1. Get my plat back on the 500<400 list (2020 edition) (471/500)
2. Get gold on the 1000<400 list (2020 edition) (764/1000)
3. Get bronze on every official list (196/208)

Maybe I’ll actually do it next year... Maybe not.

I've got a list of 100ish films I'd like to see by about August - just personal priorities that all look really good, not a specific list or anything.

Other than that - as usual - just to broaden my horizons and knowledge of the art form.

I didn't manage to make my 2020 goals at all so I'm going to be less hard on myself this year.

1. Broaden my movie knowledge and book collection on movies.
2. Watch 300 features
3. Make improvements on the '1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die' & the 'TSPDT's 21st Century's Most Acclaimed Films' list and see whatever movie from this list is eligible for the official challenges.

I want to cut down on movie watching in 2021, so a movie every 2 days should suit me just fine.

Get under 100 unseen on TSZDT. Currently at 814/1000 815/1000.
Other than that I have a couple of less tangible goals related to a director or three.

My goal for 2021 is to watch at least 15 series (either mini or long), including at least 5 anime and at least 5 Asian dramas. I managed to watch 23 in 2020, so 15 shouldn't be too hard.

I kind of would like to finish the extended S&S list before they revote in 2022 but with 128 left to watch I'm not holding my breath.

- 1000 features for the year
- watch every unseen film on 20+ lists
- bronze on TSPDT
- get a fucking girlfriend already, even if it means cutting down on the films

I currently have **90 Platinum** Awards.
I want to get as many NEW Platinum awards as possible this year. I am not putting a number because some lists are not possible to complete (sucks). But I will complete every list that I can!

For 2021 goals...

1) Keep pushing towards the top 50 club, but that means more noirs and zombies movies to watch. (Supposed to be 85 Films away).
2) try to gain an award for every list. (Supposed to be 372 Films away).
3) keep organising and verifying my movie collection... (as I discovered some errors lately)
4) keep hosting some poll and try to be a part of the forum community

Your monthly updates on the 3+ , 2 and 1 official list lists has been invaluable to me this year :poshclap:

I'll be doing the same as every year, trying to:
see one new favorite every two weeks
revisit one old favorite every two weeks.

Though the latter is getting a little harder, as I'm finally starting to hit the older favorites that haven't aged that well. If I keep it up though, I should be rounding a Top 725 by the end of 2021.

I didn't really reach any goal in 2020, I was too dispersed, I guess... So I'm updating them for 2021.

1 - Reach gold on the They shoot zombies, don't they ? list (87 films to watch)

2 - get bronze on the <400 list : 77 movies to check.

3 - Get 2 bronze medals (Sundance Film Festival - Grand Jury Prize & Belgian Film Awards)

4 - Finish iCM Forum's Favourite French Films list : https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/icm+ ... htysparks/ (16 films to watch)

01. Reach 1000/1000 on Box Office Mojo's All Time Worldwide Box Office list (currently 817/1000)
I've been slowly working on this list for years, but now it's really time to finish it off as I'm still not expecting many new entries in 2021 because of the ongoing pandemic.

And I'm going to go through Hitchcock's output chronologically, or at least what's available in HD. A lot of rewatches, but I haven't seen his early work and some other random American films. He's also the director who got me into films even more seriously in 2007, so I'm curious to see how he holds up after all these years. Not my intention to finish that endeavor in 2021, though.

1. Clear some of my most-voted films on IMDb which 300k+ votes. There aren't too many left; some follow me for years and I'm growing sick of seeing them on top of the list!
2. Maybe do some canon work again, maybe not
3. Try and see films I just want to see and not for ICM, canon, project and list reasons

That is a neat idea/link. I have 6 of those and 46 with 100k votes.

Copying from the 2020 thread, my goals for 2021:

1. Achieve either a bronze OR platinum award (for the first time) on 25 different lists during the year
2. Maintain platinum on all current awards (7 at the moment)

My two biggest motivators are getting the initial bronze award (I have 80 currently) and completing lists. So my goal is to either reach bronze or complete 25 different official lists in 2021. I think it will be fun to jump around based on what interests me while still working towards these overall goals.

I've noticed a trend over the last few months where I've been watching a higher than normal percentage of English-language films. This is partly down to sharing a room with my brother and his dog and consequently having to rely on films recorded on television, but's it's also down to poor time management on my part. So, my first aim for 2021 is to utilise the time available to me in a better fashion.

Another project that I'd like to continue working through next year is my television recordings (https://www.imdb.com/list/ls096556783/), which are mostly English-language (either British or American). Balancing these films with films from other countries is what I hope to strive for in 2021.

Happy viewing in the New Year, everyone!

I managed to get a rank of at least #200 on every official list for 2020. I was debating back in the fall whether to continue with this goal, worried that I'd run out of (potentially) great films later in life if I did. But then I developed some vision problems in November and i worry that I may regret holding off on these unseen classics, so maybe I'll press on. By my count I'd need to check 58 to get to #175 ranking or better on each list, or 161 to get to #150. Since I'm also trying to ease up on watching so many films, the choice is clear, I'll shoot for #175, and won't beat myself up if I don't make it, as 2021 may be a tough year for me.

2021 is a bit of an unknown with how Covid will play out with vaccines and from a personal perspective an upcoming second child (fingers crossed) so hard to plan. I'll follow blocho's strategy for the most part.

I have enjoyed being more up to date with new releases from active directors that I follow so I'll have more of a focus on that and less on movie checks.

OK, first time posting goals on this forum. Let's see how good I'll be at keeping track of them. I know they do help me in keeping focus and motivation going, but usually I get about a quarter done and fill the rest of my time with other stuff that is just as interesting. That's why most of these goals are very doable and low bar, with hope of shooting far beyond.

a lot of my goals in terms of selecting movies do center around ICM, and this year I also want to participate more in challenges on this forum
January: 1000<400
February: Benelux
March: Female Directors
April: Doubling Nominations
and if I haven't tired of it by then, May: Japan

Countries:
Main focus: Germany
Other countries: Mexico, Philippines, Sweden, Canada, India and South-Korea
also US-independent cinema
at least 10 new countries to see movies from (154 at the moment, some big ones like Saudi-Arabia, North-Korea, Chad, Libya, Zimbabwe and Rwanda to go!)

Directors:
I've got a lot of names that I'd love to see in my top10 of most watched at the end of the year, with at least 4 or 5 movies, but these are the most likely to get there at the moment:
Bergman, Lav Diaz, Khavn, Garrel, Hong, Zeze, Sono and Gopalakrishnan

ICM goals:
Cien Anos: 17 for bronze
500<400: 40 for gold (on the current edition)
Doubling: 79 for silver (on the current edition)

Fespaco: 3 for bronze
Empire Russia: 4 for bronze
LoveHK: 7 for bronze
Magyar: 8 for bronze
TIFF Canada: 8 for bronze

Maltin 20th century: 3 for platinum
European Award: 3 for gold
Cannes Grand Prix: 4 for gold
BFI british: 4 for silver

I don't know if I really have film goals anymore. I'm going to live my life. I still want to be competitive, see great films and go up in the rankings, but I'm not going to obsess over it, and I hope something amazing is about to happen for me that would make film considerably less of a priority.

I'm going to set even more relaxed goals for myself in 2021. I've discovered I'm fine with letting Mubi and Netflix determine what I'm going to watch half the time.

General Goals
3750 feature-length films - 313 to go
2750 short-length films - 377 to go
6500 checks - 706 to go
3500 official checks - 355 to go

Outstanding Goals
<20 unseen films on ≥20 official lists - 27 to go
≥10 films from at least ≥50 countries - 6 countries to go
≥5 films from at least ≥75 countries - 17 countries to go
Be ranked below 10,000 on all official lists - 4 to go (icm Most Checked, TSZDT, imdb mini-series, Grindhouse)
Finish outstanding goals from 2015 (5 goals) & 2016 (1 goal)
Finish all four old watchlists (2013-2016) - 28 to go
Finish country-based old watchlists (2017-2018) - 49 to go
Finish outstanding Notable Directors goal - 9 to go

New Goals
Finish 75% of 208 official list-specific goals - 156 to go
Achieve Tin on all country/region goals - 19 to go
Hit 150 countries and territories seen - 41 to go

I thought of setting a goal to limit the number of American films I watch, but then I realized only about 20% of my watches were from the US, so it's something I'm already doing.
I'm at rank 604 right now, and I've gained about 100 ranks the past two years, but I think aiming for the Top 500 is a bit much (requiring 3391 official checks, which is less than my 3500 goal, but I imagine that number will rise above 3500 by the end of the year), and I've never really cared about my overall rank, instead focusing more on the individual list ranks. I must admit, though, since breaking into the Top 1000, I have been more interested in my overall rank.

I'd like to round up some numbers, like for instance reaching 4500 checks (I'm at 4194) or getting in the top2000 by official checks (I'm at #2161). A more immediate goal would be completing the One film by year challenge I have quite close to finishing in this forum (22 to go, 23 if I count 2021).

But my goals are more generic I think. I'd like to finish a few filmographies, which I tend to be very bad at, watch some overlong movies I never find time for and keep me from further exploring lists (Satantango, Shoah), watch a LOT more stuff from this year and clear a bit of my accumulated watchlist from the last few years (nothing wrong with classics, but I'd like to know what the fuss is about all these contemporary authors I haven't brought myself to explore). I'm also going to get more into anime, hopefully like my 2018 numbers or similar, since last year was a bit dry, specially in its second half.

I'm modifying my goals for this year:

My goals for 2021:
1. Complete S&S 2012 - 63 films to watch
2. Get gold on 1001 MYMSBYD - 87 films to watch
3. Regain lost platinums (so far only IMDb top 250) - 4 films to watch
4. Recomplete watching all films on 10+ official lists - 17 films to watch
5. Complete a list of 50 films from 50 genres, chosen by my friend and myself to watch and discuss during the year - 50 films to watch (plus 15 films to watch on the previous list first)

Regarding the S&S list, I have considered finishing the job with a bang by flying to Temenos, Greece, to watch the new cycles of Eniaios (XII, XIII and XIV), when the event is held next time - if it's really safe to travel again by then. I'm extremely interested about the film and about the event which is held every four years. The event was supposed to be held last summer already, and I was about to participate, but it was postponed because of Covid. (That said, I still think that Eniaios should not be eligible for voting as a complete film in S&S vote, BECAUSE IT IS NOT FINISHED. :down: )

EDIT: It seems that some of the films on the S&S list are very hard to find, but I'll watch as many as I can reasonably reach.

Eniaos has no business being on any official list. I also strongly believe every lost film should be removed and noted in the list's description instead. It's bogus to not be able to platinum the BFI animation list because some ass stuck El apostol on it. Films that aren't available online yet are very different because they may surface someday, but the truly lost stuff needs to go.

I'm back to the first three goals I mentioned earlier. The girlfriend thing does not appear to be happening anytime soon. Might be different if I didn't live in such a pathetic area, but what can ya do?

My only goal for this year is to average <250 checks and <5000 IMDb votes for the films I watch. Just wanna shift my focus slightly without restricting myself too much.

My film goals:

- To watch at least 250 films, but not too much more than that.
- That my median check by year is somewhere in the 90's decade.
- That films in English comprise less than half of my checks.
- To keep watching 1001BYD films till I reach 2/3 of the list checked (about 110 films to go)

Okay, here's the first monthly update on my progress, a very solid start (six out of twenty lists already complete!) to what seems like a fairly easy goal. Here's a breakdown of my progress, showing the number of checks needed at the beginning of the year and today, with completed lists in bold, backslides in red and gains in green:
The push for Top 175 on every official list
1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die: 7-->8
A.V. Club's The Best Movies of the 2010s: 1-->1
Amanda Award - Best Norwegian Film: 1-->0
Annecy Festival's 100 Films for a Century of Animation: 6-->6
BFI's 360 Classic Feature Films Project: 2-->0
Cahiers du Cinéma's 100 Films for an Ideal Cinematheque: 1-->1
Empire Russia's 100 Best Russian Films: Readers' Choice: 2-->1
FOK!'s Film Top 250: 1-->0
Harvard's Suggested Film Viewing: Narrative Films: 2-->0
Hürriyet's The 100 Best Movies of Turkish Cinema: 2-->1
IMDb's 1910s Top 50: 2-->0
IMDb's 1920s Top 50: 1-->1
IMDb's 1970s Top 50: 0-->1
IMDb's Animation Top 50: 1-->1
IMDb's Shorts Top 50: 0-->1
OFCS's Top 100 Animated Features of All Time: 1-->0
Reddit Top 250: 1-->1
Sight & Sound's The Greatest Films of All Time: 11-->8
Total Sci-Fi's The 100 Greatest Sci-Fi Movies: 1-->1
TSPDT's 1,000 Greatest Films: 14-->13

And the breakdown so far:

Goal: Top 175 on every official list
Films left at start of year: 57
Target pace to meet goal: 4.75 checks/month
Checks left last month: 57
Checks left currently: 45
Checks left at this point in 2020/2019/2018/2017/2016/2015: 64/58/67/92/84/64
Current pace: 12 checks/month
Top 175 goals completed this month: Amanda Award - Best Norwegian Film, BFI's 360 Classic Feature Films Project, FOK!'s Film Top 250, Harvard's Suggested Film Viewing: Narrative Films, IMDb's 1910s Top 50, and OFCS's Top 100 Animated Features of All Time
Lists that have (re)appeared this month: IMDb's 1970s Top 50, and IMDb's Shorts Top 50
Worst ranking this month: IMDb's Animation Top 50 (#217)
Best goal-related rank(s): OFCS's Top 100 Animated Features of All Time (#112)
Median ranking on all lists: #61 (TSZDT's The 1,000 Greatest Horror Films, BFI's 100 Documentary Films, and Time Out's The 100 Best Romantic Films) and #62 (A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese, and BBC's The 100 Greatest Films Directed by Women)
Overall Ranking: 17-->14
Usually there's a pretty big uptick in the checks I need because of end-of-year list updates, but nothing's really materialized yet, even the TSPDT improved my position by a check. And with at least seven shorts as part of the remainder (six from Annecy, one from the IMDb shorts list) I'm in great shape so far. It almost makes me wonder whether I should have gone for Top 150, but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew, especially in a year where I'm trying to cut back a bit.

How can TSZDT be one of my median-ranked lists?? Not to mention the BFI European horror list coming close to becoming a film goal list (ranked #155). I usually avoid working on horror lists, not because I don't like them but because I appreciate them so much and don't want to use them up, but still, I assumed I'd seen more horror than most, even here. Weird to think there are sixty people ahead of me - I may need to step up my game...
