2018's X/X Awards

Image

This award is for those people who have watched X movies for X official challenges. The first level is easy to obtain - every challenge participant will have watched at least 1 film for 1 official challenge. But each subsequent level is harder to achieve - Level Two is 2 films in each of 2 official challenges, Level Three is 3 films in each of 3 official challenges, Level Ten is 10 films watched in each of 10 official challenges, and so on.

This is my personal favorite award. It's already starting to get hard to achieve some of those higher levels, and it's only going to get more interesting as the months go on. And we finally cracked psychotronicbeatnik! Level 24 is currently the maximum possible award, and no one has achieved that level. Here is a list of everyone with an award promotion this month:

Level 22 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 22 films in each of 22 official challenges: psychotronicbeatnik

Level 19 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 19 films in each of 19 official challenges: 72allinncallme

Level 18 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 18 films in each of 18 official challenges: Mate_cosido, sol

Should that be Level 20 rather than Level 22 for 'beatnik, Maxwell? Perhaps I am misunderstanding things!

Level 22 is 22 points in 22 of the challenges challenges.

The max would be level 24 now, so that someone is at lv22 now seems plausible.
(I haven't checked the stats. I'm on a train)

I can understand the confusion with that. Copy and pasting and forgetting to change error - but at least less controversial here then when you inadvertently told us that all of our spoiler tags were boring on the <400 challenge thread! By the way, thanks for the Spoiler Tag of the Week win. Almost makes me want to get out my Criterion DVD and plod a < sign in the title in whiteout, heh.

Oh, and while it does my head in, the Beautiful Mind award is easily the least predictable award here and the one that I most look forward to checking my progress in.

Yeah sorry - Level 24 is the max. I even made a mental note to change that and I still forgot. :pinch:

Regarding Beatnik, just for some explanation, here's a quick look:
- 20 watches for Latin America challenge
- 18 watches for African challenge
- At least 22 in all other challenges.

So that's why psychotronicbeatnik is at Level 22. Then there's the 23 watches from the Australia/NZ challenge - that will help for Level 23, but NOT for Level 24.

PS: I'm happy to walk through scoring for anyone, if y'all wish.

2018's 300 Awards

Image

This award is for those who have tallied 300 total watches across all official challenges. That's 25 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After Sept, we had two new people crest the "300 watch" threshold. Congratulations to nimimerkillinen, and sebby for amassing 300 watches across all official challenges!

2018's Obsessed Much? Awards

We had two obsessed individuals in September - both massively obsessed individuals. Congratulations to flavo5000, and psychotronicbeatnik for cresting the 100 watch threshold!

flavo500 hit 139 in the Comedy challenge this month, moving to Level 8. psychotronicbeatnik hit 112 in the Silent challenge, reaching Level 7) this month. Congrats to both of them!

Wow, a lot of X/X awards, and nearly every level was included.

I had the opposite reaction - with more possible levels, we're more spread, and there are fewer promotions this month than others, and more skipped levels. Which I think is even more fascinating.

2018's 300 Awards

Image

This award is for those who have tallied 300 total watches across all official challenges. That's 25 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After Oct, we had two new people crest the "300 watch" threshold. Congratulations to Fergenaprido, peeptoad, and VincentPrice for amassing 300 watches across all official challenges!

2018's Obsessed Much? Awards

Image

This award is for those slightly obsessive people who manage to watch 100 films for a single challenge.

We had nine obsessed individuals in October - two from the LGBTQ+ challlenge, and seven from the Horror challenge. Congratulations to albajos, Cocoa, Daviddoes, flavo5000, jdidaco, jeroeno, kierkegaardian, OldAle1, and sebby for cresting the 100 watch threshold!

albajos and jdidaco each hit 111 in the LGBTQ+ Challenge, with both moving to Level 3. And in the Horror challenge, jeroeno hit 163, moving to Level 2, while flavo500 hit 153, moving to Level 9. And five newly obsessed individuals, Cocoa (150), Daviddoes (136), kierkegaardian (116), OldAle1 (103), and sebby (100) all move to Level 1. Congrats to all of them!

Love the increased pace scheduling, max! :poshclap: All the less interesting (more predictable) awards within minutes of each other while we hold our breath for the two least predictable results - the Beautiful Mind award and the newly updated leaderboard!

It's already starting to get hard to achieve some of those higher levels, and it's only going to get more interesting as the year closes out. Level 30 is currently the maximum possible award, and no one has achieved that level, though we have five people who have cracked Level 20. Here is a list of everyone with an award promotion this month:

Level 26 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 26 films in each of 26 official challenges: psychotronicbeatnik

Level 23 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 23 films in each of 23 official challenges: 72allinncallme

Level 21 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 21 films in each of 21 official challenges: jdidaco, sol

Level 20 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 20 films in each of 20 official challenges: Mate_cosido

Level 19 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 19 films in each of 19 official challenges: maxwelldeux, OldAle1

Level 18 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 18 films in each of 18 official challenges: jeroeno, RogerTheMovieManiac88

Level 14 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 14 films in each of 14 official challenges: allisoncm, flavo5000

Level 13 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 13 films in each of 13 official challenges: vortexsurfer

Level 12 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 12 films in each of 12 official challenges: Simba63

Level 11 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 11 films in each of 11 official challenges: sebby

Level 10 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 10 films in each of 10 official challenges: klaus78

Level 9 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 9 films in each of 9 official challenges: blueboybob, ChrisReynolds, clemmetarey, morrison-dylan-fan, ororama

Level 8 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 8 films in each of 8 official challenges: albajos, VincentPrice

Level 7 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 7 films in each of 7 official challenges: Daviddoes, Knaldskalle, zzzorf

Level 6 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 6 films in each of 6 official challenges: funkybusiness, mathiasa, shugs

Level 5 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 5 films in each of 5 official challenges: te18, XxXApathy420XxX

Level 4 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 4 films in each of 4 official challenges: Hunziker, sortile9io

Level 3 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 3 films in each of 3 official challenges: fear of 13, lynchs

I see what you're pointing out. For all this stuff, I go by what's posted in the OP when the challenge closes, which is how this got into my spreadsheet.

What I can do is update that 1 to a 3 for that challenge, but not update the ranks (updating the ranks is a pretty significant amount of work). This'll get you the 300 award this month, and will update your watch count. Will that work?

Ooh, nice to see that I'm up one place to seventh this month. Rarified air!

Bit of a quirky one I'd imagine that OldAle stays ahead of me with a marginally lower average ranking and 200-odd fewer viewings.

It's fun to keep track of this month by month! Thanks for doing it.
That's all, folks!

After what I can see 4 of the challenge wins are not in the top 25. You couldn't just add those at the end?

It's a fun one and is a product of the rank-based scoring system. I mean, the LGBTQ+ challenge last month is a great example - albajos and jdidaco tied for the win in a challenge with 19 participants and got 18.5 points each for their efforts; you, with ~42% of their total, got 17 points. It's why I mention that breadth tends to be better rewarded than depth.

Even with all that and having set up the spreadsheet, I'm still surprised at some of the results...

They're all in the OP, but I added them to the post above, too.

Ah, yes. That explains it of course. I was scratching my head over it for a minute or two.

it's just 300 to get this, but I have you at 298...
I think there's a calculation error then:
viewtopic.php?p=530518#p530518
viewtopic.php?p=524733#p524733
I see what you're pointing out. For all this stuff, I go by what's posted in the OP when the challenge closes, which is how this got into my spreadsheet.

What I can do is update that 1 to a 3 for that challenge, but not update the ranks (updating the ranks is a pretty significant amount of work). This'll get you the 300 award this month, and will update your watch count. Will that work?
Thanks, that will suffice. I'm not sure how my score got miscounted for that challenge because I posted before the deadline. I was hoping to hit 300 before the end of the year, so I'm pleasantly surprised to hit it with two months to spare.

By the way, do you have me at 211 in horror last year? The OP is missing 5 points.

I figured I'd do OK because of my horror showing but still a bit surprised that I'm still ahead of Roger and up a point overall. But this I fear will be my high water mark, it''s impossible for me to imagine doing as well in November and I'd be surprised if I hit the top 10 in any challenge in December. Some of you guys must still be able to watch shitloads of stuff around family - or you just don't have or see family - but it's not possible for me. A week at the end of this month and at the end of next that will be nothing but Christmas movies - if I even get to watch those. Probably just end up watching Disney stuff over and over and over at the end of December alas...

December will be somewhat down in terms of viewings for me as well, I imagine. Family and siblings returning from corners far and wide to the family pile for several weeks of high-jinks and merriment. I can though always excuse myself and slink off to my room to indulge in some ''boring, silent black and white film from Mongolia''. Ooh, the joys of cinephilia! Rare is the occasion that I will actually stick out a shared family viewing.
That's all, folks!
