that I added the "1" back in in one spot (basically, the same problem with the screwed up stats), but missed the other. I check for misspellings/nicknames as part of my data cleaning, but just had a bonehead error month.

PS: The ranks/counts are fixed now.
PPS: How did I just notice that you hit exactly 26 in all three challenges?

I don't know that I have loyalty - in fact, I have always used a different username for every forum I've ever been on - except in this case, moving from IMDb, because the old forum imploded and only a couple of them have been beer-related. But I guess the "1" sticks for whatever reason; can't remember now if there actually was an "OldAle" when I registered, I think there might have been. It was actually my second account, my first I registered I think in 1999-2000 and it was my email addy at the time, and I never really used it. But I used the site regularly at a couple of different jobs earlier - 1994 or 1995. Damn, I don't think there's any website I've been aware of longer. Fuck Col Needham.

There's no sense in denying it - I'm aiming for Level 26 in the Beautiful Mind Awards this year. ^_^

The message board implosion hit me quite strongly too as a member of the younger generation. At the time of the boards closing in February 2017, I had been active on the IMDb message boards for more than half of my life. :o

2018's 300 Awards

Image

This award is for those who have tallied 300 total watches across all official challenges. That's 25 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After Dec, we had one new person crest the "300 watch" threshold. Congratulations to klaus78 for amassing 300 watches across all official challenges!

This year, we've had 31 people battle at Thermopylae! Full list under the spoiler.

2018's Obsessed Much? Awards

Image

This award is for those slightly obsessive people who manage to watch 100 films for a single challenge.

We had three obsessed individuals in December - all in the Documentary Challenge. Congratulations to maxwelldeux, flavo5000, and tourdesb for cresting the 100 watch threshold!

maxwelldeux hit 140, moving to Level 2. flavo5000 hit 134, moving to Level 11, and tourdesb hit 100, earning Level 1. Congrats to all of them!

This year, we had 20 people crest 100 watches in at least one challenge. flavo5000 dominated this award, getting to Level 11. psychotronicbeatnik came in second at Level 7, with albajos following at Level 4. Full results under the spoiler.

2018's Close, But No Cigar Awards

Image

This award is for those brave souls who fought the good fight, but ultimately fell just short of the victory, landing in second place for an official challenge.

Almost congratulations to weirdboy for finishing in 2nd place in the Forum Lists Challenge, earning a first second and Level 1 of this prestigious award.

Almost congratulations to jeroeno for finishing in 2nd place in the Canadian Challenge, earning a second second and Level 2 of this prestigious award.

Almost congratulations to flavo5000 for finishing in 2nd place in the Documentary Challenge, earning a fifth second and Level 5 of this prestigious award.

But who are the best losers this year? Congrats to psychotronicbeatnik for finishing 2nd in 6 challenges this year! 72allinncallme and flavo5000 are the best losers at losing, both tying for second place here with 5 2nd place finishes this year. jdidaco is right behind with 4 2nd place finishes. 2018's Winners Only Awards

Image

This award is for those dedicated souls who managed to win one of the official challenges.

One new and two repeat winners this month! Congratulations again to sol, 72allinncallme, and maxwelldeux for winning the December official challenges! sol claimed victory in the Canadian Challenge, earning a second victory this year and 3rd overall. 72allinncallme took the win for the Forum Lists Challenge, earning a fourth win this year and 7th overall. maxwelldeux claimed victory in the Documentary Challenge, earning a first win this year and 1st overall. Good work to everyone!

And who in the winningest winner who would make Charlie Sheen proud? None other than flavo5000, who took victory in six challenges this year! Couple that with the five second place finishes, and you have a clear theme: when flavo5000 plays, flavo5000 PLAYS.

Four other people tied with four victories this year: 72allinncallme, albajos, jeroeno, and psychotronicbeatnik. Congrats to everyone! Full results under the spoiler.

It's hard to achieve some of those higher levels, and it's fascinating to see how different performances shook out. Level 36 is the maximum possible award, and no one has achieved that level. psychotronicbeatnik Led this challenge award pretty much from start to finish, ending the year at Level 30, the highest level achieved by anyone. sol and 72allinncallme round out the top three, finishing at Level 26 and Level 25, respectively.

For this final X/X post, I'm going to table everyone so that we can see the distribution of levels and note who got a promotion this month.
