Just noticed that DRC and Zaire are listed separately. They should be the same, because it's the same country with the same boundaries, they just changed their name when a different ruler came into power.

It was more than a name change because the DRC was overthrown by Mobutu, and Zaire was then a new country set up in the same place. Similar to how Russia and the Soviet Union are counted as two different countries.

I tried putting a forum-format spreadsheet together, but it was taking too long to do, so I gave up. -_- Sorry. If anyone wishes to though, you can take my formatting and try to fill in the rest.

This information is taken through IMDb Power Search. Searched for Documentaries + Features, then excluded anything with run time <40 or run time unknown. This does, however, still only give a rough idea, because with the vast majority of the films that seem to exist for each country, the country in question is only listed second or third and therefore is probably not eligible by our rules.

Actually, I'll hide my spreadsheet under spoiler tags because it is a little long.

Best I can help with is noting that Eve-Lang-El-Coup watched The Rocket in the Asian challenge, which counted for Laos.

A change of regime doesn't make a new country. What do you mean by "a new country set up". According to Wikipedia:
Zaire, officially the Republic of Zaire, was the name for the Democratic Republic of the Congo that existed between 1971 and 1997 in Central Africa. [...] Zaire collapsed in the 1990s, [...] With rebel forces successfully making gains beyond the east, Mobutu fled the country, leaving Kabila's forces in charge as the country restored its name to the Democratic Republic of the Congo the following year.

Thank you! And don't worry, you don't have to do any extra work, that's homework for the host. Sharing your own experience tracking down those exotic countries will be enough. I will post later a table collecting that information. Not a problem not being listed first, by the way.

Rather an African-focused assortment of recent viewings from me:

16. 'The Boy Kumasenu' (1952, Sean Graham) - 6.5/10 - Gold Coast (incorrectly attributed to Ghana on IMDb)
17. 'Casa de pe strade noastra' (1957, Mircea Saucan, 24 minutes) - 9/10 + 'Doi vecini' (1958, Geo Saizescu, 33 minutes) - 9 or 10/10 + 'Excerpt' (2007, Sergiu Lupse, 5 minutes) - 9/10 - (62 minutes in total) - Romania
18. 'The Delinquents' (1989, Chris Thomson) - 7/10 - Australia/USA/Canada
19. 'Mack the Knife' (1989, Menahem Golan) - 9/10 - Hungary/Netherlands
20. 'Jnah l'hwa' / 'Love in the Medina' (2011, Abdelhai Laraki) - 7 or 7.5/10 - Morocco/Italy
21. 'L'oeil du cyclone' (2015, Sekou Traoré) - 8.5/10 - France/Burkina Faso
22. 'Bois d'ébene' (2016, Moussa Touré) - 8/10 - France/Senegal
23. 'Women on Walls' (2017, Ciarán Deeney) - 6/10 - Ireland

That's all, folks!

Duris and Paradis are good, with Duris getting a good balance between his character's sleaziness and likeability, but it's all in service of a generic romantic comedy that is lacking in humour. It started off well at least.

Except some scenes shot in Monaco, I am afraid everything is French in this movie: production, director, actors,...
Given that Monaco is a large town tax haven inside France, I think this is as close as it's possible to get to a Monacan film. And it's not just a few scenes filmed in Monaco:
apart from the first 20 minutes, the film seems to be almost entirely on location in Monaco. It's also listed as a Monaco co-production everywhere, including on IMDb which is what we're going by.
There is zero production company based in Monaco involved in this. It was probably entered due to the shooting location. It has been representing France in various festivals. If we loosen criteria to complete the list, at least let's take stuff that somehow say something about the location.

The order of the countries listed in IMDB is complete and utter BS, and often has nothing to do with the actual production country. And I am unaware of any rules that say only the first country listed counts. Is this some new rule that is not mentioned in the OP?

Of course not, it doesn't have to be first as I already answered a few posts above.

I always learn something new with your posts. Why do you say 16 was incorrectly attributed to Ghana. I read on Wikipedia:
The Gold Coast was the name for a region on the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa which was rich in gold and also in petroleum, sweet crude oil and natural gas. It now forms the country of Ghana.
I haven't found much about 23. Is it an Irish TV documentary?

Welcome to this debatable challenge! We're using the countries listed by IMDb as the main reference which means that I'm counting your second watch as West Germany.

The film is from the pre-independence era Gold Coast obviously. In 1956-1957, just prior to the attainment of independence under the new name of Ghana, British Togoland and the Ashanti and Fante protectorates were merged with the Gold Coast. The complex political realities and nomenclature had therefore changed in the years between 1952 and 1957 and for those reasons the Gold Coast and Ghana ought to be treated as separate cases.

The 'Women on Walls' documentary is directed by the Irish documentary film-maker Ciarán Deeney who has been involved in locally well-received entries such as 'Man on Bridge' and the quirky 'Mattress Men'. This documentary was produced in partnership by RTÉ (the national broadcaster) and Accenture and is part of a wider undertaking by the Royal Irish Academy to celebrate the successes of women members past and present. Up until very recently no portraits of women had graced the walls of this institution and Deeney's film follows and explores the lives and achievements of these hitherto under-celebrated women as the various portraits take shape through the brush-strokes of the two artists commissioned to paint the works. I am fairly certain that it will be added to the IMDb database in due course as Ciarán Deeney has an entry there. Here's an article and project overview that I found, should more information be necessary: https://www.accenture.com/ie-en/women-on-walls.

Speaking of independent countries not being listed on IMDb, I think of Saarland and South Yemen but I doubt any films were made there at all.

It's kinda strange that nobody added South Sudan yet.

The order of the countries listed in IMDB is complete and utter BS, and often has nothing to do with the actual production country. And I am unaware of any rules that say only the first country listed counts. Is this some new rule that is not mentioned in the OP?
Way to misinterpret what I meant. I mean films like http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3235878/reference for which a country like Belize is second listed but seems to almost have nothing to do with the film in question.

Alright, I should have read the article about the British Colony not about the region. So the film was made in one of those four territories that would later be merged to form Ghana after obtaining independence. It is not a mere change of name, like Burma/Myanmar but actually something closer to Yugoslavia. Added.

Well, the limit must be somewhere, no fuzzy logic here. Would you consider a 46 min film a short?

I have taken a look-see (it's on YT) and I've see more Monaco than Paris (many indoors too that I couldn't identify or were anonymous). Some sites say it is just French while others say it is a co-production with Monaco (maybe some of them take the information from IMDb). Could it be that Monaco is there just to gain some tax benefits? I cannot tell which one is right. I will pass it but please try to pick films less disputed.

Alright, I should have read the article about the British Colony not about the region. So the film was made in one of those four territories that would later be merged to form Ghana after obtaining independence. It is not a mere change of name, like Burma/Myanmar but actually something closer to Yugoslavia. Added.
Cheers. Yes, it was a tad complicated with the separate colonial influences and the region as a whole. The film itself is rather an interesting examination of traditional ways and the pull of the big city, although it does have a white voice-over to guide the viewer through the lives and interactions that come the way of young Kumasenu. A fascinating film in many ways though!

Wishing you a Happy Christmas, sortile.
That's all, folks!

I am obviously not French and I should have read about this before. Participants (or passers-by) from France, correct me if I'm wrong.
- Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Réunion and Mayotte are overseas regions with the same status as the metropolitan regions (Normandy, Île-de-France, etc.) only they're not in Europe. This is very similar to the Spanish Canary Islands. They should be therefore removed (three were on the unconquered list, Martinique was missing at all).
- Saint Martin, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, French Polynesia and Wallis and Futuna. They have some degree of autonomy (French Polynesia in particular) but are nevertheless administrative divisions of France and as such they could also be removed (only French Polynesia was on the unconquered list).
- New Caledonia. A special case with a unique status and seemingly on its way to become an indepent country (maybe even as soon as next year). There is a New Caledonian citizenship in addition to the French. So I think we could keep it (it is on the unconquered list).

Well, the limit must be somewhere, no fuzzy logic here. Would you consider a 46 min film a short?
Thanks! I just wanted to make sure. I know the line has to be drawn somewhere.
