@jai90
please don't ever stop posting. two days in a row now you've made me cackle so hard the neighbor's cat has phoned to inquire if everything is all right. I find utter nonsense spoken plainly as if it's actually based in reality to be, perhaps, the funniest thing of all. Anyway, it is rather lovely to laugh in times like these.
Anyhooo, if people want to leave the forum bc their brand of dickishness is met with a negative response here, then...that's good, no? Not just speaking about rbg. If you troll or stir up shit for no good reason and then act offended when people say, Hey wait a minute you're being a dick, the place for you is probably a youtube comments section rather than a discussion forum that's generally respectful. there have been a few dickheads that have come and gone over the years and rather than leaving a gaping hole when they depart, they, through their absence, patch one up.

You only live twice.
Seriously though, it's sad to see her go. I rewatched A View to a Kill just a few months ago.

Neil Sheehan, 84
American journalist and author. Sheehan was part of a young, courageous group of American reporters who went to South Vietnam in the early 1960s and quickly realized that the American military and government were lying about the war. Struggling against immense pressure from government officials and their own bosses to not ruffle feathers, these reporters first began revealing to the American public that the war was built on a foundation of mendacity. Sheehan later moved from UPI to the New York Times, where he served as a Pentagon and White House Correspondent. It was in that role that he received the Pentagon Papers from Daniel Ellsberg and arranged for their publication in the Times. If Sheehan had stopped there, he would have already been a legend in the history of American journalism. But then he went on to write A Bright Shining Lie, which remains not only the best book on Vietnam but also the best work of non-fiction I've ever read.

No, but I am going to ask you all to stop once again. Take this "discussion" elsewhere.

I wonder if the Up series is done now?

My first thought too. The participants haven't been enthusiastic for the last couple of editions. Would be fantastic if they could continue though.

Very sad to hear about Michael Apted dying
The Up series is fantastic and he was a huge part of its success.

I know he directed a bunch of other films, but I suspect Up will absolutely dwarf everything else as his major achievement moving into the future. Hard to think of anyone else (in film) so tied to one successful project for so many decades. RIP
RIP Michael Apted
I watched 42 up last month and was wondering myself what would happen to the series if Michael would die since he was onder than all of the People he followed.
If that's the end of the Up series then frhats alright. If he gave permission for someone to take over that would be awesome as Well.

RIP. I reckon they'll carry on to 70 Up, at least. The 7-70 thing is too neat not to be completed (maybe 77 even neater). I'm still decades behind though.

Just please don't give the "Up" series to Nick Broomfield.

Nobody can do as badly with Up as Pete Docter did.

No one even mentioned Tommy Lasorda. Europeans, I tell ya.

The Israeli activist and plumber Ezra Nawi has died aged 68 or 69, from cancer. An extraordinary man for his bravery and resoluteness in highlighting through his tireless activism the actions of Israeli settlers and the state's forces in land grabs and repressions against Bedouin people. A humanist, a gay icon, a pacifist at heart, a fascinating and concerned man of energy and action. Nissim Mossek made a documentary film on him in 2007, entitled 'Citizen Nawi' (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1092055/).
''It is perhaps best to think of him as the Robin Hood of the South Hebron hills, an Israeli Jew helping poor locals who love him, and thwarting settlers and soldiers who view him with contempt….'' - New York Times, 2009
"I was attached to this community from the moment I came in contact with it, living like people in biblical times, working the land with the most primitive tools. And all of a sudden, they are in existential danger, prosecuted, having their fields burned, their wells poisoned, their elderly beaten and their land taken away from them. You can't just walk away." - Nawi, from a 2004 piece in the Guardian

Tammy is the heart of such a cynical (and brilliant) film.

I've been quite busy that I've missed this. Such a shame.
If I recall correctly, he said in a interview that he wanted to go to 70 up but if he died before that, someone he trusted would step in.
I do believe they will make 70 up to wrap up their stories and dedicate it to Michael.

I don't have an opinion on Phil Spector or his work, but considering his private 'record', it seems like all of us are still exhausted from the KKD dispute and don't want to get into all that quarrel again ..

[edit]HBO is a little above "just TV" I know, impressive main roles for something labeled as a TV release on IMDb: Phil Spector (2013)

Hammerin' Hank Aaron, 86. Baseball icon. I've never been a big sports fan or anything, but I've known his name since he broke the all-time home-run record when I was 8; he was probably the first pro athlete whose name ever impinged on my consciousness.

And don't forget - his home run total is no longer 755. He's now credited with 760, since the five he hit playing in the Negro leagues count, now that MLB has certified those stats.
